Gwenie's Pastries

These were honestly some of, if not the best, doughnuts I’ve ever had. I got a mango and an ube, and both were absolutely delicious. The way the outside crust of the doughnut lightly played with the entire soft cream was a thing of beautify. The sugar on top? Nah, the cherry on top. It added the perfect texture to the bite to be sure. I would 100% recommend this place, in fact I would suggest they start growing actually.

Almost left the Rockville area without visiting Gwenie's but I had a sudden craving for halo halo on an unseasonably warm day. It's a short walk from Twinbrook Metro and well worth the visit! The store is very small with no seating but there's a bench outside where I ate my halo halo. Most people drive in to pick up their baked goods.

The halo halo was larger than I expected. It comes in a bowl with ube shaved ice, fruit gelatins, a tiny cube of leche flan, some other sweets, and a sprinkling of corn flakes! Perfect on a warm sunny day!

So many Filipino desserts!! I came here from Arlington, VA by metro specifically for the ube halo halo. Worth it!

It's a sizeable dessert & costs about $10. I couldn't finish it all. It's made with shaved ice🍧, which is unique. The shaved ice was so smooth, almost the consistency of firm, but creamy ice cream. The toppings were traditional. Highly recommend.

The cashier was very nice. Everything is to go, & there isn't a dine in area. But the cashier let me sit on the small bench inside to eat my halo halo.

I also bought an oval Leche flan, which I'll contribute to a small gathering in a few days. Cost $8. Probably could feed a small party of 6 people. The cashier said it will keep in the fridge for 1 week, which is perfect.

Sweet tooth tales told by Gwenie’s are featuring tropical Filipino flavors(Pandan, Ube, and Brazo De Mercedes) fusion with quality pastries! I love all of them, finished the Ube Pie first w dense purple yam grainy taste, not so sweet. Panda-cream filled donut and Brazo de Mercedes are so fluffy, on the sugary tasty side, but hey it’s gonna satisfy you for a while without missing them ;) very cute and neat store, will be back for sure☝

It’s worth it to be patient if they are still filling the fresh-made donuts when you arrive. Soft, yeasted donuts dusted with sugar are filled with a lighter-than-air filling flavored with pandan, mango, or ube. Eat over a napkin so your shirt doesn’t get draped in cream filling! Pick up a slice of ube cheesecake for later. Service was fast and friendly too.

The ube halo halo is SO good! The ube pan de sal is good too. My cat even liked the ube loaf, stealing some when I wasn't looking lol. I can't wait to go back for the strawberry calamansi and more halo halo! Service was quick and friendly, just like the sibling restaurant Kuya Ja! I'm only bummed I didn't know these places were so close a long time ago.

My first time having Filipino desserts. I ready enjoyed the dough with the pork and egg inside. It was freshly baked and a reasonably priced. Well done.

It’s so rare to find a Filipino bakery, and this one is top notch! My husband and I came in and were immediately welcomed by the team. We ordered two of the Sio Bao savory buns, and they were delicious! We also picked up one of the Ube cheese buns, and it was SO good! Love the layers of flavor in that one. If you’re in the Frederick area and looking for a unique and fun bakery to visit, check out Gwenie’s!

Expensive, but so so good. The ube flavor is super unique and delicious!

The ube cheesecake is creamy and light, and the cream cheese and ube flavors are so well integrated. The ube pie also has a delicious ube whipped frosting with a rich filling and flavorful crust! I loved all the layers :)

Edit: recently tried their ube cupcake, ube cake, and ube loaf as well. All three are amazingly delicious!

Their mocha cupcake tastes like tiramisu! I loved everything. Very good fillipino selections and recipes. That KING BW W reviewer doesnt know what hes talking about, clearly knows nothing about the phillipines.

Several foodies in my community have raved about Gwenie's; so naturally, I had to check it out for myself. I love ube and there are so many ube options on their menu...I walked in and was like, yes, I am in ube heaven! We purchased ube cheesecake, ube custard pie, pandan and ube filled doughnuts, sapin, ube/cheese filled roll, and sweet coconut filled roll. All the desserts were amazing. The ladies are so friendly and answered all of our questions. This is a great family business tucked away in Rockville. I plan to comeback and definitely recommend it to all my friends in the area. I recently read about Ube and the various desserts that are based on Ube. I wanted to bake some desserts using Ube but wanted to get a taste for this food item before I went down the cooking rabbit hole. Yelping for "Ube near me" led me to Gwenie's! And Thank the stars for that recommendation!

The store is located in a warehouse location and has no storefront other than a heavy metal door! I thought we were at the wrong place, but I did venture ahead and opened the door. That action revealed a store behind the doors and we went right in!

The display shelves is packed with all kinds of desserts and other items. I was amazed with the variety of items available here. We got a good introduction to all the goodies on sale and ended up purchasing a whole bunch of items!

All the items were epic! And we are instant fans of Ube! Even the non-ube desserts were really awesome!

We have been to Gwenie's many times since our first visit and have even introduced our friends to desserts from this store.

Gwenie's is definitely on our go to list for dessert in the area!

Hard to find but so worth it! the staff was so nice! they answered all my questions with ease as it was clearly my first time having Filipino pastries. Delicious! worth the drive from Frederick! will be back for sure!

Absolutely delicious ube! I had never tried it before, but I am so happy I did. The doughnuts are perfect. The dough is not too sweet and perfectly fried.

Such delicious, fresh baked filipino goodies. Reminds me so much of growing up in Cebu. Always friendly and reasonably priced. Highly recommend. Also ordering ahead of time is always recommended since they are open only on weekends and run out quick. Thanks Gwenies!

Really welcoming energy - The cakes are so fluffy, buttery, and not overly sweet! They have a really good selection of different options of goodies. The Pastillas De Leche are one of my favorites. Very accessible and there's plenty of parking.

Their ube pandesal is unreal - I wish I had gotten a whole dozen! The donuts are always a favorite as well.

My husband surprised me with an Ube Birthday cake, as well as donuts each filled with pandan cream, ube cream, mango cream, and hazelnut cream. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! They use quality ingredients, which sets them apart from many other bakeries I've tried. The cream is so light and fluffy, and the sponge cake also very light. I will most definitely be ordering from Gwenie's again!

They are great. So many dessert's taste amazing.

The ube cake saves my soul every time, the mango cupcakes are a crowd favorite, the padan donuts are as soft as a sweet cloud, the loaf cake is a perfect accompaniment for coffee and tea, the coconut bun will whisk you off to a tropical island...Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything you pick. The owner is also the sweetest and makes the most delicious and beautiful cakes, which she happily customizes. I got an amazing shower cake here for a colleague.
