If you're into boats and shops of all kinds, this museum is for you! With 3 floors of model ships and tons of info about them, you'll learn while you marvel at the craftsmanship of both the real ships and the model makers.
And while the history of the boats and the artifacts that the museum holds are great, the house and gardens are also a relic of history as well.
This is a must do on the museum circuit in Savannah. And it'll only take you 1-2 hours to see it all.

My husband and I visited from Dallas,Tx while seeing a friend in Savannah. We were looking for unique experiences while in the area! We couldn’t pass up a maritime museum. There are public restrooms in the garden area before entry! I could have stayed there all day. The garden is so quiet and quaint. At first I didn’t understand the entry price of $15/pp but considering the gardens on the property it makes sense. I enjoyed the view of the bridge from the rooftop stairs over the gardens! So breathe taking in the middle of the city! Savannah does an amazing job of continuing to ensure the city is beautiful not just historic! The museum has so much to offer, art, antique items from maritime periods, the ship models, historic videos and curators on site. They were both friendly and informative. No drinks or snacks are allowed in the museum. I was pleased to see affordable items in the gift shop, although nothing caught my eye.

Ships Of the Sea Maritime Museum is a must see for anyone who enjoys ships and history. Housed in the lovely Greek Revival Scarbrough home designed in 1819 by an English architect, it has a wonderful collection of models and paintings, as well as other maritime artifacts. One may browse the museum at their leisure and enjoy some short movie clips too. The ship models are extremely detailed and built to scale. Be sure to pick up a mini flashlight upon entering to get a good look at all the intricate details on the models.

Maritime museum. This place was also one of the first places in savannah that allowed black children to attend school. The home is really pretty but unknown if it was like that in the 1800s because no records exist showing the layout of the home. Allot of ship models and sailor artifacts. Great place to visit if you have the time..

This place has some of the largest, most detailed, and historically accurate ship models I have ever seen in my life. The house is beautiful, and dates back to the early days of American history. Amazing experience. It made the perfect rainy day activity in our last trip down to Savannah. The staff was very helpful, informative, and most importantly friendly. Cheap ticket prices, and the tour is self guided with no time limit. Definitely recommend, as we will be going back with the fam for sure.

Wonderful museum! I believe it spanned 3-4 floors of replica ships and many other pieces of maritime history. The staff was wonderful too, Don was very helpful and informative about what to expect at the museum.
Highly recommend a visit to this museum.

**Wedding Venue Review**
~Museum is also great btw~

My wife and I got married at Ships of the Sea last month, and it was the best day of our lives. This beautiful venue will forever hold a special significance to us. We are very grateful for SoTS and its employees.

✅ Gorgeous outdoor setting for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception
✅ Sloan, Brian, & Co. are very friendly, as are the rest of the staff
✅ Prices went up since we put down the deposit years ago; Sloan & Co. worked with us to get the right package/service
⚠ Alcohol packages aren’t super clear online; just reach out to Sloan directly to clarify
⚠ Venue is DIY; amazing blank canvas for those that want that, friendly warning for those that don’t
🚩 No red flags! Enjoy!

I only went because my husband and son wanted to go, and wound up really enjoying it. It was fascinating seeing all the different maritime models, and the history of the home itself is worth the trip.

With good fortune we found this amazing museum and got to stay there couple of hours due to bad weather. It was well spent, each ship replica was created with so much care and meticulousness, we took a trip back in time with the detailed maritime adventures. Not only ships, navigation gears used by crews, amazing whale handcrafts by sailors took my breath away.

Beautiful little museum with great models, paintings, artifacts, and even a ship in a bottle display! I love maritime museums and this one was perfect. We were there a little over an hour before they closed on a Saturday, and there was only one other couple inside. We made it through the museum in around 45 minutes since we didn't have to wait to check anything out!

Loved this place. Went with the Girl Scouts, so we paid extra for the guided tour, which was very informative. Learned a LOT about Savannah’s watercraft. Our guide was very knowledgeable. We did a program called Rogues and Rouge, about female pirates. While the more vie and guide were informational, I felt it was aimed more at girls younger than ours. There was a craft afterwards, which was stringing beads on a necklace. Fun, but again, aimed at girls a little younger than our Older Girls. I think this would be appropriate for a Junior troop, but but our girls thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour and all of the models.

This museum is a treasure. First floor is dedicated to the history of Savannah through its marine milestones, and the second floor is showcasing some major events of the US history through the prism of sailing. We really enjoyed how precise and nicely done the models are. The museum staff is very welcoming. Nice gift shop. The adjacent garden is just marvelous.

This a nice self-guided museum that is not super large and can be explored in an hour or two. Overall good history and really detailed ship dioramas. In addition, nice exhibits and history shown during Black History Month if you visit in February.

Very elegant and organized space to work in as a vendor. DO bring your three step stair dolly, lots of little steps vs. heavy vendor equipment. Don't bring your cigarettes or vapes, very frowned upon. Wedding party was high functioning, top shelf thirsty, low maintenance, thank you!

Wonderful little place to visit. Lots of maritime history for Savanna. The gentleman at front popped with us often to give us more history and insight than was printed on the placards. Plan on spending a couple of hours there.

We learned so much about the local maritime history. Small museum with many rooms and lots of reading. We spent 2 hours there and glad we did!

My 15 year old son chose this museum to visit and he couldn’t have loved it more! We were able to take our time as we admired everything on the first and second floors. Lots of pictures and a wonderful memory. The gentleman in the gift shop where you enter and exit was very pleasant and welcoming.
