My son and I walked around and took our time here. It's a nice cemetery with loads of history. I pointed out Button Gwinnett who was one of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence. We went during the week during the off season so it wasn't very busy. I also took my parents and other family members here recently when they came to visit. I told them to make sure to look for the tomb stones in the walls. There are different kinds of tours, ghost tours of this place is the most popular.

Serene park and historic cemetery, central to Savannah's historic district. Closed to interments since 1853, so the graves / markers are all quite old. Fascinated by the longer epitaphs on grave stones that are large flat (horizontal) markers.

Nicely maintained by the city's cemetery staff. Even subtle little cans for depositing dog waste. Keeps the grassy areas free for walking.

Cool, historic cemetery with influential people, dating back to the 1700's. Some of the people who shaped Savanah into a great town are buried here.

Very cool historic cemetery, with live oaks, Spanish moss, and crepe myrtles, it’s a serene place to enjoy a walk. All graves are older than 1896, many have become illegible with weathering, but I found several dating back to the late 1700s.

Super pretty! It’s nice how small it is too! I recommend going to the back to see the graves stacked on the wall, super neat vibes.

Definitely an interesting part of history! We thought it was neat to walk around and see the cemetery. It is for people who served in the American Revolutionary War. Due to the age, there are some stones that are hard to read or not able to read at all. The city has done a good job of posting signs for a lot of people who served.

Colonial Park Cemetery is a Nice place to take a walk during the day in the middle of Savannah. Many of the signs in the cemetery will help inform you on historical Savannah figures that are buried there. The surrounding sidewalks used to be part of the cemetery as well.

Very interesting cemetery to visit. There are historical marker signs that allow a very informative self guided tour. Many interesting and notable figures buried here. A section in the back of the cemetery is lined with marker that couldn't be replaced after the cemetery was used for a camp by Union soldiers. Unfortunate how many Graves will never be marked properly.

Lots of history here. I don't do cemeteries though. Got dragged into this one I got out asap. Very very historical site if this is what you're into tho. Worth a visit for sure.

Visited as part of a ghost tour, well kept colonial cemetery with it's own set of quirky stories and foibles. Ostensibly haunted, of course, though we didn't see much evidence. Colorful stories about Union Soldiers changing the ages on gravestones with their bayonets, etc. Worth a quick stop.

Open for exploring in the daytime! Historic, from the Revolutionary War to the Great Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1820. Button Gwinnett, Georgian signer of our Declaration of Independence, is buried here with a lovely monument. Centuries of erosion have aged the cemetery. Partially legible gravestones are present from people born in the 1700s. Many important political and military figures are buried here with nice plaques, as well as founders of Savannah.

Another of the stop in the ghost tour of the district. This cemetery is also ripe with ghost sightings. Surrounded by grill walls, it hosts old graves, which are said to have mismatched tombstones (due to a chapter in history).

It provides a clam stroll while you can absorb the long history of people lying under the graves and crypts.

You never know what you’re going to catch on camera in the dark at Colonial Park Cemetery. In the 30 or so times I’ve visited it I’ve gotten lucky a few times to come across some of the dead. There’s a great history here though. Despite not being the city’s first cemetery, they have not buried a body here since the 1850’s. Most of the bodies buried there, and outside it’s perimeter, are not marked. Happy ghost hunting!

The history behind this place is just phenomenal. It's on several of the ghost tours and it is worth taking a tour and going to see in the day time as well. There is no one to give you any information as you go in the gates so it's worth knowing a little about it and doing a little research before going there and if you take a ghost tour it will also tell you a lot of the history behind this cemetery as well.

It always amazing to learn about the history of Savannah. They have ghost tours in that you can sigh up to get more historic knowledge. Photos taken 9-13-2019.

Very beautiful and very old cemetery to visit. Well worth the visit and walk around the park. A lot of history there and dates back to late seventeen hundreds.

I went to the cemetery for two reasons. One is that I love old cemeteries. Two is that I have an ancestor buried there.
I spent hours looking around. It's a very peaceful place.

A must visit. They do a good job on taking care of this old cemetery. AND please, people, teach you kids to have some respect.
