Aspen City Hall

Whenever I'm in Aspen, I like to drop in to City Hall and pay my taxes personally.
The old City Hall on Galena was in a historical 1890s building. I loved the history behind the old wood walls wainscoting.
The new City Hall, though, is an architectural marvel. I think it's a kewler building than the Aspen Art Museum. It sits at the edge of Rio Grande Park. The Rocky Mountains glisten out the windows, piercing the robin- egg blue sky. The building showcases the natural surroundings perfectly.
Go inside and it's as modern as they come. Check out the jaw-dropping circular staircase. It is a visual marvel from any angle.
The public spaces are named after local landmarks. Of course the lobby would be dubbed "Independence Pass."
Since this is an eco-friendly kind of town, you can pick up a cloth bag for free by the front door. Of course there is a recycling station.
Magazines and maps are there for the taking.
There is no close-by parking. You have to traverse a long plaza to get to the low-slung building. But there's plenty of bike parking!
I just love this building! It' joy takes the sting out of the checks I have to write.

The open fields are way better than the town and the people

The city spent two years and untold thousands of tax dollars pursuing what the Pitkin County Court called "unlawful retaliation against protected speech." I was arrested, assaulted, libeled, and fired because these special little princesses have given themselves the impression that it's against the law to address them disrespectfully. It is not. The court found their "profane public utterances" ordinance to be unconstitutional, yet it remains on the books, because fascists hate freedom and that is who the City of Aspen chooses to hire.
