Read some reviews before I visited which scared me, but felt that I had responsibility to write this after signing up. Moved down to Richmond a few months ago so I was checking out different gyms to join. Joined this spot because of the variety of equipment, the space, open 24 hours, the cleanliness, and the mannerisms of manager and staff when I first entered. They broke down the different options for me, very smooth, very helpful and very friendly. The manager, Mike, always asks and checks on me when I walk by, and the rest of the staff is usually smiling and friendly. Just to give u context, I was a member of the same company gym in DC for years and I didn't know any staff members name. All in all Dope spot, also has a parking lot, bike parking for us urban pirates, and the locker room is clean with a sauna. Only thing missing is steam room and a pool,.... but yo... Dope spot

This gym is massive. It doesn’t look super huge from the outside but inside there are multiple functional areas with turf, group fitness studios, barbells, lifting platforms, a weight room, and designated cardio area. The staff are friendly and the space is well maintained.

Dyson Roy is a great personal trainer, was very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend if anyone is looking for a personal trainer to ask for them. Gym is great too, clean and wait time for machines is non-existent or low

Has everything a lifter needs including spaces to do body weight work which a lot of gyms lack. Chill staff and cheap price for what it provides

I joined a year ago and I like this Gym. It is small and cozy. Once you get to know the floor plan, it is easy to get around. I also like the front desk people. They have been always friendly, always polite and responsive.
I understand that there are issues with membership fees and "switch and bait" practices, however no one will charge you a fee if you have a written agreement signed. It is illegal. You need to ask questions and be more in tuned with the polices.
I tried Golds at Willow Lawn and decided that it was not for me. I will stick to the this one.

After trying each Golds Gym in Richmond I’ve found this Golds in The Fan has the best atmosphere for working out. The staff is awesome, every time I walk in they make sure my guest and I are good to go. During my workouts there are all always trainers walking around supporting. Perfect amount of equipment, never crowds on the cardio machines, & always room for you to hop on a bike, treadmill or stair master.

The staff member Lee was awesome. My friend and I usually workout at the Meadowbrook location, however it was closed for some reason. We called this location, Lee went above and beyond for us. We thought we would have to pay extra, he looked up our phone numbers and let us know there was no fee for us to come work out. His shift was ending as we arrived and he went out of his way to give us a tour of the place as well. He represented Gold's extremely well and he saved our night. Thanks Lee from Eddie and James!

Awesome place to workout! Friendly atmosphere and there are cleaning stations everywhere which makes things feel safe. The current manager is a really nice dude! I’ve had the pleasure of having a couple conversations with him and he seems to genuinely care about what people have to say. Highly recommend this location!

Gold's Gym in the Fan is a great local place for the community to work on yourself and improve your everyday lifestyle. I was nervous early this year with COVID-19 given that I am in the healthcare industry, but having been a member at the Fan for a considerable amount of time, I can truly say I am very impressed with their cleaning staff and the precautionary sanitation measures they have taken.

Every time I walk through the door I'm greeted with a wide-open welcome and assurance that safety measures are taking place. Just the other day I asked the general manager to open my favorite piece of equipment that was closed off for social distancing and he was able to accommodate me in a safe manner without compromising the safety of others or myself.

Overall, if you're searching for a local 24/7 gym that is right for you, I highly suggest checking out this one here in the Fan.

I recently joined Gold's in the Fan and couldn't be happier. The GM Aaron and his staff are great and the place is always clean and in order. Even during the busy days/times I'm able to get the equipment I need to get in a great workout! The members are friendly and I always leave with a positive vibe. If you're serious about exercising and staying fit, this is the gym for you!

My friends and I all really enjoy working out here, the place is always clean and all the employees are always helpful! We all talk about the equipment that we like/don’t or that you guys seem to be missing that some of the other gyms have! You guys lack the hammer strength equipment which is better I feel since it actually has knurling on the handles instead of the soft rubber so we can lift heavier, and you guys lack a crucial leg machine called a hack squat(tons of other members always mention that) all in all most of the equipment is great. It would be cool if you got some new bars though since all but one actually have any grip/knurling! Other then that I can’t complain!

I've been going to this gym for four years and would not join another gym in Richmond. It's location is convenient, hours are flexible, and the equipment/space has never been an issue. For me I workout early in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon and the staff is always accommodating, even if I arrive earlier than opening at 5am. It was disappointing when I went on to look at classes for the week to see any negative reviews, this is a good gym. I would imagine these are probably from New Years resolutioners because it does not seem as though the people who go there have any issues.

After the shutdown I had been itching to get back in the gym. I recently moved to Richmond and decided to try out golds gym. I really like the place, the staff is always really friendly, and when I twisted my ankle using their punching bag, they gave me a free month so I wasn’t charged while I recovered.

Extremely considerate of my circumstance, meant a lot to me with the financial hardship I’ve faced recently with the whole COVID Pandemic. I would definitely recommend them!

This “Gold’s Gym” location is amazing! All the staff members are extremely helpful and not to mention that the awesome general manager “Jared Rubin” is just simply the best hands down. I strongly recommend this gym facility to anybody.

I joined the compel program through a different gym and had to switch over because of an emergency move.

My issue with the transfer is not completely resolved BUT I’m a lot less confused! My 5 star rating is for the response from both the compel and golds gym front desk staff.

They are going through a transition since compel is new at this facility. I got to see Justin from compel almost immediately after coming to them with my concerns yesterday and was told that I could continue working out until they resolve the issue. Today I got to speak to Robert who was also helpful in finding the root cause of the issue. I saw that I interrupted them from whatever they were doing but they still took the time to help me.

I’ve dealt with gym management in the past that try to get rid of people with issues instead of taking them seriously - very thankful that this hasn’t been like that.

As for the compel training:

I worked out with Brandi and she was good at coming up with exercises on the fly when I asked for legs and then switched it to arms when my legs were gassed out. My legs already feel wobbly. She was super nice, especially since I was struggle bussing a bit this morning :).

Thanks y’all!

I have been a member of gyms across the country and in Canada. This Golds gym in the Fan area of Richmond is terrific. No complaints from me, great courteous staff, friendly members, never a wait for a machine. Can't say enough ... I am happy AND NOT EASILY PLEASED. Thanks Ed 'The Chief' Altman, and the staff at Gold's in the Fan.

Personal trainers here are top notch and extremely personable. Always see them out and about and ready to help people at the gym, even when they aren't their own clients. Extremely impressed with both training and front desk staff upon every visit!

Love this gym! Great facility and super nice management. The manager really went above and beyond to help me out with transferring my membership when I moved to Richmond- he even reimbursed me when the corporate office messed up and overcharged me 100 dollars, even though he didn't have to since it was their mistake. Definitely a stand out gym with a great community.

This by far is my favorite gym. Granted, I haven't been to many, but I have visited the Swift Creek and the Willow Lawn locations.

The staff and the trainers are all very personable, and particularly the Manager, Ed Altman, is extremely helpful. I met Ed a few years ago, and he can remember specific conversations and dates we spoke to each other at the gym. He remembers each of his clients from years ago and can site when they originally joined the gym. This may not be all that great to some folks, but as someone else who is constantly meeting new people thru work, it definitely let's me know how appreciative he is for my business. He takes time to correct and address whatever issues I may have.

This gym has a lot of regulars throughout the week, and there are only at certain times that it gets crowded. It's best to go late mornings between 10 and noon. It's right down the street from VCU and a bunch of restaurants so the location works well with my travels between home and office(N Blvd). Thank goodness there's a Gold's in the Fan is all I have to say
