Today, I found this small, community cemetery in search of my 3rd great grandfather and his sister. I was pleased to discover a very well maintained cemetery that’s easily accessible via a single-lane, lawn entrance under a canopy of walnut trees. (Parking is limited to street side in front of a neighboring home. The gravestones are visible from the street.)

The cemetery itself sits high above the Bullskin Creek and another side creek, a beautiful site with gorgeous views over the water.

Someone repaired my ancestor’s headstone, a kindness I didn’t expect. In fact, we expected the place to be overrun with plant growth. Whoever maintains Rural Cemetery deserves our sincere gratitude. It’s a lovely place to visit.

Augusta is a home rule-class city in Bracken County, Kentucky, in the United States. It is located upon the southern bank of the Ohio River. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 1,096. When Bracken County was organized in 1796, Augusta was the county seat. In 1839, a new county courthouse was built at a more central location in Brooksville. The city was formally incorporated by the state assembly in 1850. source
