We adopted our Chessie (aka "Puddles") 6 months ago today. She is a delightful cat and brings us much joy! She is affectionate, playful, talkative, clean, and very fast! She loves to watch our 15-year-old goldfish, Maui, whose aquarium I had to secure with cardboard on top. She likes to play with our dog Hershey too. She is so cute and lovable, and we are so thankful to have her! Our lives are so much happier with Chessie! Thank you so much for rescuing her so we could adopt her! Wendy and Mike Asmus

Yesterday I had to put my poor old gal down. It was one of the hardest things to do. The staff at Animal Control were so professional and compassionate. They made an unbearable task almost bearable. The staff allowed me to see her after she had passed over the rainbow bridge and it gave me the closure that I desperately needed. I was so impressed with how clean the facility was. It didn't smell like animals. The facility was cleaner than some vets office's I have been. Thank you to the staff of Kalamazoo Animal Control. You are a wonderful team.

Got a cat from here a month ago. Absolutely adore him. While he was here they did treat him with a flea med, dewormer, rabies shot, distemper, ear mite med, they do a check up and give them a microchip so that is a plus. He wasn’t well when we took him home though. Took him to the vet still he still had a parasite in his poop, yeast in his ears, and treated him for a UTI. He’s a loving sweet boy. I highly recommend coming here to get a cat because the cats are so grateful it’s a good cause and most of the cats cages are really small. They are fed and taken care of though and off the streets. Neutered and spayed to help get population under control. Couldn’t have been more blessed getting Gary perfect addition to the family.

God bless all of you in helping our family get our girl back! After months of searching and worrying you all made sure she was safe, cared for and returned home! You all are always so kind and beyond helpful when we come in. We adopted our deaf dog from you years ago as well and are so happy we are a complete family again. You called every time a cat with a similar description came in and stayed on it every step of the way. Thank you all for everything you do for all of the animals and their families. We can never repay you enough!!!! Big hugs to you and thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!! You are so appreciated!!!!

The new building is amazing and clean. The staff are really friendly and helpful. They make meeting dogs really easy. You're allowed take whatever dog you want out by yourself (I would recommend that an adult always take the dog out and not children, because some of the dogs are very excited and pull). They have a nice cat room. The shelter is also really great for people who want to come in and just walk the dogs, and socialize with them. Best. Shelter. Ever 💖

*Google has not updated photos of the new building so I attached some. The new building is right down the street from the old one and they have super helpful signs to show you the way.

Yes, this place is completely heartbreaking. I honestly cried while I was there because every dog just wanted love and attention. This place is almost 100% volunteer run and theu are all doing the very best that they can for each animal. The cages are small, and uncomfortable looking, and it's a very chaotic environment. PLEASE adopt your pets from here, the animals need you!

We adopted our sweet girl here. She had a few behavioral issues, but no one ever gave her a chance in life. With some training she has become an amazing family pet. Give these animals your love ❤

The staff was amazing. We were able to fill out all paperwork a head of time for approval to adopt. Which allowed us to go right in and look at the dogs. The staff was honest about all faults of each dog and were willing to "cat test" the puppy we took home.

It's been a year now since our adoption of Dinky now known as Thor and he has been the best decision made. We were told when we decided on him that he was returned cause he showed signs of being aggressive with an older dog (meaning expecting their older dog to baby sit a puppy and puppies play alot). He doesn't show an ounce of aggressiveness toward anyone or other dogs just wants to cuddle and play. Just shows you how someone's mistake can be someone's blessing, we will always be a rescue family.

My wife and I try hard to come here to contribute what little we can every month or two to help these tireless folks in what they do for the pets in our community.

They always act like we gave them “the world”, plus a million dollars, when we try to donate just a meager $100-$125 to help those who can ill afford the cost to get their loving pet back? Trust us, they need all the help they can get and this probably doesn’t cover all their costs to feed and shelter and complete the necessary paperwork needed!

May we honor their hard work by mailing them anything we are able to so we can save the lives of the animals who are so loyal to us all?

We are not affiliated in any manner with the Animal Control folks, their administration, nor do we work there. Rather we just wanted to be truthful how they have always been even though we do not believe they know us when we drop in but again, they could not be more thankful?
It touches our hearts to hear the dogs barking in the other areas, so if you could, would you please consider helping them and all the animals they care for with love to help save the animals?

May you all be blessed richly in every way, and thank you God for giving us your loving animals!

This was my first time at animal control here in Kalamazoo. The people running the place were friendly and courteous.

A friend of mine had a cat she could no longer keep due to a change in her apartment complex's policies. I helped her bring Gladys the cat to the shelter. Of course this was one of the most difficult things she had ever had to do. Her pain and suffering were significantly lessened due to the EXTRAORDINARY skills and compassion and dedication of these workers. Their jobs require a combination of compassion and detachment. They guide pet owners through the unique trauma with so much love and understanding, never knowing what the day will bring for them. They are a unique combination of animal lovers and people lovers. They are heroes. This shelter is run at the highest level.

I adopted a dog (Skylar) and the staff was friendly and let me take my time taking a few out and spending time with each.

They let me do a meet-and-greet with my current dog. I really felt like they wanted to make sure we were a good fit before placement.

I have called back with additional questions and they have always have taken their time to answer.

We love the sweet adult cat that we adopted there. He is the most laid back animal I've ever known. He was at the Shelter over a month so he was half price, and I'll never know why his previous owners didn't look for him. He must have been owned as he is so relaxed around people. Thank you County, for having such wonderful animals to adopt.

I love the people who work here! 3 years ago I adopted my Pit Bull, Blue, from them. He was almost bald from demodectic mange, underweight and timid, but so lovable. I saw him on their website the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and went to check him out the same day. Even though they were over -crowded they agreed to keep Blue for me until the Monday after the holiday weekend because I had to go out of town for the holiday. He couldn't be neutered immediately because of the mange (which took about 6 months recovery time). The office called us and our vet every week to check on Blue's health and to ensure that he would be fixed as soon as possible. I appreciated their diligence in making sure that Blue was being taken care of as he deserved. At some point during one of our conversations someone in the office told me that because of overcrowding that always happens around the holidays and Blue's health, he should have been scheduled for euthanization right away but they felt he deserved a chance. They knew his picture would only be on the website for one day but they had to give him a chance - I'm so thankful they did! He's one of the best dogs I've had the pleasure to live with. Blue keeps my 86-year-old mother company and meets the kids at the corner of my yard every day when they get off the school bus during the school year (he is rewarded with greetings from the kids and a head scratch or two). My experience with K'zoo County Animal Services shows me that they truly care about the animals that are in their care and they do as much as they can to find them homes and give them a happy life. For those of you out there who criticize them because they are a "kill shelter" please stop. They don't like it any more than you do and they go out of their way to prevent it as much as they can. Each time they checked in with me they thanked me for giving Blue a home. I owe them thanks for giving him a chance and for caring about all of the animals there. It can't be an easy job but they work tirelessly for each and every animal in their care.

My dog got out of the house and was picked up by the Kalamazoo County Animal Services. They were very responsible and took care of my dog., He was so tired from playing fetch with them that when he got home, he was tired and went to sleep. They were very accomodating and the officer staid late after closing to wait for me to come and pick up my dog. Kudos to the professional, human way they treat their job!

I adopted a little man named Bailey today from cage 11. He is the best little fellow I have ever had! Their evaluation of him was right on. He is so friendly with everyone including my cats. He has fallen right into the routine of the family. I have never had a male dog before and I have come to understand the fire hydrant thing, he pees on any and all bushes, trees and shrubs he can reach.
Thank you KCASE for letting me adopt such a wonderful little dog. Bailey thanks you also for taking such good care of him.

This is a tough job, staff does it with amazing compassion. Proud to be a volunteer. In 2021 I adopted the sweetest 8 year old Pomeranian mix from KCASE. Light of my life!
