This is the first year I've been here, and they always have friendly service and good flavors to choose from! I'm not looking forward to when they close for the season when it cools off too much. I'm hoping this place is open every year! I recommend trying one of the smoothies and one of their freshly cut fruit cups!

OMG it was so ono. I'm from Hawaii and we have the best flavors of shave ice with great combos. This place has the same flavors as we do in Hawaii and I highly recommend you try Tropical Sno. ❄🤙 I tried da pog 😎

This is the Best Place Ever! Great Shaved ice, smoothies, iced teas you can add any flavor to... And also the delicious fruit cups, you can get it with the works which is Chamoy, Chile powder, and sea salt! They offer stamp cards to earn free Shaved ice. They also have discounts for First Responders, and military. They are the finest dessert place around! And when it gets hot in the summer, this is the place to go to cool down! The employees are friendly, and always ready to serve the best products around!

The customer service is great. Flavors are delicious. The sizes are huge! This is an extra small!!! This flavor is summer breeze (peach, strawberry, and watermelon) soo yummy! 🍑🍓🍉 do not drive to Bahama Bucks. Stay local, very worth it!

Very good shaved ice / Hawaiian ice. I had a small Mai Tai. It was very good. The size was exceptional for the price. We got one for my husband and brought it home to put in the freezer. It actually did alright in the freezer. I was surprised. I thought it would freeze too hard to eat, but my husband was actually able to eat it. I can't wait to visit again. The employees are great... very polite and willing to answer questions.

I love the friendliness and the cleanliness of this establishment. The staff is always patient and helpful. The portions are always exceptional and I love the variety of flavors that are available. I enjoy my experience every time I go; this is the BEST snow cone place around this area.

I have been here multiple times this week! The staff is super friendly and the snow cones are yummy. They have a lot of different flavors and add ons. They have a punch card system and the 10th snow cone you buy is free. Definitely recommend!

This is the best place to get your snow cone. It seems that every time I go they have a good crowd but are quick in getting your order out correctly. I have a special ice order that they always prepare and never complain. They are really friendly. I will keep coming back for more.

I seriously love this place! The flavors are amazing. My husband was skeptical because he’s been going to Bahama bucks for so long, but when he tried tropical sno... he has converted! Also they make them REALLY BIG! So you def get your monies worth!

This place is such a unique little spot! The people are all very friendly and the snow cones are delicious and fun if you have kiddos mine always are so happy to see all the colors! I just tried the fruit cup with chile and chamoy and it was delicious!

I'm just saying, it's 10 am and I really want one but can't get one.
That is the ONLY thing I am bummed about, the hours.

Several of my friends had recommended a new place that had opened up in Portales that specialized in shaved ice. With the incredibly hot weather and the need for something sweet, it really didn't take much to convince me to give this place a try for myself.

This place can be a little tough to find. Luckily I could pull it up on Yelp and navigate to the location - it's on the other side of Pizza Hut by the railroad tracks. Kind of unexpected to have a little shack set up that sells shaved ice, but it works! The yellow shack and the flags that wave "Tropical Sno" are definitely "alerters" to let you know that you've reached your destination. Like most other places in Portales, Tropical Sno also has a to-go window where cars can pull up to the side of the shack and order/pick up their order without getting out of the car. I opted to get out so I could take pictures of everything.

Apparently Tropical Sno is a franchised dessert company where anybody can open up his or her own Tropical Sno location and start selling shaved ice. A pretty neat idea - I liked that everything inside the store seemed legit: from the syrups that were used to the color changing spoons, I was pretty sold. And the menu is pretty extensive for a shaved ice place.

-1st step is to pick a size (small is $2.95, medium is $3.50, and large is $3.95 - not including tax).
-2nd step is to pick a flavor: you can choose from popular concoctions that have been built up to taste like a specific item (i.e. root beer float, wedding cake) or build your own with 3 different flavors.
-3rd step is to choose any add-ons such as coconut cream, caramel, etc. (You can also make it Hawaiian style and add ice cream for an additional $1.00)

I was in the mood for something sweet that afternoon, so I ended up choosing the small Strawberry Shortcake ice (strawberry, birthday cake, and vanilla cream). The ice came in a Styrofoam cup with a plastic material to keep the ice from dripping on the table (or on you). Really enjoyed this sweet treat - I think having it Hawaiian style definitely would have made this even better, but the fact that it was just ice was still really good. I could taste all the various flavors, and it wasn't overwhelmingly or cloyingly sweet. For the price point, this was a very worth it treat. And the color changing spoons were a special touch!

They have cute wooden benches with pretty lights strung overhead as a seating area if you want to eat your dessert right then and there. The people who own this joint were super friendly. They also offer a buy 9 get 1 free stamp card, which is really cool. No minimum on credit cards, and I think they even accept Apple pay.

tl;dr - Would recommend this place to anybody who is looking for a refreshing dessert on a hot day in Portales and wanted to try something other than ice cream shakes. With all the various flavors and creation possibilities, you can revisit a zillion times and never be bored! I enjoyed the strawberry shortcake flavor, and if I ever get to try this place again, I'd want to try a more tart combination.

Absolutely love this place and look forward to summertime because of them! My work has ordered a handful of sno cones at one time and the workers are very quick about making them and super friendly.

Ices are delicious and a good size. Shakes are fantastic. The service was wonderful and very friendly. Definitely will go back again.

We love tropical sno in Portales! We’ve always been given great customer service and delicious sno cones, and the young man who works the drive thru window is the cherry on top!

Tropical sno is seriously the best they have great customer service all staff are very friendly and helpful if you guys have not tried any of their snow cones or smoothies or tea's you have to go try them they are amazing!!!!! Hands down best place in portales.
