Shorty Machen Grocery Store

Absolutely the best little grocery store in town. I’ve been going to Shorty’s store since I was a kid and I have fond memories of the place. They have great burgers and fries. I miss living in Hollywood but I still stop by there to get me some food at Shorty’s sometimes and it never disappoints.

What a hidden gem. This place offers great food and good service. It's definitely a word of mouth establishment and local favorite. It is off the beaten path, but it is worth it. Check your times, and they are on a limited schedule. They are open for breakfast and lunch until 2 pm and extended evening hours on Fridays.

If you ever find yourself in Hollywood, AL, get by Shorty Machen Grocery Store for a cheeseburger! Their sweet potato fries are quite possibly the best I've had. There's not much of a store there anymore. They had to take down shelves to add more tables.

Down home folks with one of the best cheeseburgers you'll ever eat. A must visit if in the area and well worth the drive!

Today was my first time at Shorty's and I Love it!! The cheeseburger was amazing and Shorty's wife is the sweetest!

Got a cheese burger and fries, really good, reminded me of the ones you could get as a kid. Like at the old walk up and order cafe’s. I would recommend.

Was invited by a good friend who has been introducing me to the best of Jackson County eatery’s. I have to say by far this is one of the greatest cheeseburgers I’ve had in forever. The folks who run this place are super friendly and the atmosphere is a time remembered and never forgotten. Another jewel in the area. Do not hesitate to try this place. There’s a reason these folks have a long line of positive reviews.

Best hamburgers around with a clasic county diner atmosphere

Ever seen the movie my cousin Vinny? We jokingly call this the sack of suds.
This is the definition of a mom and pop store. Great hand made burgers. We make it a point to eat here if in town for work. They are slow, you won't get it fast so plan accordingly. That isn't a problem if you know that going in and everyone just accepts it. Great little joint with great home made burgers.

Food is very good with friendly staff. Prices are decent. The building is an old rustic gas station which I love to see old places like these still being used instead of being torn down or falling down. Definitely worth visiting. Keep up the good work.

As you walk in the door, a feeling of being back in time comes over you. Back in the day it was a country store with gas pumps. Well it continues to be a very busy spot. Now it serves the best hamburgers & french fries around. The menu has many choices. I can recommend the hamburger steak. It was so good. Very generous portions. Prices good. Cooked fresh when order is placed, so be prepared for a little wait. It is worth it for sure. We will be back.

Okay so, shorty and his wife are the best people. And their food is AMAZING too! Me and my boyfriend go all the time for their breakfast sandwiches. He ventures out sometimes and gets the BBQ and burgers they have and he loves them. Sometimes he even orders 2-3 sandwiches so he can take some home to have on hand for later! We seriously love this place. 10/10 recommend. Great people, great food. The store is even very vintage and will have you feeling like you're definitely in Alabama. I mean honestly expect freshness when you eat here. Expect to be treated kindly. And expect to be content afterwards. I promise you they never disappoint.

Great out of the way place. When you step in the door, a feeling of days gone by comes over you. The food is very good. We had hamburger steaks, comes with small salad & fries. Mushrooms & onions topped hamburger steak. We will be back. Very reasonably priced.

A classic, country store feel that’s obviously a local favorite. The folks that run the place treat you like a local and are very nice. I’ve had the hamburger and the Johnny Mack - a thick cut bologna sandwich. Recommended!

A lovely back in time store with friendly staff. And cook to order menu. Highly recommend the burgers!!! the BLTs are awesome as well, I get mine with cheese which is the only way, simply Delicious!

No better way to define it but quaint & welcoming. From the time you walk in the door until the time you walk out, you feel like you've gone back to a simple time. The food was great.... big portions & homemade quality. You'll never know the place was there unless you're looking for it or referred there, but it's definitely worth a stop if you're nearby

Good okra!! Cheese burger also tasty. Maybe a little slow food delivery but it was tasty! Old building with grill, convenience store, gas station all in one.

found it on a chance, best burgers ive had..... in probably ever... crisp fries... we were obviously out of towners , but every one was friendly and welcoming..
