Marugame Udon

Wonderful spot in Waikiki! I can absolutely tell why it is so popular. The prices are extremely reasonable and everything is hot and fresh. You go through the line and watch them make the udon noodles right in front of you, then you order your bowl. Once you get your bowl you can add on some tempura or gyoza then check out and add a drink if you’d like. Once you check out you can grab some sauce for your tempura as well as utensils and then a worker will find a seat for you. I loved the curry bowl, just the regular size was PLENTY for me!

My appointment called and said they were running late. I quickly pivoted and decided to eat lunch. I went to Marugame Udon in Waikiki at 11: 30 and there was no line for food. Can you imagine? There is usually a line out the door to the corner of the block. I picked out my food and quickly found a table inside the restaurant. Service is fast and efficient. The food was great. Definitely a good idea.

The most popular Udon place in Waikiki! You will always see a long line and sometimes across the street here. I’ve tried a couple times and I would say it worth the wait, even though it’s usually a long line but it’s moving fast to the your spot. The fresh made Udon noodles are perfectly cooked and all the tempura are hot, crispy and flavorful. Like I said “worth the wait”

No frills udon but amazing quality and flavours. The line is usually long in the evening; however, it’s usually not too crazy before lunch time. We went to there thrice before lunch time and we got a spot immediately. They do have some veg options but not a lot. Would absolutely come back again in the future.

We went to Marugame Udon 4 times during our trip, which is a lot since there were tons of other places we wanted to try. It’s just that good on top of being affordable! There’s always a long line up during dinner but the line moves decently fast. If you don’t want to wait in line, plan to go during lunch time when there are no lines or a very small line. We’ve been to the Japan location and now the Hawaii location and quality is consistent.

Honestly not a fan of udon until I tried their dish here. It’s so hyped and now I know why! People were waiting in line for half an hour or so. Thankfully, when we visited, the line went pretty quickly. Totally loved seeing how the udon noodles were made. Everything was so fast and efficient - from ordering the food, cleaning tables, and all that jazz. The udon noodles itself were cooked to perfection, the sauces and soup bases were so savory. The food portions were big! The price is so affordable, actually cheaper imo! A must try for sure when you’re in Oahu! I recommend Curry Nikutama with udon or rice and The Tan Tan soup.

The food was amazing, made with fresh ingredients, and couldn't ask for better menu selections. This place gets very busy, so know what to order before you get to the counter. I was hurried along and didn't completely understand the menu. Seating can be a pain, but it's worth the wait. I definitely will be coming back.

Great fresh food. One of the best Udon i’ve had in America. Its a food truck style service where you order your food at a line and then go find a table. Lines can get long so be sure to go there before rush hours (11:00-11:30am, 4:00pm). I particularly very much enjoyed their curry Nikutama with an added fire ball.

This place is awesome. Food is great and reasonably priced. Udon is made fresh right in front of you, and the tempura is also made fresh. Most importantly, they also have a vegetarian option, which tastes so yummy.

Don't be turned off by the line, it goes quick. Whenever I'm staying in the area I find myself here multiple times. Cost for 2 people including drinks was about $45, hard to beat in Waikiki. Do yourself a favor and make your way there!

Marukame Udon was some of the best noodles I’ve ever had in my life. It may have been even better than some of the noodles I had in Japan. I’m usually not a big broth guy and don’t drink too much broth. However, I drank every last bit of broth here. The line was down to the corner of the block and took maybe 30 minutes but it was well worth it. We’ll certainly be back next time we are in Oahu.

Amazing Udon, amazing tamago tempura!!!!!!!!! Love the udon and love the price, definitely worth the try in Honolulu! However, the spam musubi was super bad, shrimp tempura was alright, spam musubi was the worst I ate in Hawaii. Definitely need to try out their udon, add extra soft boil egg will make it day! Hopefully spam musubi gets better!

The line is worth the wait. Simple, tasty, and affordable food in Honolulu! On a Saturday night, the line wrapped around the block. It was a 20 min wait, which for Waikiki and no reservations was excellent. Everyone was concerned about seating, which was unfounded.
Watching the noodles being made was an assurance of good quality. Lots of soup choices-spicy, sweet beef, soft boiled egg, etc. Our group tried 3 different soups.
Tempura voices were over the top! Katsu chicken was amazingly moist and the crab tempura was done perfectly.
Curry BBQ sauce was amazing, but the tempura sauce was only “all right”. There are free glasses of water as well as different sodas and traditional lime/lemon drinks.
Seating rotated quickly as we found a booth as soon as we received our food. They have staff bussing the tables as diners finished. I highly recommend the Udon here, it’s worth the wait😎

I’ve been here many years ago and come back to this original udon shop. Quality and taste is all still there and affordable. Delicious, fresh udon, and solid grab for a meal. Tempura as a side with the noodles, is nice too.

I went to Marugame for the first time 6 years ago and I came back to see if it was as amazing as I remembered. I’m happy to say it was even better than I remembered. So good that I went twice! The beef udon is without a doubt the best and the shrimp tempura pairs perfectly with it. Don’t be intimidated by the line, it moves very quickly and no matter how long the line is, there is always a place to sit inside. The workers are friendly and everything is highly efficient!

Food was great! It was worth the wait for our first time - even if the lineups were long, it moves pretty quickly.

Tempuras are a must have!

My wife had beef Udon while I had the spicy red Tan Tan. Both were great. Insider tip: don't look like a rookie like I did with my white shirt and red spots all over it! 😂🤣😂 No matter how hard I tried it still happened. Highly recommend!

Phenomenal fast casual Japanese noodle bowls and tempura sides. Katsu was excellent, musubis were excellent, noodles were excellent, curry was excellent, tempura was great. The kitsune tofu bowl was delicious and sweet, so delicate. Probably the best value lunch in Waikiki.

We tried this place because we saw the long lines when we were passing one evening and we were not disappointed! We ordered take out at lunch time and it was 12 mins to pick up. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and my husband actually used the word phenomenal to describe his Curry Nikutama! We ordered the large options and they was generous. Price is on point and staff were friendly when we picked up. The street outside smells amazing! Take out packaging was solid with utensils provided. They kept the curry sauce separate from the rice and meat to avoid saturation which was appreciated. Highly recommended!
