Alton's Old School

I give my highest recommendation to Michael Alton! He is incredibly talented! He gave me one of the best haircuts I’ve ever received! I’m so sad that I don’t live in Dallas to get regular ongoing haircuts from Michael, because I’m only visiting Dallas from Florida for 7 weeks! But Michael’s haircutting skills would actually be a reason to fly halfway across the country! Thanks, Michael! :)

I got a great buzz cut AND a beer! Can't beat that for the price! Moses is the coolest guy and didn't bat an eye at a lady asking for a buzz cut. He listened to my requests (nape and burns natural, high off the ears, clean neck) and helped me figure out which length I really wanted. When I wasn't sure about details he quickly identified which way would look best. I love the cut I got and the price. Did I mention there was beer?

Just got one of the best haircuts. A really nice place with staff that is very experienced in hair. It's definitely the old school barber shop that you will want to come to for a very long time. Very happy to have found this place.

Absolutely my favorite place to get a haircut! The team is fantastic from being super nice, welcoming, full of great personalities, and having a vast amount of knowledge. I always ask their opinion or input for what I’m going for, and I trust their expertise. It hasn’t been anything, but wonderful. I highly recommend going here!

Great experience. This is a genuine barbershop with true craftspeople. This is not anything like Supercuts et al, nor a fancy salon. Daunya took my beared from scraggly to stylish and made me comfortable all the while. Highly recommended.

Prior to coming here I had a barber back in San Antonio for 10 years.
And I found alton's online and booked an appointment. So I setup an appointment with Danny,she was sweet and professional, and did a great job trying to get my hair done they way my barber back home did it. I will definitely be back to see Danny!!! Gave her a $20 tip 😀😃

First timer at Alton’s and had a great experience with Danny Landero. I asked for a taper fade cleanup around. She def took her time being thorough and it came out great. Very satisfied and their hours/appt times work with my schedule. I believe Daunya, the owner, was there also, cutting a group of brothers and having a friendly conversation with their mom perhaps. It definitely gave me a happy repeat customer vibe. The place a has cool old barbershop feel and if you’re early enough to wait, you’re offered a water/beer! Will be visiting again.

5 star barbershop all the way. Had an appoint today with Jonathan and he’s is great. Super friendly and a really talented hair stylist, he got my mess of hair looking great in 30 minutes! Appt scheduling is easy and literally walk in at your time. Altons is awesome all the way around! Definitely recommend and will come back in a couple months. Thanks!

You can’t ask for a better barbershop experience than Alton’s. I have been going. To Michael for at least 5 years now with a few of his other guys filling in for me from time to time. His staff is the best, I wouldn’t trust my hair to anyone outside this shop.

The atmosphere is exactly what you want. Great conversation not just with the person cutting your hair, but the space is set up so that often times everyone in the shop is laughing it up together. Always a good movie on, and the music is on point with everything from punk rock to hip hop. Plus you can grab a local beer on draft while you wait.

Michael won’t brag about his high end salon pedigree but I will. He treats whatever request I have for my hair with precision and artistic skill. If you want your beard lines laser straight, this is your place. Do yourself a favor and buy the beard balm (which Michael makes himself btw), to take home. Your beard will look and smell like a million bucks.

Great vibe with this barbershop! Love the old school feel and had a great experience with Danny. She gives a great haircut and her customer service is fantastic. Can’t imagine going anywhere else for my next haircut!

New to Dallas and was told Alton's Old School was the place to go. Daunya has cut my hair a few times and the results are great.

Last time in I asked her to leave it fuller, but at the end it seemed shorter than I wanted. But Daunya said when I shampooed it, it would look fuller ... and whaddya know, she was right! That said, we'll leave it just a tad fuller next time.

But overall this is possibly the best haircut I've had in my entire adult life. It feels good. It looks good.

Bottomline: If you want a friendly professional cutting your hair who cares about what you want and can deliver that, you can't do better than Alton's. Thanks, Daunya!

Found a new place and a new barber. Kevin was fast and I have a great haircut. You won't go wrong getting anyone else all the haircuts I saw while getting mine were great

Jonathan was amazing, felt like he really cared about what he was doing. One of the best haircuts I have ever had. I will be coming back for sure! I would recommend him to anyone that needs a haircut in Dallas.

If you're looking for a barbershop to call home for years to come, this is definitely your place. I've been come to Mike since 2015 and before that since 2013 to the shop where I bounced around a few barbers before landing on him. All of the barbers they have are top quality so you won't be disappointed. It's always a chill vibe, normally a movie on, and good conversation.

As I was coming on to write a review after getting my haircut this morning, I noticed a few recent negative reviews that as a long time patron I felt compelled to address, albeit wasn't expecting see from my experience here...

One of them looked like it was from a guy causing commotion this morning in and around the shop. I was waiting outside for my appointment and overhead this guy hitting on one of the female barbers in a very sleazy way and then when I went in he was griping at the owner Mike about not taking him as a walk-in even though the guy made an appointment for a different day. I was around when all this was happening and definitely didn't hear any of that other stuff contained in the review. I've come in on the wrong day before too so I get it, but it's not the barbershops fault, and they send at least 3-4 notifications prior to your appointment letting you know it's coming up, reconfirming the date/time, and asking you to confirm you'll still make it.

I can tell you that you need to make appointments well in advance of the day you want your haircut because they have a deep clientele who have been coming to this place and the respective barbers for a long time. Most of whom book their next appointment as they are laving the current one.

Also, this is one of the most diverse and tolerant barbershops you will find who do quite a bit to give back to the local community, primarily for kids and the less fortunate. The thing I appreciate about Alton's is that it's not a barbershop that's an echo chamber of view points, it's a place where you can have conversations about anything under the sun. These are the reasons I've been a patron for most of the last decade.

As someone who calls Alton's barbershop home, I can't stand for people disparaging a quality family owned establishment, especially one that has made it through this lockdown to come out on the other side, still employ it quality staff, and serve it's long time clients as well as the community it sit's within.

I searched for months for a great barbershop in Dallas since moving from South Florida. Morgan and Mike are by far the best barbers I have ever had my hair cut by. My hair isn’t easy to cut and I change my style and mind all the time. I am here almost weekly and couldn’t feel more welcome (I was driving almost 45 min to an hour just to get here). Definitely recommend for you to check them out.

I booked an appointment on the recommendation from a friend in the business. She said I would like the "vibe" and she is right. If The Sons of Anarchy had a barber shop it might look and feel like Alton's. There is an old school approach with straight razor shaves, warm towels and super cool vintage barber chairs that are as comfortable as sitting in a vintage Ford Galaxy 500 and way more comfy that the modern version you see at the chain places. The music was cool but might benefit from adding some vintage metal into the rap dominated mix. They have local beer on tap which is a nice treat. The place is owned by some local barbering vets and it shows. She shop is in one of Dallas' trendier neighborhoods that is rapidly gentrifying. So Alton's is cool, you get a great haircut and shave and the prices are reasonable. Oh and they don't twist your arm to buy product which is nice as well. I plan on returning.

I’ve had my undercut for 6 years and it hasn’t looked this good since my initial cut. I’ve always felt intimidated going to barbershops but Daunya was super welcoming and understood exactly what I wanted. I feel amazing and am definitely coming back.
