Broom Bush Cafe

This café is just fantastic. What sets it apart is the family-like atmosphere. From the moment you walk in, you are taken care of. The food is great, with big portions and plenty of options on the menu. I highly recommend their grits, they're the real deal here! I also loved the chocolate chip pancakes, and my mocha latte was perfect. I don't think you can go wrong here! I wish I lived closer, because I would come here every day if I could.

Love this place for good comfort food. The staff and owners are all extremely nice. Just a real pleasure to eat here. Food is maybe not great but really really good. Drop in for an excellent experience.

A place where locals go to have breakfast or lunch. I had a chorizo breakfast burrito which they prepared quickly. I ate it in the Cafe and found it to be quite tasty and large enough to take home for another meal.

Variety of breakfast & lunch options from burgers, omelets to salad. Very warm, attentive, caring individuals that work here. I'd definitely come back here for this down to earth, homely diner if I'm in the area again.

Takes me back 40 years ago to when it was Choices restaurant. My grandmother used to go in everyday and buy bananas from James Choice. I went the other day and had a great breakfast. Really nice old school breakfast with lots of butter in the grits. Keep places like this alive please.

True local spot with excellent quality diner-style food and classic Californian dishes. Hits the spot on a weekend morning with hot coffee or a nice weekday afternoon for a quiet, delicious lunch.

Lots of selections and service staff is very accommodating to substitutions and questions.

I love this place they've got great breakfasts a little pricey but it's worth it and the staff is the owner and his wife they really appreciate your patronage and they do a super job.

Update:. Came back for corned beef hash and eggs. Could not have been better put this place down as one of your breakfast regulars if you're in Berkeley

It was great! The food, the kindness and acknowledgement as my daughter and I walked in the door. It didn't look like much inside, but the food and the friendly 'neighborhood" feel was there. This was my first time there and it is in the area where I am from and grew up.

I love the Broom Brush Cafe. It is a very nice,peaceful restaurant. The food is well prepared and good. The employees are very respectful and I enjoy my mornings there when able to afford. Thank you Broom Brush Cafe Employees for always making me feel welcomed. I love you all. Respectfully Paul

Solid diner food with a wide selection and friendly staff. Can't ask for more than that from a local diner.

Prices are very reasonable by Bay standards for good portions.

I just love this little Neighborhood Cafe for breakfast. It's a little dive place that's been around for years. If you're tired of trendy, hipster, overly expensive breakfast out, this is the place for you. A mostly black and African American regular clientele who are well-known by food servers. They do a lot of business, and delicious food is served quickly and in large portions. It's a great bargain for your money.

The breakfast was very good I had a meat lovers omelet, grits a side of corned beef hash, pancakes with lemon hot syrup and butter. Also I had hot chocolate which was fantastic. Customer service was excellent because the food came very fast.

Best Breakfast I had in a long time.

The breakfast potatoes were nice and crispy, the Denver omelet was stuffed full, and I watched the staff be truly kind to absolutely everyone who came in. What a gem.

This isn't a trendy place trying to recreate the classic diner. This is an authentic modern version of the classic diner.
They have one of the biggest and most varied breakfast menus around, and a good selection of lunch choices. Service is fast and friendly. The coffee isn't gourmet level, but it's okay. (Once in a while the coffee is excellent—maybe the roasters just delivered it or something.)
They serve eggs fried, scrambled, and in omelets—with a wide range of trimmings. If you want to substitute something lower-carb for bread and potatoes, you can get a good portion of steamed vegetables—where other places typically give you a couple of slices of tomato.
Warning: If you don't specify the kind of cheese you want, sometimes (not always) they use process 'cheese' instead of real cheese—so specify if that matters to you.
I've eaten there regularly for years, for the extensive menu, good food, and fast service—and friends that I've recommended it to have later expressed gratitude.
