Adopted not one, but 2 cats from here! You can tell the employees are really passionate about their work and truly care about animals. It's a small shelter compared to the ones in Columbus, but they do the best they can with what they've got.

The Hocking County Humane Society has done major improvements since I started volunteering my time. They had added an addition, painted and sanitized every kennel to be more suitable for the dogs. They have every animal checked by a vet before they are even adoptable. The lowest prices I have seen at any Humane Society.

I can also say that every staff I talked with have been super nice and knowledgable about the animal. A great place and friendly staff!

After losing my English Mastiff of almost 11 years, I needed another supportive companion by my side. I was nervous about moving on and getting a new dog... This was my first time going to a shelter and I was very pleased with the staff and condition of the facility. The family that runs it are extremely considerate, transparent, and personable. They aren’t pushy at all and allow you to take your time and visit/play with any of the pets. They truly want their animals to find the perfect home. Their application process is simple and the fees are affordable. I 100% would recommend!! I love my pit bull terrier I just adopted. He is playful and very well mannered. They helped moving on a little more easier :)

My husband and I traveled to the shelter in search of a new family member after losing our 16 year old rescue dog 2 months ago. The ladies at the shelter were absolutely wonderful, they gave us confidence with their knowledge and dedication to all the animals in their care. Thank you Hocking County Humane Society for giving us the opportunity to find our sweet Toby. Highly recommend this shelter to all!!!

I got a cat from this place a few days ago, and I would come back!
I figured I'd share details of my experience in case it could help another person in their search for a new family member.

The employees seemed to know the cats they had well, and were able to answer the questions I had so I could find a cat that fit my lifestyle best.

I didn't feel rushed when viewing all the cats at all, and despite coming in about an hour before their closing time, they were very welcoming and told us to take our time. They seemed busy but were friendly.

I'd say the only downside was the strong ammonia smell in there. It was almost overpowering and made it hard for me to think...
But it is a smaller place.

I also recommend double checking the papers for each cat in each room... we fell in love with 1 cat, just to find out afterwards that someone had already put a deposit on her and that she was set up to go to another family. I'm not sure how common of a situation this is here.

However, it worked out in the end because I found another cat that perfectly fit my household and work schedule. He has what seems to be a scab behind his ear but it should heal.

He was very nervous after bringing him home (which is very normal), and wasn't using any of the litter boxes... so I ended up calling to ask for advice on what to do.

Again, they were very friendly and helpful and let me know they typically use nonclumping litter.
Sure enough, I changed the litter and he ran right for the litterbox!! No problems since.

Overall this place was very friendly and helpful, and I appreciated the great customer service and advice. They even give you a picture of your new pet!

My cat is getting more and more comfortable everyday, and I am so happy I went here to find him.

Out camping and found a sweet lost dog on the roads. Found the Humane society and called (it was a Sunday) and they let us bring her over to find her owners. People that work there were awesome and put me at ease that they would take care of her.

I would like to give them a 5 but it's a very small location and works from contributions and county backing. Two lovely folks run the place and are as nice as they can be. I give this place a "4 for ATTA BOY TRYING" That's my only reason.
Nothing spectacular but the people running the place are trying.
I did find my "forever fur buddy" and I call her EZZA♡ and she is about a year old and considered a "short hair."
Her markings are out standing and her calm personality matches! I was so taken by her that she was the ONLY kitten I even looked at.
Although her adoption was only fifty dollars, I donated another twenty to help them out.
If you live in Hocking County and want to HELP this very small place, please consider checking them out and even giving a little donation.
The ☆Ol LADY and EZZA♡ thank you. BIG HUGS

Adopted a kitten who had a wound on his forehead, I expressed concern and they said it’s nothing to worry about. Looking at his vet records he was seen for a unilateral eye infection which I was not told about and was not being treated whatsoever. He has also been sneezing since the day we got him and is obviously sick. His eye infection has only gotten worse and the wound is not healing. Called and told them what was going on and asked if I could talk to the vet and they said no because it’s not their responsibility anymore. Have to drive an hour to take him to banfield. Only gave two stars because the lady who helped us out was very nice and sweet but I did not appreciate the care that was given to the cat and the misleading information given to me.

PLEASE READ BEFORE ADOPTING HERE!!!!!! I adopted a kitten here just the other day. At the time of adoption I had noticed something was wrong with his eye, I asked the people working if it was an eye infection to which I was immediately dismissed and told it was dust or scratch and nothing to worry about. They did administer some eye drops before I took him home as a “precaution.” The next day, I had noticed my kittens eye was not better, if not worse, unfortunately it was out of hours and I could not reach anyone on the phone. I called again first thing Sunday morning, this is where I was treated with such disrespect and meant to feel stupid for bringing up a concern. I had asked for suggestions on what to do since it was Sunday and the vet was closed. They told me, very rudely, that if I “really wanted to, then bring him in tomorrow.” I then was told “the phone isn’t working very well.” and was hung up on. That being said, I did not return to the Humane Society on Monday, instead I had an emergency vet appointment. From there, I was told he had a double eye infection (shocker), yeast in his ears, and potentially a parasite. This was labeled on his paperwork that he had a parasite but there was no treatment listed! (vet caught it thankfully) After receiving this news, the next day I had called Hocking to inform them of this information, to which i was treated by blatant rudeness and disrespect, including being called an idiot and told to shut up. I was also told that I should just “return the cat, because I am not doing the right thing and clearly do not know how to take care of the cat.” I strongly encourage you to not adopt from this establishment, not just because of the blatant unprofessionalism and ill-mannered employees, but because of the sheer disregard for animal well being and safety. These people obviously operate with no morality or empathy for the animals they “care” for, and are clearly just looking to make a quick buck. Please see other reviews that have experiences similar to mine - they have repeatedly falsified medical information to adopters.

Overall I am very upset with the experience I have had at this shelter. I recently adopted a cat and took him to the veterinarian who told me that he was not neutered. This came as a shock to me as the adoption papers showed the veterinarian who performed this “procedure” and what exactly was done. The shelter told me before hand that all of their animals are spayed/neutered and they ensure this. I called the shelter for better clarification and the employee was very rude and hung up on me after laughing with her coworker when I shared that there may have been a mistake regarding his neutering. I took my cat to two vets to verify that this procedure was not done correctly. I am very disappointed in the way this situation was handled by this shelter.
