A must on your Austin to do list. This historic tree was almost destroyed (details below) in 1989. If you’re a fan of history, beautiful outdoor walks, etc., take some time and visit this very historic, beloved place.

(From Website regarding condition of tree…)

In 1989, in an act of deliberate vandalism, the tree was poisoned with the powerful hardwood herbicide Velpar. Lab tests showed the quantity of herbicide used would have been sufficient to kill 100 trees.

Best local distillery in town. We had the pleasure of using their whisky and gin as ingredients in some of of our gelato flavors (we own a Gelato shop on Austin) and the results have always been outstanding.

Today I cleaned the park found lots of plastic and garbage around and under the tree. I thanked the blessed tree for the shade from the bright sun. Had a good day today praying and enjoying nature. Blessings

Definitely worth a stop by. It's amazing to see a tree so wild and natural. Really puts into perspective how much we have changed the landscape.

One of the things that makes Austin unique. I love that it's been protected. Read up on its history before you visit, so you can truly appreciate all its been through!

It is always in your heart if your a Texan or of Comanche lineage or both! It is a place of homage and respect in a somehow liberal growing town in this great state called Texas or Tejas

There isn't a lot here to review. The tree is impressive and the history interesting. Parking was a bit of a problem.
