VCU Medical Center's Patient and Visitor Parking Deck

Tight to maneuver but plenty of spaces. Validation available at several information desks on the campus. Clinic locations can be confusing but digital maps are now available to help you find your way. I plan to use the digital map on my next visit.

This has to be the worst parking deck design I’ve ever encountered. The spots are all compact width so everyone parks over the line and wastes spaces. There’s no room to pass, so one slow driver holds up all 8 floors. Compounding the problem, there’s only one entrance and exit so you have to drive down all 8 floors every time. To cap it all off, this is the parking for labor and delivery which only has 4 reserved spots that are always taken (dozens of unused valet and police spots though). If you’re in labor and in a hurry, it’s hell. If you’re in a hurry for any other hospital related reason, it is also hell. You also get to pay for this privilege and there’s trash everywhere.

EDIT: Today someone hit and run sideswiped my wifes car in the parking deck. There are no cameras.

EDIT EDIT: now one elevator is broken and the stairs are slippery and covered in water. Did I mention that this is a hospital parking deck for patients who just had a baby or surgery?

Spaces are tiny. Trash all over. Double parked cars should be ticketed. Elevators are always out of order. Smells. Occasionally there's someone direction traffic to which lot but they always carry a nasty attitude.
