I have moved several times and had 3 CPA’s. Smallwood and Associates is by far the best. They are knowledgeable and very responsive. I have and would recommend them to any one looking for a great group of people to support their CPA needs.

Very frustrating experience start to finish. The seem to be only interested in large companies that pay the type of fees that make communication and tax planning efficient. Smaller businesses and persona tax customers clearly are not a focus or area of interest for Smallwood.

AVOID- AVOID- AVOID!!!!
Working with Smallwood & Associates ended up being one of the biggest financial mistakes that our small business made.

This firm doesn't value long-term relationships- they will do their best to extract every dollar from you. In my opinion, I was grossly overcharged by several thousands of dollars.

I have heard through my business network that there have been other victims, so wanted to post my warning here in hopes that it helps others.

I will pay these guys off and move on, but it is a tough lesson learned for me.

Such a negative experience with this organization I don't even know where to begin.

Complete lack of communication once we got through the onboarding process. Absence of transparency for pricing is frustrating, especially when the hourly rate is above market (and never told to us up front despite asking several times) and the number of hours billed makes no sense.

When we needed them - our CPA went ghost on us. We had a bank loan that we had prepared and lined up, qualification wasn't an issue, but they needed our company returns. Had MULTIPLE GUARANTEES they would be in our hand by then. Several weeks of heads up provided to our CPA. As the deadline approached, our CPA threw together a halfhearted Draft that was rejected by the bank and cost us our locked in interest rate. Long term negative financial implications for us. Personal life happens, but when you wait until the absolute last minute, things always happen.

Apparently our CPA isn't familiar with self-employment tax? We get quoted an expected end of year tax bill - not guessing, this is after she had all the information complied and processed (had not yet fully completed returns). Her forecast for us was about half of our final liability. Tens of Thousands of Dollars. Hard to plan financially when your financial professionals can't provide you accurate information.

Our new CPA made very simple changes to our corporate structure that moving forward will save us very substantial amounts of money. When discussing my frustrations with one of their Managing Partners, she acknowledged the change we were making as a simple $ saving solution, but that their associates are unable to provide such advice? So this firm is nothing but overpriced tax prep?

Same Managing Partner understood all my issues, thoroughly acknowledged that they were existent with other clients repped by the same individual, and after voicing my frustrations that was end of conversation. No follow up for the money your firm, directly and indirectly, cost our business? Supposedly our bill was discounted, the invoicing system has no transparency so can't see. I left the questionable services outstanding and left multiple notes mentioning I would like to speak to someone in charge, but from what I can see the original bill presented was same as final amount paid.

Seek help elsewhere for your professional services.

Extremely poor communication & poor customer service. Would definitely not recommend to anyone!
