Our dad, Pat, a beloved Vista High School P.E. teacher and a football, wrestling, golf and baseball coach from 1956 through 1995, died on Saturday, May 15, 2021. Two months earlier, on March 18, 2021, our 97-year-old, widower dad fell three times in a 24-hour period. He was never the same afterward.

Some history: Our family has lived in the home at 234 Mar Vista Drive since early 1963. I rode my bike along the dirt toward St. Francis Catholic Church as the brand-new Highway 78 was being graded that year. Our home and others in the area were surrounded by avocado groves at that time.

To make a long, sad story short, Dad spent five days at Tri-City Medical Center after his falls. After his release, we were told by hospital staff that we should contact Jeff Chapman of Chapman Senior Services, based in Carlsbad. My sister and I met with him, and on the same day we chose an assisted living place for Dad at Merrill Gardens, a wonderful facility in Oceanside. We moved Dad into his "new home" there at the end of March.

Still, we needed to sell our beloved, over-half-century, family home in Vista. This is when Jeff introduced us to Cari Ann Drolet. From my initial phone contact with her, Cari has been the consummate pro. Unlike others that I've met in my 70 years (my wife and I have bought, and have lived in each of them for many years, four brand-new homes in Carlsbad since 1976), Cari understands people, their unique circumstances, and their emotions. Home ownership for folks like us is personal. My sister and I understood immediately that Cari was there to help us at a time when we were vulnerable emotionally. After all, my dad had tractor-mowed his 0.5 acres of land in the space beyond the pool fence just days before, and now he was dying. This was a week before his falling at home (the result of his 2nd Moderna Covid shot, we're convinced!).

Cari met with us at the house and asked the important questions. We quickly negotiated an extremely fair realtor's fee. Then Cari went to work. She has years of experience and is in contact with amazing people. She took care of everything. What a relief, for a family in strife. Our dad was in a brand-new home and in the last stages of life. The last thing we needed was to figure out whom to contact for the numerous details that home-selling entails.

She told us that she would set a price on the property for a certain amount, which was below the Zillow (or other website) estimates. Dubious at first, my sister and I believed in her, and we agreed. Cari assured us that those who truly wanted to live at my parents' residence would provide offers at above that price. She remained SO incredibly positive that it would sell for above the asking price.

And our parents' home did sell. Immediately! Once it hit the online world, the offers poured in. In hours, it seems, Cari was able to find buyers willing to purchase our home for WELL above the price we'd expected. Cari kept us up to date with instant texts. Thanks, Cari Ann!

For those of us in need of an honest appraisal of Cari's commitment, please know that she will be with her clients via text, email or phone call throughout the process.
