I feel like I found the greatest gem in Washington. Was glad to come on a quiet fall Saturday evening when the village was closed. We truly felt lost in time. Roger was an amazing host and minstrel. The food and ale/cider was incredibly delicious. I was an English history major at UW 30 years ago so this is clearly my style, yet little did I know this incredible slice of historic English countryside has been in my backyard for all of these years. It was a magical experience and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful, unique dining experience.

Magical experience!!! The food was fantastic and unlike any I’ve had at other restaurants, and I was amazed at how well Roger the innkeeper stayed in character the whole time. It really was like stepping back in time. Prices were also VERY reasonable for how much of a production the whole thing was. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and will definitely be back!

Amazing time and experience. Was able to find this gem close by and went with the family. Food was excellent, ambience was great and drinks were delicious. Even the kid who is picking enjoyed the fruit and cheese plate. The bread was to die for. Roger was a great minstrel and inn keep. Would definitely come back and bring friends and family.

A experience not to be missed; the food and drink options were extremely tasty, sounded authentic, and definitely different from everyday, 21st century fare; the periodic atmosphere even included tin cups; And the friendly proprietor provided entertainment during the meal in the form of song and riddle.

Had the opportunity to visit Bors Hede last night, and it was an absolutely great experience. From the moment you walk in the ambiance and atmosphere of the venue is 14th century England. The service was also excellent. the food they offer is traditional food from England during the 14th century. The Meade was also great. Definitely a must try.

Extremely impressed! This is the work of people who are extremely passionate about what they do - and I say this as someone who grew up in Europe and was exposed to medieval stuff since I was a kid.
We ate in on a Friday night, so the village was closed.
The Bors Hede is an absolute gem, and the food served is absolutely delicious. A lot (but not all) of the recipes are from royalty/nobility "cookbooks" (cinnamon and sugar! Not for your 14th century peasant!), and it is _very_ tasty. The flavors are unique. I did end up buying the cookbook - some of the combinations are extremely well done, and I really want to replicate some of this at home!
The minstrel is the cherry on top. Lots of research and passion - it was a delight to listen to the tunes. Such an authentic "medieval inn" experience. Will definitely be back soon!

Be prepared for a life altering experience. Check out their website before visiting to better understand how to prepare and what it's all about. Lunch is served from noon-3pm, then dinner at 5pm, so plan accordingly. I think lunch is drop in but dinner is reservation only.

Authenticity to the nines.
- You don't get a menu, the keeper of the inn tells you what's available for the night.
- They don't have soda pop, they have a good variety of wines, ales, meads, and spiced grape juice if you prefer something non alcoholic.
- You get a number of courses during the evening. The meat and cheese and fruit plate was my personal favorite.
- The deserts are not super sweat. They really cook from medieval recipes, sugar was a luxury.
- The dinning room has a big open fireplace with a fire going.
- The tableware is either pewter or stoneware that I imagine is made in the village.
- During dinner there was a minstrel who sang three songs.

All of these things add up to a very authentic experience. If you're not ready to take a step back in time and enjoy the excursion into the middle ages, maybe take a chance or take a pass. But if you are looking for a bit of fun and something other than the norm, be sure to visit. I will try to attend one of their feasts in the future, All Hallows or Yule would be fun!

Update: I got to participate in their Yule feast and it was fantastic. The food was wonderful, roast onion, pears and cheese, sauced pork, almond fritters, meat pies, I'm salivating now just thinking of it all. You get a lot of food over the course of 2 hours and they had a jester and minstrels for entertainment. It's a great way to sample many dishes and enjoy a meal with friends, family, or go solo and take it all in!

Such a quaint little gem! The atmosphere, intimate small group setting, great music and delicious food was well worth it. Highly recommend and look forward to going in the spring time to explore the grounds.

This was such an amazing experience. Roger was our waiter, host, and entertainment and he too was amazing. I highly recommend this place to everyone. The food was outstanding, the ambience and the music. Bors Hede deserves to be known to the world.

The food here is absolutely incredible! Most people have the idea that medieval food is bland and uninteresting, but visiting this place for a meal will teach you otherwise. Our group was so impressed with the food that after we'd finished our meal, we bought two copies of the cookbook! The cookbook is just like the place itself: full of delicious food and TONS of historical information for those who want to learn more about the food of past eras and some of the reasons behind the use of different spices and ingredients.
If the incredible food isn't enough to entice you to visit, the staff might! Everyone working at the Bors Hede restaurant is in character, making it feel like you have actually stepped back in time. The servers are there with songs, stories, and poems to entertain you while you eat, and the performances are spot on and very enjoyable.
There are a few things you should keep in mind when you plan your visit. Guests don't have to be in medieval garb to visit, obviously, but they do prefer if you don't bring out your camera every five minutes or talk on your cell phone while you're there. I doubt they'd kick anyone out, but they do want to maintain an atmosphere as close to historical accuracy as they can. It's probably not a place to visit and take tons of pictures of your food and ask the servers to take photos of you and your friends.
One other note: in keeping with historical reality, most of the food your order arrives on a 'trencher' rather than a plate and is eaten with your hands rather than a full complement of modern utensils. The server brings out a pitcher of water and a bowl to wash your hands before you eat, but if you're if you're a paranoid germophobe like me, you might want to insist your friends visit the bathrooms to wash with soap and water before your share your foods with them. It's not a big deal, especially if you don't go the family-style route like we did and therefore keep your cooties to yourself, but it's something that might throw you off if you're not prepared ahead of time.

We went only for a dinner during the week.

Having no idea what to expect, we had a very pleasant evening. The place felt authentic from end to end. What was worn, how things were decorated, the buildings, the gardens, etc.

The food was interesting. Sort-of expected, sort-of not. We enjoyed everything though.

The waiter was extremely kind and talented. Very attentive.

We would likely come again in the future.

Easily in my top 3 meals I've ever had in my life. Food is amazing and I love the dedication to the authenticity of the entire experience. I cannot wait to go again and again and again. Prices are beyond incredibly reasonable given the experience. It's now been 2 days since I ate there, and I have lost count how many times I've thought about that meal. 😍

My family and I went here on a Sunday evening to celebrate my birthday. We were the only people in the restaurant, but it was just amazing. The "server" is also a minstrel and he played us 4 songs over the course of the meal. He had a wonderful voice and was very talented.

The food was amazing! They served us 3 separate courses, the last of which were the actual dishes we ordered. The middle course was a variety of craft cheeses, some sort of amazingly fresh lettuce with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, and some fritters and fruit. Wow, just wow. The middle dish tasted like they just plucked the lettuce out of their garden.

There are so many neat elements to this experience. They allow you to wash your hands at the table before the meal by pouring water from a pitcher over your hands. Your hands are over a pottery bowl, so there's no mess. They serve food on a bread "plate". I don't want to give it all away, so I won't tell any more. Just go and be happy!

We had dinner Wednesday night at the tavern and Roger was the innkeeper taking care of us. He was awesome, we didn't know what to order, so he suggested that we get "the cook's platter" and everything was great. We ate everything and left feeling stuffed and satisfied. I'd highly recommend Bors Hede for anyone who appreciate a little role play and /or medieval history. You can wear some peasant garb to really immerse yourself!

A Senior Group came to this enchanted place on a Mystery Trip. No would guest the location. We laughed, enjoyed the sining minstrel with a great voice and good verse. The food was good and it was served on our bread plate as it would have been in 1576 (may have the date wrong). An Adventure to be sure. Food was made fresh. NO FORKS! Good Mead and Ale. Do not be in a hurry. Enjoy the experience.

Loved the experience and it was quite reasonable considering the high quality of the food and novelty of it's environment. By the end of the meal all of the households represented in our party bought the offered book of cookery and talked about the meal for the rest of the evening. Our host was the proprietor and was very friendly and committed to the theme and played a darn fine lute tune to boot. I would desperately love to run a D&D campaign there.

This place is amazing! The food is perfect! Eaten on bread as a plate.. it's very fun eating here the man who runs this place clearly loves what he does. I asked to got to the "bathroom" he giggled a little because he got to respond " we do not have bathing houses here if you want there is a bathing house up the road.. but we do have a privvey" he couldn't contain him self. We got a laugh at it too. The mead was good and he played music while the food was being prepared and while we ate. The entire hall was dark and lit by candles and the fire place. It was valentine's day last we visited and we will be going again this valentine's as well. I can't say enough good things about this place.. the cost of diner was so inexpensive I was completely thrown off so I tipped him what I'd normally tip at a restaurant for good service plus the rest of what we'd usually pay at a super fancy restaurant. Anyway go here it's totally worth it.
