Parked my car for 30 min and got out of there in 10 minutes... on Friday night after work... Just the fact that this place is open till 8pm deserves better rating. Service was super fast and I didn’t have any issues with anyone over there. The building itself is really beautiful, historical and huge.

The post office is rarely busy. The architecture alone is worth a visit. Marble and granite accents adorn the walls and floors. Most of the action is hidden from view. But not the beauty of this historic structure.

Today I went to the Main Post Office on 1720 Market Street. I was not certain where to park, and after passing the Post Office west-bound on Market Street I turned left at the light on 18th Street on and pulled into a parking lot at the side of the building next to a space marked “reserved for the postmaster”. Two men were getting into their car so I asked if I could park in that lot in order to mail a package - they warned me might get “ticketed by the postal police”. I saw a postal vehicle parked on 18th Street with his lights on and queried where can I park to mail a package. I couldn’t hear or understand his reply, so he said “let me turn around and follow me”. I followed his vehicle from 18th street making a right turn eastbound onto Market Street where he led me to the entrance for (free) postal customer parking. I would never have noticed this entrance as it is a bit hidden away and not directly in front of the postal building. There were several open slots. I parked, walked up a few steps and entered a building and asked the uniformed officers in the lobby “where can I mail a package”. They courteously and politely directed me to the correct entrance for the Post Office Store lobby. When I arrived in the lobby I saw about 6 people standing along the walls and took a ticket and stood in line. I was immediately called to the service counter (no waiting) by a very helpful postal employee (clerk #35) who assisted mailing my package to my son for his birthday and sold me stamps. She was very nice, kind, polite, professional and cheerful. I left and was back in my car in less than 5 minutes. This was easily one of my most pleasant post office experiences ever. Thank you.

Unfortunately I got to the post office late and the passport section had just closed for the day 10 minutes prior. The young lady Tamara was such a great help to me. She exemplified patience and amazing customer service. Instead of turning me away she assisted me with finding the correct envelop to mail my passport off. She also took my picture at the very last minute!! Tamara was pleasant, professional, and made a stressful situation turn into a memorable experience at the post office!! Thanks again for helping me to execute a cute passport photo! Your customer service made my day!!

I had some mail that needed to be postmarked today and went down to this post office. In addition to being in a beautiful historic building, the postal clerks were very friendly and helpful. I have been in line when people come in unprepared and expect the clerks to complete their forms for them. The forms are personal to the sender and no clerk should fill out express mail or priority mail of certified forms for the customer. People expect the clerks to be perfect and to do their job as well as the customer part of the transaction. If you are having a problem with delivery, you should visit your post office and not try to call the downtown office. They are busy with customers and don't have time to stop and answer the phone when the caller really didn't want this post office anyway. People need to take responsibility for their actions and stop placing the blame on the post office. If you need something there tomorrow or the next day, send it express mail and it will arrive. If you send it priority mail, then it doesn't have a guarantee but in most cases it will arrive in a couple of days. The post office has no control over the weather. If there is a horrible snowstorm, they have to wait for the roads to be cleared just like the rest of us. Just the hint of ice or snow causes most St. Louisians to panic and rush to the tore to buy things that they probably don't need. It's the same for the post office. If snow is in the forecast, then you should probably wait a few days before going to the post office to mail your parcel. These people are doing a great job. If you don't think so, try to ship ore receive something from Fedex or UPS. They make you drive to the end of the earth to get your package. The post office is wonderful.

Great woman working behind the counter. Very helpful. I was too early for passports but she helped me anyway with a wonderful smile on her face. Convenient for anyone downtown.

I called in to ask about passports and spoke with Stalla (sp?) I was so happy with her service and attention to detail - she took the time to verify answers to my questions to make sure she was giving out correct information. She also kept me updated about why she had to put me on hold and was extremely friendly and helpful. Thank you!

I don't know why this post office has such a low rating. It is open later than any other location. The lines are no longer than any other post office, and the service is fine. Plus it is in a really beautiful building!

USPS is a national treasure - the staff try really hard to get solutions for everyone's different (and difficult) questions. This excellence is found at every USPS in St Louis, except for the Clayton branch on Maryland, aka The Seventh Circle of Hell.

They are always extremely helpful! I encourage individuals to solve problems first on their own, if you understand what you are asking you are able to get your answer quicker.

Surprised by all the negative reviews. Maybe they've recently turned things around. I've been in this location twice in the last week and I've received nothing but wonderful service. Friendly workers!!
