Hoop Pole Creek Nature Trail

Great short, kid-friendly trail that ends at the sound waters edge. The marsh section was unwalkable but you don't have to go that way. Cool live oak trees for climbing along the way. Perfect walk on a mild, mid-march day. I can see how it would be insanely buggy in summer though but we had no problems.

My favorite part about this was all the fun we had with the kids. You see - we're Shel Silverstein fans, and one of our favorites is the Runny Babbit book - if you don't know, the premise is: a bunny rabbit lives in the woods where everyone swaps the first sounds of words - hence bunny rabbit becomes runny babbit.... well - Hoop Pole Creek... AHhaha - the laughs were endless

Gorgeous trail. I love how enclosed and surrounded by nature it feels. So many beautiful trees and waterfront views.

Great short trail with fantastic views of the sound at the end. The beginning is a board walk so it is great for small kids. Towards the end it turns to a sand trail and some of the trail was very wet. This is to be expected since the trail is basically IN the sound.

Really secluded trail in the heart of Havelock. It takes you back in time to when this area was beautiful, calm, swampland with beautiful plants. As natural as it can be! Short, enjoyable walk with a great ending at the river! A gem hidden in the middle of town!

beautiful place for a walk. first time we came was in the afternoon and some crabs had gone up to the shore to eat. was a beautiful site so we came back the next day around 10 only to be chased by biting flies ? had to run out of there. fairly easy path on raised wood platform

Hoop Pole Creek Nature Trail is a 1-mile round-trip hike through the only remaining maritime forest left in Atlantic Beach. The property was protected by the NC Coastal Federation to prevent development and preserve this endangered habitat on Bogue Banks. We took our dog for a hike here while visiting Atlantic Beach. The trail is a mix of boardwalks and paved trail and leads to views of a salt marsh and the estuary where Hoop Pole Creek flows into Bogue Sound. We visited in winter, I imagine the bugs could get bad in the summer. A beautiful area and worth a visit to get away from crowds at the beach.

Beautiful nature walk. Easy walk, BUT TAKE BUG SPRAY! Still, definitely worth the time.

Great place for photography, but use lots of bug spray!
