Island House Hotel

My stay at the Island House Hotel on Mackinac Island was an absolute delight! From the moment I arrived, I was enchanted by the island's timeless beauty and the hotel's unique charm.

One of the highlights of my stay was the wide range of activities offered at the island and the central location of the hotel. Whether you're into biking, hiking, or simply strolling around the island's streets, this hotel has perfect locatioon and view to the bay.

And here's the best part: We find out that the Island House Hotel is part of a Mackinac Island ghost tour! While drinking our wine on the veranda, we kept noticing a group of people beeing infornt of the hotel every night. Now, I can't confirm the ghostly presence, but I can assure you that the warm and welcoming staff make you feel right at home.

The hotel itself exudes old-world charm with its classic architecture and cozy rooms. Waking up to the sound of horse-drawn carriages passing by and the breathtaking views of Lake Huron from the front porch was a truly magical experience.

I must also mention the incredible dining experience at the hotel's restaurant, which is undoubtedly one of the top restaurnatson the island. The service I received there was the best I ever received at a resturant.

If you are reading this review stop your search and BOOK this hotel. You will not regred it.

Rooms weren't too fancy but had everything we needed with extra towels and a mini fridge. There are also air conditioning units and a bell hop can bring your luggage to the ferry at the end of your stay. The front desk is attended 24/7 so there is always help if you need it. The hotel is right off the main strip so it's easy to go to restaurants and shops on foot but not in all the craziness of downtown. The porch is a great spot to sit and relax and there are fires lit every night outside!

This was a lovely place to stay on our first trip to Mackinac Island! The hotel is located on Main Street, right across from the shoreline of Lake Michigan, just a few blocks from downtown. Very convenient for strolling and visiting shops. They offered bicycle rentals, and we were able to ride the 8.2 mile perimeter of the entire island, great short afternoon activity as it is relatively flat with beautiful the entire way!
We traveled with Road Scholar Tours, who arranged all details. The meals at the Island House restaurant, 1852 Grill, were superb! We had breakfasts (real eggs!), two dinners where everything was perfectly prepared and served, and live music with a very talented pianist. Truly an elegant dining experience.
There was a pool and hot tub, 2nd casual outdoor restaurant, The Ice House, and lawn game area in the back lawn of the hotel.
The rooms were not really luxurious, but very comfortable. This is an historic hotel, so they were in keeping with the design of the building.
We absolutely loved our three days and nights here!

Absolutely Lovely hotel. I will say we paid more to stay here than the Grand hotel - it’s very pricey. However, the room was spotless, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and it was in a perfect location. I would definitely come back if I visit again, so I’d recommend it! The restaurant inside is also very yummy and I would recommend, no dress code required.

Room was comfortable, the bell man is very attentive as well as the front desk girls. The grill view and table setting is stunning. They have a covered pool and a jacuzzi next to it but they also have a patio and garden used as another restaurant and bar behind the hotel where trees gives great view and nice shadow. There’s a jacuzzi for adults only outdoors which we loved and overall the experience was more than beautiful and just like we expected. We are so happy to be here and we are coming back with the whole family

Five star birthday dinner last night at the 1852 Grill Room!! Thank you so much to Heather, Andrea, and Jeffrey for going the extra mile in assuring the most perfect night ever. The mussels were a wonderful recommendation... the whitefish plank completely cooked to perfection... peanut butter pie to die for. What a special night! I'm so happy I chose Island House and 1852 Grill Room for my big day. Everything was absolutely amazing - as it always is. Island House is a very special place on Mackinac. Can't wait to return once again!!

I took my wife to Island house for our 1st anniversary. I have been coming to Mackinac Island for over 30 years and this was my first stay here. What an amazing place. The history speaks for itself. The care that is taken of the hotel is amazing. So many caring people. We have now decided that the Island House will be our anniversary tradition.

I cannot say enough about the Island House Hotel. The view from this property is unparalleled on Mackinac Island, and after a handful of visits, it remains my first choice when visiting the island. We were repeatedly met with courteous staff from the bell hops to the owners themselves greeting us upon arrival. Our room was clean, recently updated, and of exceptional value. Be sure to take a moment to rock on the porch when arriving - just a few moments here help leave the bustle of life behind. Multiple dining options, pool, hot tubs for both family and adults, bike rental on property. Remarkably easy for such a remote and beautiful setting.

We had a great experience at this hotel! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We got the king room with water views and loved it. The hotel is also in prime location because it’s close enough to everything but not in the heart of downtown area. Also really loved it had amenities like hot tub, restaurants, and bike rental - which we rented daily.

We stayed here on our honeymoon 8/29 and 8/30 in 1966. Our Room # was 204. We paid $16.64. I have kept the bill all these years as it was such a great memory for us. We took our 3 boys back 15 yrs later and paid around $250 for a small dormer room(don't have that bill). My husband died 4/6/2022 and I am still heart broken, yet things like this bring such happy memories.

Thank you for helping to start our marriage out magicially and continued for 56 yrs.

The Island House was beautiful, charming, and just like Mary Poppins! Practically perfect in every way! We loved every minute of our stay! We had such a great time that we even stayed an extra day! We were so grateful to have our stay extended. Everyone was extremely friendly from the front desk to the cleaning staff. Even chatting with me in the hallway asking how everything was going. We had our one year old daughter with us and everyone was so nice to her as well and accommodating. The room we stayed in was very clean, and the best part was the separation between the bedroom and the sitting area. That worked out perfectly when it was bedtime for our daughter. We will absolutely be returning to stay, and telling everyone traveling to Mackinac to stay there as well!

The Island House Hotel was the perfect location for our fist visit to the Island. It's classically charming and conveniently located. It was easy to pop back to the room to drop off jackets after the day warmed up or to drop off packages after shopping. The folks were friendly and accommodating with our luggage and ferry arrangements. We used their bike rental service to enjoy the whole island.

We booked 2 nights. First night, we got the 2 room suite and it was spacious and beautiful! The second night, we got a 2 bed room and it was very comfortable. Good walking distance to town. Nice hotel!

If you’re looking for a nice clean room, within walking distance to town, with a great view of the harbor, with chairs on the lawn, with bike rentals out front, and with a fabulous restaurant, this is the place.
If you’re looking for something quiet, don’t go in May. We’ve been here 2 nights so far of a 5 night stay, and the large number of kids running the halls and yelling has made our otherwise romantic stay less than enjoyable. At 9:45pm last night we had to step into the hall and ask the kids to please stop running and yelling. This evening appears to be a repeat of yesterday. The loud noise levels and constant running literally goes on for hours, with no attempt from parents or anyone else to quiet them or be respectful of other guests.
Kids will be kids. I get it. This is the time of year the kids are on field trips, but it is beyond ridiculous.
If we ever come back to Mackinac Island, we would come to Island House again, but it definitely won’t be in May.

Update: Peter was very responsive and helpful. We never heard a peep afterwards. Excellent customer service.

Great food. Great service. We haven't stayed there, but webs eaten in the dining room several times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Highly recommend.

So the bike guy Casey...2nd year in a row.. just an awesome guy! Awesome enough that we will stay at the hotel next time. Casey is a brand ambassador and it's hard to find people this friendly and kind in the world. I hope his coworkers and management see this and give him that recognition that service shines through even before you get to the front desk! Dave and Di from Northville.

Island House was the perfect location for beautiful views and experiencing a little bit of history! It was easy for us to walk into town for shopping and eating. We loved the rockers on the front porch for people and horse watching! The staff was amazing with information and making sure our luggage got back to the pier on time. I only wish we lived closer to return often.

This hotel has been on my Mackinac bucket list and I was so happy that we finally got to stay! The location is amazing and the amenities (the pool, the fires in the chimneas at night, etc) complete the experience! The only downside we had was that our room didn't have a mini fridge, but my parents (who had the same room package) did. Luckily we just used their fridge! Either way, we really enjoyed staying here and I would absolutely stay here again!

A beautifully decorated and well kept hotel! One of the oldest hotels on the island. The 1852 Grill Room restaurant attached to the hotel had the best filet my husband has ever had. The pool and hot tub were wonderful! Sitting on the lawn in front of the fire with a cigar looking over the lake was very relaxing at the end of the day!!
