We stayed here at the beginning of July and were impressed by the cleanliness, spacious RV spaces and general tranquility. The cabins give the feeling of a vintage 1970s summer camp which was charming. It was also a very easy 20 minute drive to Lava Beds National Monument which make it the perfect campground to explore the park.

Great place to stay, we were here for the first week in June. Had 3 nights tent camping, then 1 night in a nice cabin due to a freak hailstorm. Pam made sure we were well taken care of. Can't wait to go back. Have to add that the restroom/shower facilities were the best I ever had at a campground.

This place is out of the way for a reason. It's clean and relaxing, just what you need to get away from it all. You're close to the Caverns and the lakes. If you're into bird watching there's a ton to see. The owner is kind and more than willing to guide you in the right spot. We spent three days with the family and met some really nice people. Our six year old had a blast in nature and not on his video games. That counts as a win parents. We will return again.

on our way home we found by "accident" this campground. We were looking for the one next door. That was by far the best accident we could have. Hawks nest is exactly the right mix out of luxury (full 50 amp hookup, nice big, level, easy in and out sides ) and nature (in the woods ,quite and beautiful) friendly camp host, we stayed here the end of March and they open April 15, no big deal, you are welcome anyway! Definitely big rig friendly! Thanks for the nice stay!

This small campground is far enough away from the main highway so you don't hear any traffic. The sites are spacious and clean. There are picnic tables and even chairs scattered around for seating. The sites are nested in trees for a true camping experience. It is very quiet, we sat outside and listened to the birds and even got to see deer come down from the mountain. The pads are gravel and pretty level. The host is very nice and accommodating. The store has a few supplies should you need something.

This campground is nestled away from the highway boasting a lot of great amenities such as bathrooms, showers, laundry service, cabins, RV parking, and tent campsites. You can pay when you get there or reserve your spot online. The attendant is very nice and helped us with a late check in (9pm). If you're tent camping, I recommend something to put your tent on as the area is dirt, rocks, ans pine needles. There is a new playground for kids and a small shop in the office.

My family and I stayed at Hawk's Nest over the Labor Day weekend this year. We were greeted warmly by the owner and personally shown to our cabin and RV site. The owner completed the hook up and ensured that the cabin was to our satisfaction before leaving us to settle in.
Later that evening we were welcomed to join in a camp fire with the owners, their family and other guests of the park. The camp fire was a huge success and we all enjoyed some smores.
The cabin we stayed in was clean, the beds comfortable and had everything you would need to cook meals. Did not have a microwave but hey just reheat on the stove, it's part of the camping adventure.
The bathroom amenities were clean and the water wonderfully hot on a cold mountain morning.
Can't say enough about the wonderful hospitality of the owner and his family, always checking in to make sure that your stay is going well and asking if can provide anything.
The park was great for kids to play safely in the playground or ride their bikes around without needing to be on constant alert.
Would very much recommend this camp ground to anyone looking to get away from everyday life but still have the comforts of home.
Looking forward to planning another family vacation there. Thanks for hosting our weekend.

A total get away! The cabins are very rustic, so when reading reviews know that they aren't anything close to luxury accommodations. But. it was exactly what we were looking for to spend 5 fantastic nights away from it all in and near Lava Beds NM without having to pack camping gear. The people are wonderful. Sunsets are beautiful. It is quiet. My daughter spent the evening catching (and releasing) tree frogs with a little boy in the campground. The are lots of critters around, and some of them made their way into the cabin... really, one step above camping, but charming and memorable. I didn't want to go home.

We stopped for the night during a cross country trip. The cabins were definitely no frills and basic but had everything we needed. The cabins were pet friendly and extremely clean. I cannot say enough about the hospitality of the staff. We will definitely stay again if passing through the area.

I was planning a trip to the area for an Antelope hunt in Zone 2 when I located The Hawks Nest on the web. I spent 4 days at the Hawks Nest and could not be happier. Very clean, great location and the most helpful staff you will ever find at a camp ground. I rented one of the cabins and was very impressed with how comfortable it made my trip. Every effort is made to keep the grounds clean and in perfect working order. If you are in the area on a hunt or sightseeing trip, this is the place to stay. Very very nice campground.

We found it by mistake. We ended up booking online and staying the night there. I love this place. The owners are so nice and the cabin was great, clean and not expensive and very quiet and claim vibe.

We have camped about 10 times in various places and this one is the best one we ever have. Great facilities: hot water, flush toilet, free fire pit, free wifi and everything at a pretty nice price. The admins are super friendly and they provided things to make our trip super comfortable including tent tools and barbecue grill. Highly recommended!

Very well maintained. Exelent staff. Very accommodating. Decent WiFi. Story tjme
We were only there one night, only cost 15$ because the shower wasn't hot. (in there Heated bathrooms) and Miguel, one of the owners build us a little bonfire, Aswell as a cooking fire so we could make some dinner. They also recommended some great spots nearby. They had cabins, RV spots and a tent site. Even the other guests were nice. 5 stars is too few.
If I'm ever traveling in that area again I will be sure to camp there again

There's a lot of wildlife that comes in the park such as deer wild turkey quail just a all around great place . It's our home away from home . We could never say enough about how great the owners have been to us. We will see you Fred & Lisa in May.

My 14 year old son and I stayed at Hawk's Nest for three nights and had a great time. The facilities are very clean, the hosts go out of their way to make sure you are happy with your site and the campground is located a couple miles from Hwy 139 so that all you hear at night are the crickets. If you’re looking for close proximity to Medicine Lake, Glass Mountain and the Lava Beds, you can’t beat this location.

Great place to stay. We have a 38 ft motor home towing a 10 ft toy hauler. Lots of room . Easy access to a great spot in the woods. Family that run the park are great. Would definitely recommend this spot.

I have stayed at Hawk's Nest three times now, and can't wait to go back. If you are visiting Lava Beds National Monument, Glass Mountain at Medicine Lake Volcano, or just sight-seeing in the area, this little undiscovered place can't be beat.

If you like visiting volcanoes, Hawk's Nest is at the foot of Medicine Lake volcano and you can see a major lava flow down the side of the mountain from the campground entrance - when the light is right (early morning - afternoon the flow is in the shade of the mountain and not quite so visible because of that).

The place is clean, well-kept, and the staff is friendly. What more could you ask for?

Oh yes. The RV pull-through sites are white gravel - and mixed in with this gravel are small pieces of obsidian!!

Only drawback (not really a drawback if one comes prepared) is that groceries and gasoline are about 20 miles away.

I give it Five Stars.

Rhonda was amazing! I booked through Hip Camp and turns out....the campground is closed until April! However Rhonda let me park my RV anyway and my pup and I were safe and warm for the night!

The owners of this cozy sanctuary are super hospitable! The natural beauty of the surroundings, partnered with the quiet, peaceful environment, made it an oasis on our long hot trip. It's an perfect stop along anyone's journey.

On our way south in a 5th wheel. Going to be in the low teen's so wanted to plug in for the night. Beautiful country, proprietor right there to greet us, 50 amount hook up, spotlessly clean bathroom, all for $35. This time of year there were plenty of open spaces (Nov 1). We would definitely stop here again.
