This was such an INTERESTING PLACE to visit? Site of the Homestake Gold Mine where 41,000,000 ounces was mined in the past. But it is useful in today's world of research. Do you know the word "neutrino"? If not, then stopping here is a must. Our world is full of wonders and technology that exist and we are not aware of. What a great educational stop for a family with middle school and high school age kids.

If you like science, geology and mining history prepare to spend some time reading and watching all the exhibits.

Very interesting place! Free to visit and worth the visit.
About an hour to go through and I learned alot about past and new scientific research being conducted.

Great example of where the past meets the future. If you have seen all the wild Wild West tourism you can deal with at the moment this is your museum. Some of the information went over my head but I could follow along. If you love dark matter or mining you can spend an hour absorbing all of the history, present and future! They offer tours which I would be all about but we got there too late in day.

Great fireworks show, locals say it's the best in the area. That said we were excited.

They day prior there was a big even going on with vendors and such that was awesome!

Attended a "DeepTalk" Presentation at the Sanford Underground Research Facility. It was great! Next one is May 11th, starting at 5 pm. Worth listening to great information about the research projects going on at the lab.

Really cool place! Decided to take the tour. Took about 2 hours. Learned so much about Deadwood and the gold mines and what Sanford labs is doing as far as research work goes. Very interesting. Take the tour if you have time and want to see something completely different!

This place is a lesson in history! It is full of fabulous information. In the 1930's this was the largest gold mine in America. Over the years of operation many miners died from falling rocks. The founders wife did a great job with helping others by starting many donations and much more. Great tour also, I and my friends really enjoyed it.

We didn't go inside, it was after hours. The outside, however, did offer fantastic views and was very clean. It was amazing to see the mine

Fabulous place with the juxtaposition of mining history and the future with particle and nuclear physics research. Reviewing my photos from our visit 3 years ago prompted this review.

What an interesting free place to stop! If you're a science nerd, you'll love it. I also didn't realize they worked with Fermi lab in Illinois.

A quality set of exhibits and a good guided tour. Excellent facility with splendid overlook of the Homestake Gold mine's open pit which took twelve years to dog

Museum opened a little early for us as we were passing through Lead. The employees were so very accommodating, and so excited to help and share information about both the mine and the science experimentation happening there. Well worth a stop, the exhibits are amazing!

Very cool spot.
Amazing to learn the history of the mine, the geology, and the DUNE project. We sat in on some presentations back at FermiLab discussing the project so it was very cool to visit the other side of the project.

...and of course we had to hit a out first holes-in-one!

This is a fascinating place to learn about a mine that has produced 44,000,000 ounces of gold, so far! The experimental efforts that have happened here have changed the way we, as a society, think about complex physics and things on an atomic level. Really fun and really educational!
