There wasn’t much to do in Aspen when we were there during the off season but at least this was available. The weather wasn’t very cooperative but it was a nice place to walk around. Learned a bit more about his life.

Although small, I'd say this park is worth a visit while in Aspen. It is a vfery serene and inspiring park. We enjoyed the peace and quiet as well as a family sing along of Annie's Song and Sunshine on my Shoulders. The views of the river and the mountains are spectacular. There is a few street parking spaces, but there's also a public parking garage.

What a beautiful park to visit. There's running river water, beautifully placed stones and rocks giving this park a Zen-like setting. I had the opportunity to visit on a Wednesday morning where the traffic was low and I was truly able to take in nature.

Located right next to the Rio Grande Trail in Aspen, this is a beautiful memorial dedicated to the life of John Denver. The whole Sanctuary area is georgous. The Denver family must be proud as it's really one of the most beautiful memorials that I've ever seen, especially in the summertime. If you're in the area, this memorial is a must visit.

As a life long JD fan, visiting the sanctuary and Aspen has been a bucket list item. The Song Garden that the city of Aspen created is magical. Well worth the visit.

Absolutely beautiful with many large boulders that have words to several of his songs engraved on them. John would have been proud of the honor his town bestowed on him. ❤❤

What lyrics describe the ineluctable glory of the Rocky Mountains better than John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High"? I assume that's why Aspen's Parks and Open Spaces department decided to create the John Denver Sanctuary.
(In case you forget the lyrics, they are engraved on a large boulder.)
Some of John Denver's other songs are also engraved on stones as is the wisdom of Carl Sagan.
The Sanctuary sits between the gloriously green Rio Grande Park and the mighty Roaring Fork River (which does indeed roar.)
The sanctuary part is a grassy area with stones arranged in a semi-circle amphitheater style. It's the perfect place to sit and contemplate. Be still and you can hear the rush of the river mix with the happy chirping of birds. Somehow those Colorado skies are a sparkling azure blue.
I like to walk on the paved path riverside. It gently meanders along the river banks. Beautiful flowers add vivid splashes of color.
Whenever life becomes a battlefield, I like to along the river in the Sanctuary. Somehow the river washes away the anger and I feel ready to take the @#$%!
A must if you show up in Aspen.

I come and walk through here everytime I visit Aspen.

In my opinion Aspen and this sanctuary are the most beautiful places on Earth.

If you come in the summer months, the trees will be green and the colors of the flowers really pop.

If you come in the fall, you'll see all the Aspen trees in shades of gold, orange and there's vibrant reds as well mixed with the greens of the pines.

The spring will have the trees blooming.

Words could never do this place justice. Take a look at online pictures to see a glimpse of what you can experience.

it was a small area that was full of plants and beautiful different routes to take. We took our dog and he had a blast , next to the sanctuary there is a big field where we ran around. There is bathrooms and everyone was friendly, there seems to be a concerts going on at the same park but we didn’t have tickets for the show. Overall it was nice and i recommend.

So beautiful and peaceful! So many beautiful sounds of rippling water throughout. Many spots to stop and reflect. Sit if you like. There is one picnic table in the back of you want to use that. I’d come back. The Rocky Mountain High Stone is a must see

Love this place. Serene walk among engraved rocks with John Denver poetry. Not wheel chair accessible, but easy to do for 2+ y.o. kids. Plenty of flowers to look at and smell

Lovely little park close to downtown Aspen! There are great views and peaceful spots. All around the area there are large boulders with John Denver lyrics cut into the stone. We wandered around taking photos and singing the songs. There are some places where you can get right close to the water.
