Mother Orange Tree of Butte County

The oldest citrus tree in California. Off the beaten path, but still quite fascinating.

So nice to be able to show a piece of history to my daughter. Telling her about it was awesome. Maybe someone can use some of the seeds from this Orange tree, and sell the seedlings to benefit parks and rec or something?? I would buy a piece of growing history like that.

We cam in the off season, in the dead of winter. There was nobody there given it was a weekend.

There are two plaques with information on the tree itself, and we saw no signs discouraging taking the fruit, so my brother and I took one orange each. It gave me a sense of wonder to eat fruit from a tree so old. It was very serene when we went.

Here you can see the wonderful and ancient mother Orange. She's lonely ever father orange left the picture.

Smaller than I had imagined being the mother of all orange trees, but she is beautiful. She also needs an arbour.

It's the mother of all orange trees, possibly...or it might just be a tree they moved so it didn't get flooded by Oroville Dam.
