Selby Library

Architecturally it is a stunning beautiful building, both inside and out. Very clean, large selections, and all the amenities you’d expect to find in a large library. The parking there, which is extensive, is only for 2 hours.

This library is fantastic! They were very welcoming to a group of 14 children and accommodated them during meal time. They even offer free lunch for children <19. There was educational worksheets/ computer software available as well as puzzles and board games. The inclosed youth area had plenty of space for them to spread out to read in a quiet space or enjoy activities. We were lucky to enjoy the kickoff event in their auditorium with live DJ and photo booth. It was an enjoyable time for all.

I always look forward to visiting the Selby Public Library to see what treasures I can find in the Friends of the Library used book store. My five-year-old enjoys the books and computers in the children's section. And the ocean-inspired architecture of the building, both inside and outside, is worth a visit on its own.

Is a very entertaining library, my kid loved the fish tank, kind staff, and a very professional service. Too many amazing books in the kids area. We really enjoyed it during our visit.

This latest event at Selby featured Steinway Artist Gayle Martin. She is the sole American laureate of the Sixth International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow. She often performs at Alice Tully Hall in NYC and around the world.

The highlight of this recital was Prelude, Choral et Fugue 21 by Caesar Franck. She is an incredibly talented pianist.

There are free events at Selby’s Geldbart Auditorium several times a month. Call ahead to register as seats are limited.

Highly recommended.

In the local non-profit community the Sarasota Library is all the rage. People are constantly discussing the cool things they're doing. Keep up the great work!

Beautifully decorated. Fish talk needs to be cleaned. Honestly, I don't believe in having any animals for decorations.

I always try to visit the local library of any city where I travel. This was was exceptionally clean, had more resources than most I've visited. It even had an aquarium within it which is something I've never seen. Make use of your public library!

Egyptian Revival is one of my favorite styles and so seldom seen. This is the best I've found.

Fantastic place to go relax and read a paper or a book open your laptop see the beautiful fish in the aquarium like fish tank!

This is a great library in downtown Sarasota and has a beautiful inside with a historical background. Great place to go to for many things and especially a wonderful place to take the kids to!

Just moved to the area and applied for a library card. Was a super easy process. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Can’t speak to parking as we walked in from downtown, but it is very easy to locate and access. Clean, well lit, and comfortable. They have lots of great programming too—from lectures to book clubs to tons of children/family events. A great addition to an already wonderful city

Fun to visit, see the arch fish tank, read magazines and work on a jigsaw puzzle.

Amazing interior. Well maintained, clean and neat. They offer a teen center and discount book store inside the actual library. They offer events and fundraising opportunities to the public to enjoy the arts and explore what they have available. They have an archway maintained by the Mote Aquarium with fish big and small, truly an amazing sight. The range of available books is amazing! You could probably find just about anything you needed inside. Will definitely be on the lookout for any upcoming events as well as a chance to visit that discount book store! I added a photo of my favorite fish, there were many others this one just happed to look my way!

We were visiting from out of town and discovered the library was hosting a Jazz Jam Session. This library clearly serves the community beyond lending books. Thanks to all the musicians, especially the floutist who was also the 'MC'. What a treat!

Top notch community resource. I visit at least once per week. Friendly staff.

Our kids love Selby library, the fish tank has great information at the different fish inside. The kids center has a puppet play area and the computers are great for speech therapy. The staff are very friendly and encourage the kids to learn through play. We'll be back!!
