10th Mountain Division Hut

A hike up but beautiful scenery and flowers. The hut is closed unless you have a reservation. The composting outhouses are open.

We visited Froelichers hut which is one of the many beautiful 10th mountain division huts! With a exciting hike up to the Hut that perfectly accommodates the adventure of the wilderness around you!

Drove to the trail head with a good chance of snow in the forecast. Beautiful Four mile (+/-) ski and snowshoe in to the Hut. We started at the gravel pit and parked down the road about a half mile. The trail is well marked with blue diamonds. We used the tracks downloaded from the 10th Mountain Division website on our phone GPS. We found it most helpful since the trail was under fresh snow. The cabin is beautiful and cozy. Accommodates 16 comfortably with one main bedroom area and two showrooms. It snowed another two feet while we were there and had to shovel the walkway to the outhouse. Water was easily available by melting snow and the hand pumped cistern. There are plenty of gas burners to heat water and cook on. Great family FUN....

This is a pretty cool thing in the area. It is also not the only one, there are quite a few huts around that you can hike too. Everything looks pretty rustic but that is pretty cool. They have everything you need put wood for fires, outhouses, etc. The cost to stay goes to a good cause too.
