Never heard of this place till I was trying to find some jazz on a Friday night, and saw they have jazz every Tuesday and Friday! Walked down on a lovely evening and split a bottle of wine. The folks who worked here, were amazing and friendly. The space was so comfy and welcoming. We sat at the bar and they had the comfiest seats I have ever sat in! Can't wait to go back to grab some food. Such a wonderful place along the canal to grab a wonderful bottle of wine and listen to some soothing jazz!

This restaurant featuring wine, coffee, lunch and dinner is off to a great start! I absolutely love the decor. I came for the mussels, a dessert and a glass of wine. The mussels which were artistically highlighted by many saffron threads provided a nice canvas for the black shells. I thoroughly enjoyed the grilled Halloumi cheese with the roasted vegetables. For more balance a few more veggies would have been great against the two large fillets of cheese. The wine list featured a good variety of options from many winemaking regions and some local vineyards. For dessert, I was disappointed that the Apple Flower Tart was unavailable but enjoyed the cheesecake and chocolate cake options. As an added touch the restaurant sits in the retail space juat outside of Canal Walk which provides a beautiful backdrop. They also had live music this evening which was an added touch. I will definitely return in the future!

Cool and quaint place, located on the canal walk, super diverse brunch menu. ,(didnt get to see the dinner menu) great choices for Mimosas, and they taste great, check out the chicken and waffles, And the Bateau story fits its location. #Fromdaclubhouse recommended

Wonderful wine and coffee bar along the canal. We stumbled upon Bateau walking the canal and could not have been happier. Wonderful wines and the best mocha I've ever had. Staff was incredibly friendly and I strongly recommend coming here for an afternoon or evening. We were also impressed with the rich history behind the name and presentation. Will definitely be back here.

Everything about this restaurant and I mean everything was superb! From the moment we walked in, the bartender giving us our drinks, and our food coming to the table. The care in ensuring we were happy and content with what was given to us just made this experience so wonderful. My fiance and I will definitely be making this a continued establishment to dine! Plus it is black owned. Well worth every penny!!

Great place for morning coffee can do drip or fufu. And has almond and soy milk. Had cappuccino with almond milk. Not busy and soft music. Free WiFi which is fairly speedy since not much customer competition. Good stop to start the day and get some work done. Would also be a good spot for work meeting. Some pre-baked goods if want something to nosh. Not the spot for full on breakfast.

We had a wonderful evening dining at Bateau. The red snapper was outstanding. It was served on a bed of jasmine rice with a side of roasted, vegetables accented by the honey glaze on the fish and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere along the canal was an added treat to our outdoor dining experience. The owner was a wonderful host and the service was personal and professional. This is by far our favorite restaurant for dinner in Richmond. We look forward to our next dining experience at Bateau.

This was our first time visiting for a birthday brunch this morning and Barbara was fantastic! My boyfriend ordered the thai coffee and she did a great job! He ordered 2 it was so good! I ordered chicken and waffles, eggs and a vegetarian sausage! They were all delicious! The chicken being baked and not fried made the dish super easy to eat! I got full and unfortunately could not finish the chocolate cake... but I have it with me now! Thank you to Tony for your beautiful plating and delicious food! Barbara for her kindness and excellent customer service! And who I think is the owner, he was friendly and funny! I can't wait to come back!

This is a beautiful, sophisticated and historically correct venue. The food is excellent with mature service. A must do.

Great spot for relaxing and enjoying a glass of wine. Lovely decor and fantastic service from the time we entered until we left. Taking proper Covid-19 precautions, no contact forehead thermometer, hands free sanitizer at the door, staff are masked. Great ambiance. Overall wonderful experience and a super selection of wines, espresso, and small bites!

Let me be clear, this restaurant is not for everyone. I am a native of Richmond and coming "home" does not always feel like home. But this restaurant felt like for a few hours nothing else mattered. Like Auntie was in the kitchen making my plate special and I laughed and talked over glassES of wine. It felt like a sanctuary away from all of the fast paced franchises and finally some real cooking made with love. It felt like a staff that cared about your life and investment in the community. It was a place built around love. Love is rarely fast and easy, but over a slow simmer it will always bring beauty. So as I said, it's not for everyone, but if you have some time to let love in.. you might as well enjoy some wine and good food in the process.

My sweetheart and I had brunch at this amazing place today. The atmosphere, food, service and amazing staff simply awesome. If you are in the Richmond area you will have an unforgettable experience. . We are definitely going back real soon !!!!!!

Delicious food, beautiful decor, and the only restaurant right on the canal! Perfect for an elegant dinner after a trip on the canal boats, or to grab the best tasting latte before work! The wine selection is humongous and very diverse, and they even have live jazz playing every Tuesday and Friday nights. This is definitely a hidden gem waiting to be revealed to Richmond’s dining scene!

Very nice decor & bar space. Owners onsite & very pleasant & accommodating. Good location.

Perfect place for a date night. Located at Richmond canal it is a perfect place for a nice walk before or after diner. Wine selection was great and food was tasty too. Our server, Dante, was very polite.

My wife and I had a wonderful dinner here. The jazz music was a great addition to the ambiance. The owner was very pleasant and attentive. Will certainly be coming back.

What an absolutely elegant experience. From the decor, to the exquisite menu, to the quality of the food and the friendly service, 5 stars are not enough. We're from Southern California & this dining experience alone made the trip to Richmond, VA worthwhile.

This place has a comfortable elegance and a really fly modern feng Shui .. the Sunday brunch entree offerings are paired very well with mimosas and a vast wine selection.
