Absolutely incredible coaching staff! Kids BJJ program is fantastic - they do a really good job of balancing the discipline needed to teach these moves safely while still having a lot of fun.

I've also really loved the adult program. Even if you have zero experience in the sport, they do a great job breaking things down and teaching fundamentals. For more experienced people, the coaches will help fine tune your game so it's the best it can be. Clean facilities and great place to train!

This Jiu Jitsu gym is amazing!!! Their professors are so good and very knowledgeable. They are always paying attention to what’s happening on the mats. If you’re new to Jiu Jitsu , you’re going to love it there! If you’re not new, you’re also going to love it there, getting in some great rolls with good people. Checkmat!!!

I’ve had had my 9 year old son training at Checkmat Mt Juliet for over a year now, and we couldn’t be happier.

We were looking for an extracurricular activity for our son and it’s like jiujitsu found him! He and his brother are at Checkmat Mt Juliet and has totally boosted their confidence! I started doing kickboxing about 4 years ago after a friend invited me to try it out. I fell in love with it and it was a great way to reduce stress. After my coach left the gym I still tried to do a little on my own with little results. I found Checkmat last year when I was looking online for a kickboxing gym, once they opened in Mt Juliet which is only half a mile from house I had no reason not to go.
Coach Caleb has been amazing at showing the correct form for all the punches and kicks and he has great patience with new comers; Coach Sebastian is awesome as well helping you learn correct forms. I love the fact that we get to do light sparing so we can see how things would go with another person and not just a punching bag. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to try kickboxing check them out; no matter the age, current fitness level, or skill.

Checkmat MtJ is awesome and so welcoming. Being a female can be a bit intimidating when trying something new like jiu jutsu but everyone there coaches and students have been respectful and kind. I'm so thankful I found this gym with so many more females as students. Great community for all and kidd as well. Definitely a must try

Mt. Juliet is fortunate that this gym expanded to their city. Very well run gym with extraordinary instructors. Their training program is elite compared to other gyms in Mid-Tennessee. Their constant success in tournaments is proof of this. They welcome every student at any level and embrace helping each other. Egos are always checked at the door here. I suggest anyone interested in this gym definitely stop by and check it out.

Checkmat is a great gym to choose for Jiu Jitsu, both coaches are very experienced and easy to work with.

If you are in the Hermitage/Mt. Juliet area and are interested in taking up jiu-jitsu and/or kickboxing no matter your experience or starting level of fitness, look no further than Checkmat MJ. The level of instruction is second to none, with the likes of Coach Caleb who is always calm, clearly spoken, and calculated, to UFC veteran Sam Alvey, who offers advice that you truly cannot get anywhere else. Everyone from the staff to the students are more than happy to help you in any way possible, and they genuinely make it feel like a family. I cannot recommend this gym enough. Give it a shot! This gym is awesome and so glad we have it in Mt Juliet. The coaches are so nice and professional. The jiu jitsu program is great and I've learned a lot under coach McKey and Coach Sam. I really appreciate the quality of training that is in our city and encourage all to try it out.

It has been an absolute blast training at Checkmat BJJ Mt. Juliet. if youvare looking for a place to kickbox, this is definitely the place. Training technique and then getting to put it into perspective when we get to light spar. That is my favorite part! I have trained at several gyms, but no one ever allowed the sparing. I am so happy that I found this place thanks to very dear friends.

My 13 and 15 year old started the end of last year. It's been such a positive addition to their lives. A great program and skill. The team is outstanding and so good with the kids. Best decision we could have made!

For such a challenging and demanding craft, Checkmat BJJ has made it incredibly easy to begin the journey. As someone who has no previous experience in martial arts or self defense it can be a daunting task to start in; especially at the age of 34. Right out the gate the coaches and instructors have been welcoming and supportive while maintaining professionalism and firmness insuring the safety and progression of all. As a tradesmen with almost two decades of experience joining this gym has provided me with a new challenge that constantly pushes me to better my mental and physical capacities.
