University Press Books

This is a lovely bookstore, and the place to go for stuff published by university and college presses in the US and abroad. Good selection of many academic titles and other, including periodicals. Next door is a very nice cafe and classical music store. They have a loyalty program one can sign up for, a coupon for every so many dollars spent. Nice folks to boot.

I love this place! These people are very passionate and work tirelessly to bring well-curated, relevant and hard to find books to the world. This place exists because this is a labor of love for the people who run this store. Bill and Karen, we love you! One of my best memories at UC Berkeley. =^,,^=

University Press is an excellent book shop. Berkeley used to be a paradise for book stores, and one by one, they have fallen by the wayside, due to high rents, online competition, dumb mistakes, or the increasing functional illiteracy of the general population.

But University Press survives and still does a great job of stocking a terrific selection. I hope they keep it up.

Just learned that the bookstore closed permanently due to COVID-19. UPB was one of my favorite bookstores in Berkeley because of its unique focus on scholarly and academic books. Book stores are a tough business to run these days, but they are institutions that I hope will stand the test of time, especially the ones like UPB which are so unique. Its closure marks yet another event that makes the university town less interesting. :(

Really cozy and amazing place. Just enjoy walking around and browsing through books! Looks more like a library or museum than the standard book store

loved the room in the back with used books and a huge table with chairs. picked up a few books (they were having a 50% off used books sale while I was there) that I haven't seen elsewhere, for about 2$ each

With so few bookstores left in the Bay Area, it's refreshing to go to one that carries titles you won't find at a Barnes and Noble.
