The Milkshed

Stopped to quickly switch drivers and glad we did as we made a last second decision to head inside. Beautiful cafe, shop and farm market. Offers fresh beef, dairy, eggs and other similar products. They also carry a wide variety of coffee, smoothies and other cafe drinks and foods using milk from their dairy.

We got a 1/4 gallon of chocolate milk in a glass jar and asked for some cups to enjoy before heading back out on the road. Chocolate milk tasted wonderful and the employees were extremely friendly and helpful.

A really beautiful super clean coffee shop, lovely welcoming faces and excellent coffee. Ordered the New Mexico mocha, and it was just perfect. If you are passing by Portales and need a quick Java stop, this is the place.

First trip in and regret not coming sooner. Got the lavender Chai tea and first sip was heaven. Staff was super patient and friendly while new we decided what to get. They even offered suggestions. The sandwich was delicious too. Local honey and other products available, including meats and milk. I may be back for some steaks. Worth a stop by if you are in the area.

Took my 15 yea old son and 8 year old daughter the inside is beautiful. We loved our drinks. Peach smoothie, latte hot, and caramel macchiato. We are usually Starbucks people, but this place was awesome. The prices on the menu are a little high for me but I don’t usually mind splurging every now and then. Thanks for the great customer service! We will be coming back! They also have packaged meat if anyone is looking for meat.

Food and drinks are amazing! Staff is always super nice and helpful. Great selection of Dutch and New Mexico products, as well as coffee and tea products. Will stop by whenever I’m the area.

The cute, rustic Milkshed is the place for the best locally-sourced dairy, beef, and other products like honey, soap, teas, and ENMU gear. They also boast a variety of breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and drinks that are freshly made with local products and absolutely delicious. They are also very family-friendly with various seating options, kids' chairs and tables, family bathrooms, and outdoor dining options. And, yes, there are a few places to sit with a mocha or smoothie and get some work done while plugged-in as well! Order in, take out, or order on the app and pick up at the drive-through. Highly suggest!

The inside of The Milkshed was so cute! The staff was friendly and patient. My husband got a chocolate cream soda. It was different than what he expected but it was good! The sandwiches were delicious and fresh. I’m excited to go back!

Had the Dutchman sandwich. Made with ham, gouda, stone ground mustard, fresh egg on sour dough bread. Fresh and tasty. Sweet tea was delicious. Friendly staff.

We are huge coffee snobs and this place was SO YUMMY! I had the pumpkin spice latte and I slurped it down so fast, I should have ordered 4. My husband had a black coffee and he said it was delicious! We aren’t local, but this little family owned coffee shop made us feel like we were neighbors. 10/10 recommend! And will definitely be stopping back in whenever we are in the area!

Wonderful, family friendly place to grab a nice light bite, coffee or a fruit smoothie while perusing the displays for some unique local fair. Well done van der Ploegs!

We finally made it back in today and they have made some great updates to the customer area and menu options. Still great service, friendly staff, and delicious food and drinks!

I am in love with this place! I am becoming a regular customer hoping they start a rewards program soon with as often as I will be going there haha! I get the iced latte with extra agave and it is seriously the best iced coffee I have had! the taste of their coffee is so smooth, and just has the best flavor. The atmosphere is beautiful! 10/10 recommend.

I’ve been to coffee shops all around. I enjoy hunting for them! I lived in Atlanta for 3 years, and from my experience, this coffee shop is really good!! They use coffee roasted in Santa Fe, and it’s the only place around that serves their coffee. And they use milk from their locally owned dairy, processed with a perfect amount of cream, making it thick and rich. The shop itself has a nice New Mexico feel to a modern coffee shop, and I haven’t found anything like it! I give it a 10/10, from the prices, to the quality, to the overall vibe and hospitality. I’ll definitely be back!

We were just passing through Portales & decided to stop on a whim. Based on the rest of what we saw of Portales, we didn't have high hopes for The Milkshed. Were we ever surprised!

The bathrooms were clean & spacious, the milk with a nice fat cream line looked delicious, the meats were appealing...but we couldn't get any since we still had a long drive ahead of us, the goodies & decorations for purchase looked good, and my vanilla frapp (with agave--recommended by the barista) was delicious.

This was our first time traveling through Portales, and we don't expect to be traveling this way again anytime soon. However, if we do, we will definitely stop here again! Oh, and they had gluten-free caramel stroopwafels, too!!

Nice coffee shop and local food seller (eggs, meat, dairy). They also have an assortment of gifts and most importantly Dutch food items that you'd think you won't be able to find. Coffee is on the pricier side of what's in town BUT it's never been burnt and orders haven't been messed up. And it's still about the same/cheaper than Starbucks.

Went this past Saturday to support my friend who is working there. Holy cow I had the best Iced Matcha Latte ever!!! Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and now I have a place to buy soup bones!!!

Hands down the best coffee shop in Portales and Clovis NM!!!!

Such yummy coffee & teas! The one sandwich that I've had was very good also. And the fresh cream on top milk, quality meats, fresh yogurt & eggs is icing on the cake!!

Visiting from Portland, OR and stopped in. Can honestly say that the NM Dust Storm was one of the best drinks I’ve ever had. And THANK YOU so much for carrying decaf earl grey. I never get to have a London Fog with earl grey because I can’t have caffeine. Made my day.
