Loved it. Did the hike from Ferry Road to 101 and back, about 5 1/2 miles. Nice clear trail. Good foot bridges. Clear, visable blazes too; orange. We did bring our dog. Good hike for those just starting or trying to get back into hiking.

A good trail for a simple long calorie burning hike. Not the greatest for a nature hike, the brush on either side of the trail stands too tall to enjoy seeing anything but the tops of trees. Birds are used to people walking the trail and will not flee when they hear or see you get within a reasonable distance. Not many other types of animals are visible due to the dense nature of the croatan forest. Very muddy in the rain season, I recommend hiking boots over any other type of footwear. Their are several bridges that are on the trail to help cross streams and small bodies of water. These bridges are extremely slippery when wet, I would recommend taking your time on these. Overall, it is a good trail for walking off a mid day meal.

Beautiful 20+ mile trail through Croatan National Forest with options for shorter hikes! Portions are still recovering from storm damage. Some areas prone to flooding. If it’s not winter there will be mosquitoes and ticks are year round — be prepared and enjoy! As always, leave it better than you found it — leave no trace and don’t pass trash. Pick up and pack out. Water is no longer available at shelters at this time — again, be prepared.

Awesome hiking Remember to wear orange during hunting season. Bugs can be bad in summer.

Great overnight hike for me and the wife! Camped at the Dogwood Shelter. Water jugs weren't filled so not sure if pump was working or not, carry in water to be safe. Beautiful weather, lots of nature, truly relaxing.
