The Commonwealth

Spent 2 nights here recently and I really enjoyed my stay. Comfy, cozy room with nice beds. The location is great. Bunch of good resturants to walk to for breakfast and dinner. There is only valet parking so plan that. Will be back when staying in the downtown area again!

This Hotel is amazing! The location is wonderful! The suite was clean, modern and spacious! The hotel staff was absolutely amazing. They were all so friendly and welcoming! We didn’t get the name of the manager but she was a rockstar! The whole valet team was amazing, but Kenny took care of us the most and he was great! 10/10 would recommend!

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay at The Commonwealth. The comedy show we wanted to see sold out at home so we thought the Altria in Richmond was a good backup. We booked a room here and were so happy with our decision. A straight shot to the theater with plenty of good food choices within walking distance. Our room was huge - probably one of the biggest rooms we've ever stayed in at a hotel. It felt like an apartment! I want to give credit to the staff because not only were they extremely friendly and helpful, they had told me that they recently hired workers that spoke very little English. Instead of forcing them to learn English, the English-speaking staff was learning Spanish. How inclusive and a wonderful show of diversity in the staff! We will always be staying here when in town.

PHENOMENAL hotel! The location is perfect-- walking distance from everything. Rooms were well appointed, clean, beautifully decorated and comfortable. The restaurant was lovely, a limited menu but well prepared. The staff were AMAZING-- so kind, genuinely warm and friendly. I can not say enough good things about The Commonwealth!

We stayed 3 nights as a family of four. The rooms were large, service was great and the hotel is in a good location. There are restaurants that are walkable. The parking is valet only. There's a restaurant downstairs but also several coffee shops in the area.

I'm a travel health care worker, nightshifter,so it's very important I sleep comfortably and have as much quiet as possible. Done! My room was very quiet. The bedding was crisp, white linens. The pillows were firm, mattress perfect. Not too soft. The bathroom was immaculate. Plenty towels, fluffy and white.Hot water and no leaky faucets! Keurig was definitely appreciated. The fridge was cold, I didn't use microwave though. Front desk was very personable and helpful with any questions I had. The elevator is small but not a big deal. I have definitely seen my share of hotel rooms, I would put Commonwealth up there with the high end chain hotels. I didn't have to PRE sanitize my room, I didn't get that heeby jeeby feeling when inspecting the bedding.I would definitely return for another stay. Check out options were greatly appreciated. The only thing I feel can be improved is the door fitting closer to frame. My door had very large gap. I stayed there for work 3 nights, Christmas and Christmas eve. I never heard any barking from anyone's dog. There were dog treats on counter of front desk. Maybe add a few "human treats"?

Having unexpectedly delivered my baby at 34 weeks pregnant while on a business trip to Richmond, my husband and I ended up having to spend two weeks at VCU Medical, as our baby remained in the NICU. We booked our stay at The Commonwealth -- a convenient walk to/from the hospital – not knowing how long we'd end up staying... and the staff was flexible and accommodating every step of the way. Knowing our particular situation, they were empathetic and kind, checking in with us often about how our baby was doing. Even the Valet team checked in with us for updates. Everyone we encountered was friendly and generous with their time and support. We stayed in a Suite, which was fully equipped with everything we needed for an extended stay, including a kitchenette and working area. We would highly recommend The Commonwealth to anyone looking for a home away from home during their Richmond visit (unexpected or otherwise!). Thank you, The Commonwealth!

The location is wonderful, near the parkways, the rooms very specious love the floors , the decor is amazing , comfortable beds , I gave it a 4 for cleanliness I own my own cleaning company and it could used some extra cleaning on the corners , underneath the sinks the pipes wipe down the dust from it is , a very beautiful room will add the extra luxury pay attention to the spots the you think people would not notice but sure will like me I pay attention even behind the areas when cleaning move furniture keeps the dust out and corners of toilets , tubs , showers could used a little Clorox to keep the yellowing out , besides that I love the stay at the commonwealth, and is a pet friendly site will bring my furry friend next time , and for been a pet friendly hotel sure is kept clean 😃 good job on that , everyone is very friendly, besides one of the valet’s even if he was tired no need to give an attitude just because I didn’t understand what he was telling me , oh yeah and the price for valet was a little pricey, , overall, I do recommend the stay at this wonderful beautiful stay at the commonwealth , see you next time

Honestly, staying here was a wonderful experience. The staff was INCREDIBLY FRIENDLY and sooooooo helpful. We brought our dog and a baby and our suite was gorgeous and you would never know it’s a dog-friendly hotel (in a GOOD way). They have treats at the desk but so often dog-friendly hotels can feature old, worn or not clean furniture and bedding. This hotel was spotless, modern and so comfortable. Exactly what we needed after a long day of driving. Highly recommend! The man at the valet/concierge was so kind and helpful, he alone is a reason to stay here.

Huge suites—bigger than most apartments. Very friendly staff. And a kind of quirky one-of-a-kind feel. I always stay here when I come to Richmond. Avoid the generic hotel—stretch out and get funky here.

We were in town for a concert at the National. This was close and reasonably priced. We were thrilled to arrive and find how awesome and eclectic this place is! Spacious and clean rooms, close to the venue right in the heart of downtown. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Valet was super convenient. It made for an awesome care free trip! Loved it!

What a great place to stay.. a transformed office building that was very hip and cool.. the service was great and downtown location is probably great for most but I was there to visit the University of Richmond which is on the north side of town.. regardless, a great place to stay

Wonderful experience. Beautiful room. Bed was incredibly comfortable. Valet parking was a little hectic at certain times of the day (which is why the 4 stars for service)but overall great. We will be staying here again! Perfect location, close to the bottom and downtown.

The Commonwealth is a beautiful hotel. It is in a great location, the rooms are very clean and the staff is incredibly friendly. I always stay here when Im in the RVA. Thanks!

If you plan on staying in Richmond, the best decision you will make is to stay at the Commonwealth!!! The stay was perfect from beginning to end. Are the elevators smaller, yes but that is no biggie! I noticed that in the morning and at night is when the water was the hottest, any other times the water temperature was more lukewarm. It was clean. Loveddddd the layout of the King Suite Deluxe Room. Very spacious. It was clean. The staff was amazing! Everyone was friendly, welcoming and attentive. I loved this hotel the best out of all of the downtown hotels in Richmond. It is conveniently located next to the capital building and there is a wonderful park to walk around and get some fresh air. This is the place to BOOK!! Trust me! A peaceful nights rest, in a beautiful hotel.

The sales manager Tiffany was amazing! She helped us with a block of rooms for a corporate event with very little notice after another local hotel flaked out. The front desk staff was so friendly, especially Khalidah. The rooms are huge and clean, and the beds are super comfy. Great location too. All around an amazing place to stay in Richmond!

I would like to say thank you to everyone at the Commonwealth for making our stay wonderful. This was a vacation of sorts - but I was actually apartment hunting and coming back to the hotel after long days of exploring the city and looking for potential places to live, the staff really created a stress-free environment. They were so accommodating as we had to keep taking the car out and bringing it back so I could get to all my appointments on time. The valet service was a godsend. I can't say enough positive things about our experience.

My family of 4 (Mom, Dad, 5yo & 1 yo) had a superb 2 night stay at the Commonwealth. Everyone from the valet attendant to the hotel receptionist was very nice and welcoming. They went out of their way to accommodate our 1yo's need of a pack n play and even had it set up for us upon arrival. The beds were very comfortable and everything was nice and clean! We will return when back in the area.

Absolutely loved my stay here. Redeemed a rough start to the trip. Room was lovely, I liked the decor and design. The murals on each floor are a cool touch. Had a view of the capitol building. Service was fantastic, everyone was so nice and helpful. Hotel is very quiet and relaxing. Having a restaurant downstairs is very convenient. Bartender is great. Area is also very walkable with many food options and sights nearby. I would stay here again on any future Richmond visits and highly recommend it.

Absolutely great experience! This is the second hotel I've stayed at downtown, and it will be my first choice moving forward. Mark, with the valet service, was a pleasure and incredibly personable. All of the front desk staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The restaurant was reasonably priced and had a variety of options. The room was spacious, and comfortable as well.
