The String Bean

Cool vibe place in Belmont NC (food scene is gaining momentum btw). It’s a butcher, seafood, wine store with a restaurant as well. You can order from menu or select from the butcher / seafood cases. Got there at about 7:30 on a Saturday and found one open table 😎. Waiter Adam was right there and very helpful. Had the cowpig burger with eggplant fries and my date had the Ruben - both really good - actually far better than I was expecting ! My wife is a Reuben expert and she gave a solid thumbs up. Recommend checking it out - try for lunch or dinner.

Had a delightful experience here. The staff was very amazing helpful knowledgeable and good at setting expectations. I showed up without a reservation on a Saturday night, and the hostess handled it wonderfully laying out my options, they had plenty. I chose to sit at the community open table that had a fire. I think this was a brilliant idea and applauded them on their creativity. Our server was wonderful I wish I could remember her name to give her a shout out. Failure on my part. The menu looked amazing ordered the tuna taco special with Brussels and my friend got a turkey sandwich with duck fat fries. You can tell the kitchen there takes great pride in what they do. The only shock of the night was the bill which was a lot less than I thought it would be. I have heard rumors of people eating there multiple times a week and I can see why, nothing beats responsibly priced delicious food.

Absolutely terrific experience. Amazing food with amazing atmosphere and terrific service. Shrimp & Grits were the best I've ever had. Definitely coming back in the future.

I was visiting a long time friend in Shelby Nc and we stopped at The string bean for brunch. We had the mussels to start with a grilled Caesar salad and red wine! All amazing ! I will definitely come back . Great service, food and ambiance.

Went out for dinner at The String Bean. What a great place To go hang out for drinks and a snack or dinner with family and friends. I would say the place has great atmosphere. The design and decor were cool and laid back. A must for everyone to try. We had our dinner on the patio where they had nice lighting and cool music, what a vibe! No liquor license, But the best beer and wine selection I have seen in any restaurant. It is better than the wine shops, plenty of beer or wine you can buy and take home. She had the Crab stuffed Trout with vegetables. I got a bone in Pork chop and the eggplant fries. Wow they were amazing. The Trout was so good it melted in our mouths. The Pork chop was so juicy. They have a butcher shop inside with the best selection of meat and seafood you can get it to go. What a great place to spend the evening. This is one of our go to spots. Food is always good and never had bad service. We also took a big group here an the experience was wonderful. It was refreshing because I know some restaurants struggle with larger groups. We also had kids and the staff were so accommodating.

Very good food. Always consistently delicious and high quality. Love the selection of meals! It can be a little “pricey” (term used loosely) if you’re looking for something less expensive, maybe $12-$15 for a sandwich but it’s not too bad. Shown in the photos are the Italian Sandwich and the Chicken Salad Croissant. Both were delicious. Duck fat fries are amazing (not shown below). I got the tomato slices with salt and pepper as my side, and it was very good.

The servers and atmosphere was very nice. Food doesn’t take too long to come out. There is inside and outside seating, as well as a bar and alcohol/wine selection. Lots of alcohol to choose from. Definitely recommend coming here!

this is our most favorite place to eat. the food is always good and the service is always amazing. This is a great place to eat local and be in space where the staff and owners make it feel like home. It doesn't matter if you are doing dine in or take out, doing dinner, brunch or lunch, having drinks with a friend, or it's one of their special events, they are always on point.

Good eats at the String Bean! I was all ready to go for the cowpig burger until the server mentioned the specials. The coffee-rubbed lamb chops caught my attention and I was not disappointed!
We also had the duck fat fries and the boom boom shrimp as appetizers and both were terrific.
Food portions and flavor were excellent and we had a great time!
Highly recommend!

Nice fresh food. I checked out the ribeye in the case and order the size I wanted. Cooked to perfection.
Definitely will be back.

Such a great little spot to grab a variety of things…including a bottle of wine, a beautiful bright salad or duck fat fries (!)
Great service, attentive and friendly. It’s kind of like a deli but the menu is more extensive than most, also has a nice selection of alcoholic and non to choose from.

Chicken sandwich is awesome! Full chicken breast fried then sauces with Belmont hot. Big brioche bun with a light brushing of butter on top. Lettuce, tomato and pickles. And Chipotle ranch dressing to top it all off. Get the French fries and a cold beer to wash it all down. Great service and atmosphere. Also as a app the boom boom shrimp at a fret started. Shrimp are huge. Defiantly enough to share.

Staff was very attentive and knew the menu well. Our food at lunch time was hot & fabulous! We definitely had a take home box!

What a great spot. I feel like I've missed out for years not knowing about the String Bean. Great food and service. Cute retail area. We liked the fried pickles and drinks. The Red Cadillac burger is really interesting and equally delicious. My hubby loved the fried fish and we both upgraded to the duck fat fries. Not disappointed at all!

Had my first experience with The String Bean today and was not disappointed. Stopped over for lunch and got the Angry Cowpig with sweet potato fries. While the burger did have some spice, it was not too much. We were also able to enjoy some beer tasting from Lenny Boy. Will be back for sure!

The String Bean is located in downtown Belmont and has been a staple there since 2008. Great apps, “pies”, and drinks.

If you don’t have time to dine-in or want some high quality meat to cook at home, visit the butcher shop located inside.

We will definitely be back the next time we visit Belmont!

The String Bean is a Belmont staple and for all the right reasons. Food is great, service is awesome, beer and wine selection is best in downtown, pick your protein out of the case and cook to order.

My girlfriend and I very much enjoyed our 1st visit to the String Bean Cafe! We're from downtown Charlotte so just going 30 minutes to dine out says a lot about the recommendations that we got from our friends!
We were not disappointed at all! This is a unique place & difficult to describe. Let me emphasize the quality & variety of the food, excellent service, selection of beverages, etc first!
It's a blend of a general stove and top quality restaurant.. I took several pictures of the inside to help explain what I'm saying.
While there are no booths or romantic seating arrangements, the tables & chairs are basic, China and flatware are as well. Paper napkins, etc.. You get the picture..
With that said, the menu is amazing! They have items that I've never seen before! We tried several and LOVED EVERYTHING WE ORDERED! They have live Maine Lobster & other fresh seafood as well as various whole cuts of beef like Filet, Rib Eye, NY Strip, etc that can be cut to your request.
The servers are dressed casually yet perform the same as those found in very expensive restaurants. They are not college students but rather the age of other professionals only found in the finest restaurants.
We had a lot of food and drinks. Our bill was $103.00 and I tipped $38.00. Not quite 40% but I was going for a round number.
It's worth the drive from Charlotte to Belmont. I highly recommend this restaurant!

This place is a gem in downtown Belmont with a well-curated wine selection to please every palate and pocketbook. When I visit my family from CA I try to bring a bottle or two of good wine. When it inevitably runs out, I head to the String Bean where there is bottle service with their food, to drink on the patio, or to carry away. They have everything such as stellar cabs from Napa like Silver Oak, to regional Zinfandels such as Klinker Brick from Lodi. Always something interesting in the wide selection. The addition of Stone Fired Social pizza next door makes for a fun night out. Thanks to owner Chad and his friendly staff for maintaining this bright spot in Belmont for 15-plus years.

I had the lamb chops appetizer with a Caesar salad. Chops were tender and tasty. I have to say that the Caesar side salad is especially mentionable. The dressing is creamy and delicious and most likely house made. It was topped with fresh shaved parmesan but the big surprise ingredient was the diced tomatoes which took it to the next level of flavor! My daughter had the meatloaf which has a tangy tomato based sauce that is spot on! Both meals were delicious. They were very busy but our service was excellent.

In addition to the restaurant, the string bean has a butcher market with fresh meats and fish and a wide selection of beer and wines from around the world. In my opinion it is the best wine selection in Gaston county. I highly recommend The String Bean!
