I really cool hidden gem in Alabama. The neversink pit is a 16 story sinkhole hidden on the side of a mountain.

The hike to the pit is short but a little on the strenuous side. You can complete the entire hike in about 40 minutes round trip.

The sinkhole itself has tethers for repelling and climbing, but I didn't have the skill or equipment to do that part. Fear a climber though I imagine it would be insanely cool.

We made reservations online but no one checked either way. The hike is a little steep but it’s only about a mile to the pit. It’s absolutely beautiful. It was raining so we didn’t get too close to the edge. The parking is fairly limited but honestly it’s worth a visit

Permit required, be careful around the edge; it’s a long way down. Amazing and beautiful cave formation with small waterfall.

Very impressive hole.. it made me feel uncomfortable when I sat at the edge of the abyss, even though I'm a rock climber. I'll rappel there next time 😉

Permit required, and no cell service at the trailhead at least for me. Ticks were super bad, and trail is poorly marked. Leary of having kids near it. No safety elements, not recommended for kids.

This is about a 2 mile hike round trip. Some steep sections and slippery rocks. I was glad I brought a hiking pole. A permit is required.

I had the pleasure of coming here at 17 with the love-of-my-high-school-life (lol)! It was almost like a spiritual experience - I had never felt so peaceful or serene in nature before. It was (& hopefully still is!) pristine, pure, virgin, natural, gorgeous, untouched, et cetera.

Madonna's "Like A Virgin" was written about Neversink Pit. She just won't admit it... Lol j/k

Less than a mile walk. Mostly uphill towards the pit. Definitely worth visiting!! It says you need a permit to park (which is free) but no one came by to check.

A permit is required but it is worth it. We were speechless. We visited during the summer so watch for snakes!!! We saw five on the hike up.
