Smitty's Better Burger

If you are looking for a spot to eat. You gotta try Smitty's Better Burger! This place is a wonderful food jewel you don't want to miss! 1st service fast friendly and outstanding! 2nd, my meal was freshly cooked to perfection. I had a 4 piece white meat chicken dinner with coleslaw, crinkle fries, and a dinner roll. I also had a flounder sandwich, a Superburger w cheese, and a side of chili cheese fries. And lastly, the price was very reasonable. Bring your family and come with friends you won't be disappointed!🍔🍗

I always wondered what the hype was about this place so boyfriend and I decided to check it out for lunch. You pull up and a waitress takes your order from your car. The prices are great and the quality of the food is amazing. I had the cheesesteak sub and he had the better burger. We then shared a chili cheese tater tots. Those were yummy! Somehow they managed to cook them perfectly crisp and they didn’t get soggy from the chili and cheese. We will definitely go back. The atmosphere is retro and welcoming. Now I understand what the hype is about. And a shout out to Cindy Lou!! She was an absolutely great server!

Finally, I made it over to Smittys Better Burger yesterday. I stumbled upon Smitty's a couple of years ago after doing some photography up in Poquoson and made a mental bookmark for when I was back in the area. I'm glad I did. Since I was already going to be in Hampton on an errand I added Smitty's to the list for lunch. Also, for those who don't know, Smitty's is an old drive-in burger stand located near the south gate of the Langly AFB. It's been owned and operated since 1956 by the Smith family.

The awning next to the building was mostly full when I arrived however I was immediately able to find a parking space. Due to my parking location, near the front, and the rain, I was unable to see the posted menu. Within maybe two minutes a server was at my car window. I explained it was my first time there and didn't want to have her explain the menu in the rain and get soaked I just said can you give me a bacon cheeseburger and fries. She asked if I wanted the usual condiments, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, etc. I said yes. She also asked if I wanted a drink as well, and then off she went. Super fast and efficient.

Less than 10 minutes later she came out with a bag and my drink. The cost was $9.13 before I generously tipped her and the transaction was over. I opened my bag and the fries were on top. Wrapped in wax paper, they were thick crinkle-cut kind and the portion was generous. The photo I'm including doesn't do it justice as I had probably eaten a 3rd of them before I remembered to take a picture. Next was the bacon cheeseburger, wrapped in foil paper. The burger was a tank. Full of condiments and a well-proportioned patty. Again the photo doesn't do it justice. This was a dense juicy burger that tasted wonderful. I enjoyed my lunch.

Sadly due to the weather, I was unable to get out and take some photos of the location, however, there's already plenty to see on the restaurant's profile. After reading other reviews it seems that their onion rings are also held in high regard, so that will be on my list during a future visit. Another easy five-star visit.

The food is always fresh and delicious. The services was outstanding the girls are all very patient and respectful to the customers. The place is very well preserved and clean and welcoming to the. Community? I will return, i got the Better Burger special the last time i was there. It comes with you choice drink and Better Burger with a side of fries.
I would like to try the Chicken wing dinner the next trip.

Old school & fresh! This place is the truth for fresh burgers, onion rings & fried chicken. Have gone back twice since finding the place and have not been disappointed! Even tried their NC based BBQ sandwich and this SC girl had to give them a thumbs up for the flavor and not vinegar tasting.

No frills! Drive up and they will come out to car to take your order. Cook to order, so there will be a wait if you don't call ahead!

After a bad issue with someone judging a serious health issue I have at My last visit, My daughter and I decided to go to Smittys for dinner. Michelle was understanding and an amazing Car Hopper, friendly and left us happy and smiling. Our food was delicious and fresh with good portions and well worth the cost which is a lot more affordable vs corporate fast food.

We both had the flounder dinner, try it because it's a good meal for the money.

Fast service! Great walk up service. Just park and they will come to you. Put hazards on when ready to order. Fresh hot burgers with great taste. Great price for large burgers. Would recommend. Best spot in Hampton for a great Hood Burger. Thank you!

It was our first time, parking lot was packed it’s a very popular place, and for good reason! We parked the car and even being so busy it didn’t take very long to be assisted. Cindy went out of her way to make it an awesome first experience even bringing a tray out and all! Great food at a very affordable price. Definitely see us coming here to way more often in the future!

Had order for 10 people. She was delightive, attentive to details. They bagged each order separately and put each person's name on bag. Food was great. Price was much less than I expected. Highly recommend.

Have eaten their burgers for a lifetime. Their bbq sandwich is top notch and very well proportioned. Just tried the fried chicken and it did not disappoint. It was well cooked and flavorful and I will get it again.

It's a great place to bring back memories with family sit in the car or go out to there picnic table I love there chuck wagon I got there every time when um visiting Hampton chuck wagon remind me of my younger days in the country..it's hard to find a pack of chuck wagon ion know what grocery store sell chuck wagon if anyone knows a place where I can buy a pack please let me know..🥺😅

Great food at a good price. Excellent compared to chain fast foods. Great with dinners too. Try their shrimp dinner. Waitresses are extra attentive and super nice.

This place deserves a full 5 stars! It’s a very retro/old school drive up. The service was prompt and polite. The food was quick and delicious. The pricing was very fair for the large portions received. 2 thumbs up!

Stopped in spur of the moment for work lunch.not the best part of town some say but no bother , this place been there since 1950s though looked freshly painted & clean ...Drive up old school car hop service was cool, got the daily burger special for about $10, fries were crinkle &crispy burger was good n hearty,tasty it comes with all the toppings,sweet tea was diabetic how I like it.. for sure return again 🤙

Best quick inexpensive lunch ever! Nostalgic too!🍔🍟🥤 Old-fashioned Drive In with Curb service. Make sure you check out the "Twirly-Dog"!! Goes well with tater tots!

If you like the old style drive in and good food at a fair price, you've got to visit this staple of the Hampton! The dinners are definitely the best value but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

Still love that they serve you from the car. Great memories and great food always. Wait staff are always polite and smiling.

Good quick food. The setting takes me back to my childhood days when we would pull up to a restaurant as a family and your order was taken at the car.

Lol. There's nothing special or unique to eat or drink here (okay, the Twirly Dogs are amusingly fun). But it's the nostalgia that makes it worth coming back over and over again. Prices are indeed affordable and the carhops are simply adorable. Shout out to Mrs Virginia!
