Foundation Restaurant & Bar

Came in here for a couple drinks before a concert. This place has been open for around 9 years. It is a couple blocks from Golden 1 so a great place to stop and eat and drink before an event. We did not eat but had just a couple beers. Bartenders are super nice, Chris answered our endless questions about what he was making. Bar is fully stocked. Will be making this a stop whenever going to an event.

This was a great spot for a weeknight dinner! The food was absolutely delicious. Our server was super friendly and did a terrific job of keeping our rambunctious crew fed and watered all night long. We accidentally stayed past closing and nobody complained at all. Next time we're in town, I'll definitely be a repeat customer!

Excellent. This was a fantastic spot to land when waiting for a show at Golden 1. Come early or call ahead and make reservations though, lots of places get filled up and have a long wait otherwise. LOVED the old fashioned and the spicy green beans. Sports bar but upscale. Would come again!

The wife felt like having Italion for dinner and Foundation was right on the way home. We had a calamari appetizer which was most excellent! Fried calamari, onions, potato chips and green peppers! Makes my mouth salivate just describing the dish. My wife loved the chicken fettuccine and my New York steak was heavenly! We had no room for dessert... Highly recommend the Foundation Restaurant & Bar!

01/21/2023: We were going to the Sacramento Kings game, so we stopped here for a pre-game dinner. We had a reservation, but the hostess was confused and initially didn't see it. She blamed it on her hearing as her co-worker pointed it out in the schedule. We were seated in the dining area, on the other side of the bar area, so it was nice to be able to see the TV and the football games.

Our server greeted us right away and brought us waters. But it took her a while to return to take our orders. We waited about 20 minutes. She finally returned to take our order. But then we waited another 30 minutes to get our appetizers. Our entrees took a minute as well, so we were happy to be there 2.5 hours before tip-off.

We started with the Korean beef skewers and the spicy green beans. The beef was flavorful, and the accompanying slaw gave a good contrast to the rich meat. The green beans were super crunchy with a slight kick in the back end. These were two very good apps.

For our entrees, hubby had the Funai Classic Burger with American cheese, and I had the Short Rib salad. The burger had a nice sized patty cooked to a prefect medium. I love it when the patty is slightly bigger than the bun, which this was. It was very flavorful and topped with fresh lettuce, tomato, and onion... nicely done. The short rib salad was one of the best salad I've ever had! Lots of greens and the dressing was full of flavor. The short rib meat was abundant and rich tasting. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would go back for that awesome salad.

Though service was slow, our server was nice and attended to our needs. The restaurant is at a good location in downtown Sacramento with a parking garage in walking distance. I can't wait to go back and try more!

Our Server Ghena was very nice and quite attentive. Had a very nice dinner with friends, all meals were very tasty and reasonably priced. The wine & cocktails were also very nice & well priced. I had chosen Foundation over another restaurant due to the new “added service charge” many restaurants have been adding for kitchen staff. I would much prefer an adjustment to the meal charge rather than more hidden fees. We have had enough of that & will be continuing to frequent restaurants that just pay their staff reasonable wages, provide excellent service and quality food. We will determine the tip based on service & having had this job in the past, are typically generous.

This place has an awesome happy hour menu for food. I got their foundation burger and it was full sized and surprisingly thick! We also go mussels and they were great as well and usually, at least to us, mussels are hit or miss at other restaurants. My wife got the artichoke and she loved it but we both were kinda let down by the fish tacos. The mixed drinks were not bad either. Overall I will definitely be visiting foundation again.

Great place with good high quality food with a relaxed environment

I was by myself for a business trip and tried the Foundation for dinner. They serve dinner at the bar and I had great service. The food was really good. I will definitely return.

Our first time visit and I called them about parking situation, reservation is suggested or not etc. Cameron quickly picked up my phone and answered all my questions in friendly manner. We felt very welcomed.
Arrived, greeted nicely, and served much faster than we expected by Cameron. (It was Thurs around 1pm BTW.)
My ex-airforce son had a stroganoff; he got defeated. Generous portion and quality food. My husband had a classic burger, my daughter had a margarita flatbread, and I had a bam mi sandwich.
Based on my experience I should go back to Foundation restaurant for cocktails and dessert. Lemon drop and apple crisp were to die for. Goldilocks!!! They were no too sweet, j-u-s-t right!!! If you are super hungry, go for stroganoff!
We will sure go back and also already told bunch of friends to go Foundation.

Great place. The Old Fashioned is served on a wooden platter under glass woth smoke. The menu is focused and top notch. Salmon straks lobster in addition to chicken and pasta dishes.

Open for dining now COVID 19 compliant. They have excellent service and fantastic food. I will be going back.

The food at this establishment was really fantastic. If you're going there on a weekend, or when there's an event downtown, be sure to make a reservation. The photo is of the short rib stroganoff, New York steak, and the caramelized onion flatbread. All of them were really good.

Foundation is just a great place to go. The bartenders and waiters just make you feel so comfortable. We always enjoy ourselves... especially when Elias is the bartender. He is kind, professional and just an all around great guy. We've been coming here since the mid 90's when it was 4th Street Grill. Try this gem, you'll be happy you did!

First time here. Our waitress was super attentive. I had the Shrimp and Linguine with light garlic sauce. It was delish! Definitely coming back.

Lunch was delicious. Excellent service from the waiter! We will definitely be back on our next visit to Sacramento!

Delighted little bar with delicious food. Great service and friendly atmosphere. The tacos were well flavored and the salmon salad lightly seasoned, perfect for an afternoon lunch.

We had such a great experience this is our 1st time dining here and Rachel the waitress was just amazing the food was great and the drinks were out of this world we will definitely return with our friends again.

We had a great server and we got the grilled artichoke.
I'm super picky about the artichoke. It needed a little bit more seasoning and maybe cooked longer in the steam pot as intended? Otherwise, it was decent.
The apple crisp was delicious 😋! I would definitely order that again! So good!

I'm glad that I found this place. I was looking for a nice place at the right price around Crocker Art Museum. The drinks were fantastic and the food was delicious. I could see myself coming back with friends for lunch. The service was a perfect balance of making sure we had everything but letting us enjoy the atmosphere.
