Vango/Abby Memorial Hostel

One of the most interesting days I had on the trail. It was pissing down rain on us all day and we see the sign for the side trail and decide to head here. The whole arriving here had us feeling a little sketchy, the hostel was listed as several different names in the guides and apps, and limited information was available about this place. It turns out it had a recent name change in honor of the previous trail Angel and his dog. Later, a strange old man dropped by and gave us some trail magic without saying anything. It was later to be revealed the old man was Nimblewill Nomad. We spent the evening having a couple beers and using the hot tub. It was one of those beautiful days where the world flows and everything unfolds itself before you.

Scotty shuttled 3 of us to the trail head at Hughes Gap. He gave us some history and good advice for the hike. Super reasonable rate for the shuttle. We did not call ahead but I recommend doing so. He accommodated us even though we did not call so he's five star for sure. Plus he kept our car for us while we hiked. His place is right off the trail. Private and safe area plus I spotted a hot tub. We did not use it but next time we will. Thank you so much Scotty! 3 hikers from IL

Stopped here for lunch and spoke with the owner, an older gentleman, who plays the piano beautifully. Very peaceful atmosphere while I was there. Wifi hours 20:00-22:00 & 2:00-8:00, pizza $5, Ben & Jerry's $5, tuna $1, eggs 3/$1.. reasonable prices. .3 miles from appalachian trail

The Vango/Abby Hostel is closed as of 2023.

Currently not open -- call before you go. But beautiful location and area
