I (23, female) went to Marshall Pickens after an attempt on my life six months ago. I have struggled with my mental health and ptsd since I was a child, and have been in and out of therapy and hospitalized twice as a result.
After being in a psychiatric unit in Virginia a year ago and receiving the awful level of care that I did, I must say that I actually received the help I truly needed. I got the diagnoses I’d been seeking and the medication that I needed. The wings were relatively small in patient numbers which allowed us to get the care we needed as well as form bonds with those around us. A huge plus, was having an outdoor area and activities to do outside of the hall. Per my last psychiatric visit in a different state, we had nothing of the sort and were in the same three rooms all day; versus here, where you were given and encouraged to have enrichment times outside of your room. Another massive difference from my last stay was having visiting hours where friends and family could come see you. Compared to my last time in a psychiatric unit, I felt like a human being in this hospital versus the one in my home state where I felt like a chore.
Staff were kind and ready to listen when wards needed someone. The technicians who work directly with patients all day on the unit were so kind and easy to talk to. My psychiatrists and doctors were incredibly kind and understanding, giving me the attention I needed and listening to my concerns. The activity leaders were absolutely amazing as well; Miss Amy in her particular made such a positive difference in my stay with her music therapy classes and outside of them with one on one therapy. Another plus was that my caseworkers were incredibly kind and involved throughout the entire process, letting me know that I have a personal advocate inside the hospital. I am truly grateful for the staff and the care they gave me.
My only complaint (and I think this can be said about any hospital facility in the USA) is that the food was not very nutritious or varied especially for those of us with dietary restrictions. But again, Marshall Pickens gave me a new chance at life with a new perspective and they helped put me on a positive path that I would have never considered for myself previously. Thank you to all the staff there: you made a difference in my life.

I had a very positive experience there after trying to commit suicide in 2019. They gave me a positive outlook and hope for my future. I took what the amazing staff told me and take my meds and my life has completely changed. Very positive place.

Went in for my depression. I just couldn’t shake being sad and worried. I am coming forward to say I really was helped. I feel so much better about my life. I want to thank the staff for all their surport. Everyone needs a mind vacation to hit the reset button sometimes. I saw thing s smaller and easier to handle.
Thanks,
Christina

I called to make an appointment. The appointments are scheduled 6 months out. Sandy was very helpful and gave me the info I needed to find someone in Anderson instead of driving to Greenville. Thank you!

It is the best mental hospital I’ve ever been to. Yes some of the staff are rude but you do have your nice ones. So if you’re planning and sending your kid here go ahead. They may not have the exact experience I had but they will have a semi positive experience, and when it comes to mental hospital if you can attest get a semi positive experience take it and run.

My son didn't care for the facility itself. Outdated and structured compared to others. Therapist mike is absolutely fantastic. Amazing man great at his job. The out patient nurses tried to convince me they set up appointments when it was me. Some nurses thanked me for making their job easier. The releasing nurse didn't know her butt from her elbow

Thank you Tenille for your passion. If you are looking for a passionate team of social workers for your adolescent child in Greenville county and surrounding counties I highly recommend trying this facility first.
HUGE SHOUT out to Tenille (sorry if I misspelled her name) and her partner. Our story is huge and complicated. this was our third attempt at helping my boyfriends daughter home we both met for the first time in both of our lives seven months ago.
This has been the hardest battle of our entire lives. The social workers deal with this on a daily basis I cannot imagine the compassion and strength it takes to deal and see and hear the stories that they hear. I want to publicly announce my biggest apology to the most amazing team. The two social workers at this facility especially Tenille. she did not deserve the phone call I made the final day our adolescent was there. I look forward to making it known to anyone and everyone how amazing she is and her teammate and how regretful I am for my behavior. I held it together for seven long months. Again I can’t give details but it’s like every turn every direction everywhere I went everywhere we went it was just a dead end and we saw this beautiful girl going downhill. They only wanted the best for her. I can’t say the same for the doctor that was assigned to her. That’s who I needed to vent on but even still that’s not my character ever. I hope corporate gets this, I hope everyone sees this and I hope especially social workers in the adolescent unit. I’m not afraid to face humility as I deserve every ounce of it. I hope she knows she’s a wonderful soul and a blessing to all the youth she has assisted. If you have a trouble teen I would definitely start here. also call DSS. They are your friends and I promise they will walk you through every step and help you along the way. DSS has been my godsend. I even told my social worker that I vented and was incredibly rude and I’m noxious to this wonderful person. Mental health is very serious and should never be overlooked. It’s amazing how it can take over an entire household and you would never notice. But it really just depends on the situation. Ours is definitely one of a kind in one day, one day I pray Because I won’t stop fighting for it that we get just as not only for his daughter but that we can advocate for families like ours. And provide support to people like the social workers and their team. I look forward to making things right with her. DSS IS My saving grace my peace of mind. Now we pray. #Justice

I was here in 2013 for 2 months and was treated very well they definitely helped me to get myself back on track and where I needed to be not sure how things are there now but I give it a 4 star rating for my personal experience because the nurses, doctors, staff were all nice and helpful and the food was excellent!

It was nothing like I would ever picture to be the patients were no crazier than anyone I've met in life they were either dealt a bad hand or been mistreated in life the staff I give my upmost respect and deserve a 5-star rating for what they have to work with I would have given a five star rating all around it's except for the follow-up procedures which I'm going to address right now on Facebook

I’ve been to this facility twice, once around 7 or 8 years ago and again 2 1/2 years ago I think. I’ve been reading the accusations and I do believe most of them but myself personally have had almost all positive experiences with them, I had a dissasociative episode and they recalled my specific food request from hours before and made it for me after kitchen hours and I found it very kind. I WAS told that I could either take my medicine or I would be forced to take it by a male nurse and they shot me up with 2 1000mg+ abilify shots, one in each shoulder along with an actual 30mg pill which I told them seemed like a large amount compared to what I was accustomed but they seemed not to care and had no response… I brought it up during once of the classes as well but its like I was speaking gibberish. all in all I had a decent experience with great food, rehab courses, gym visits, chapel once and was able to get clean for a while after I was released after 9 days the last time. Few last things, had to ask 5 or 6 times for nicotine gum, took over 3 hours for them to stop casually talking and check in my clothing/books and they look the other way I think when it comes to patients entering others rooms…
