I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Original Del’s Popcorn Shop in downtown Decatur, IL, and it was an experience I’ll cherish forever. Hailing from Florida, I didn’t expect to stumble upon such a historic gem. The moment I approached the shop, I was greeted by the irresistible aroma of freshly popped popcorn, instantly transporting me back to simpler times.

The iconic sign, reading “Del’s Popcorn Shop,” holds a story in itself, dating back to 1934 when it was originally “The Popcorn Shop.” The modest change to “Del’s” on the sign is a nod to its rich history, and it’s amazing to see this legacy preserved over the decades.

Stepping inside was like entering a delightful time capsule. The store is filled with nostalgic candy, reminiscent of childhood days and memories of my mother’s youth. From candy apples and peanut brittle to peppermint bark, the selection of seasonal treats is exquisite. And of course, their gourmet popcorn, truffles, and assorted chocolates are the stars of the show – each bite a testament to their commitment to quality and flavor.

What truly sets The Original Del’s apart is the atmosphere – it’s not just a store, but a place that keeps the child within you alive and beaming. The staff are the heart of this shop, always ready with a smile and eager to enhance your experience. Their fun and friendly nature made my visit all the more special.

As if the array of treats wasn’t enough, they also offer homemade root beer, perfect for a nostalgic root beer float! And for those looking for the perfect gift, Del’s has an array of beautifully curated gift boxes that are sure to delight.

I also visited another Del’s store in Mt. Zion, but it simply doesn’t compare to the charm and authenticity of The Original Del’s Popcorn Shop. My visit here was more than just indulging in sweet and savory treats; it was about experiencing a piece of delicious history. Thank you, Del’s, for sharing this wonderful piece of Decatur’s heritage with me.

I received 2 double dipped plain caramel apples, 2 double dipped caramel apples with nuts, and a couple of varieties of their popcorn as a house warming gift from my neighbor. I immediately fell in love! The apples are crisp and firm, while the gooey caramel was perfectly flavored. They are hands down the tastiest caramel apples I have ever tasted. The popcorn was also delicious, with the caramel Kettle corn being sweet without being cloying, giving a satisfying crunch with each bite. The Cheddar corn was also tasty, without the Cheddar powder being over or under done.

I just have returned home from my first visit, and the shop is warm and inviting, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the product... Well, let's just say that I may have gone a little overboard, lol. Sincerely a Decatur treasure!

Cool, old school style confectionery/pop corn store in downtown Decatur on North Merchant Street. Love this specialty shop and its early look sign, brick exterior and beautiful interior look. They have a great selection from popcorn, fudge, and many other sweet selections. Many items are here that would make nice birthday, anniversary, valentines or any other occasion gifts. A very nice shop, with courteous and attentive employees.

A friend of mine was traveling and visited downtown Decatur, Illinois. He had stopped at a historic landmark, a popcorn shop dating back to 1932 called Del's Popcorn shop. He was so impressed with their yummy treats. He sent me this delicious gift basket.Packed with delicious treats like gourmet popcorn and assorted truffles. Too bad we just missed the caramel apple season.

I hope to try the chocolate strawberries when I visit soon 😌😊

Always great to stop in this old place and pick up some popcorn and other treats. Family has been coming here since they have been open. Even though I am generations beyond and have moved out of town... I always come back home and make sure to stop in at Del's!!

Del's never disappoints! I've been coming here for over 50 years, since I was a little girl. Still love the smells, the variety, the friendliness of the staff and the memories from when my grandpa took me for the first time. I drive over an hour to get to Del's and it is always worth it!

I've been going to Dells since 1950s and the sad thing is the sign has finally faded an burnt out but it still doesn't stop us every year at Christmas time we meet at Dells for family photo family tradition still running strong.

Awesome candy, popcorn and candy selection at reasonable prices. If you’re in Decatur you have to stop and walk downtown so might as well grab some goodies as you sight see.

I love the taste of the different flavors of popcorn, different varieties of ice cream, and the types of candy available at this store. The people who work there are very friendly, know a lot about the products they sell and are willing to help make gift bags and gift boxes.

The smell when you walk in is amazing! Perfect place to grab a quick salty/sweet snack or a gift. Love popping in here.

Prices are on higher side. But good all in all...

This place was BUSY with holiday shoppers and all kinds of folks asking for more and more. Some staff seemed irritated, but justified. They all spoke nicely and worked as quickly as they could. Don't usually frequent this location, but I may now.

I'm so happy this place is so close and has so many candies I enjoyed as a kid! The smell of fresh popped popcorn comes right at you when you enter. It's pretty hard to be in a bad mood here with all the smells of my youth twirling around everywhere.

It's fall and that means the best caramel apples around!!

You can't beat Del's for Popcorn but ICE CREAM?? YES, PLEASE!! They have the most unique flavors, novelties, and everything fun! It's a great experience no matter what the reason!

Very Clean, incompliance with Covid mask mandate. Prices are more than fair. And ice cream flight was amazing. Highly recommend stopping in Downtown.
