LAC Dorothy Kirby Center

Hello, I was in Kirby back in 1996 in Jade College with Mr. Sanchez. Mrs. Jackson was my counselor and I’ve benefited greatly from the program there. While I was there I got a chance to meet the Dalai Lama and participate in the sand paintings. I excelled in my education there in all my classes and I still have contact with one of my peers that were in my cottage and he’s doing well. Besides that now that I am a man and put all my childish ways behind me I’ve been trying to reach out to my former counselors and therapist there. Rest in peace to Perry Amos who was a probation officer there at mentor of mine. God bless

I was there 1989-1990 Sapphire cottage. Vivian Orange was my case worker. The place was nice and staff also. I worked in the kitchen at times.

I did almost 2 years here in garnet cottage... big thanks to ms.bass she was the most amazing music teacher I've ever had!!! Also chime he was a terrific teacher none better out there...

I was there 98-2000 Garnet Cottage.. Gangsta Net.. Robert Sale was one of the staff at our cottage.. Man im speechless just reading about this place.. Man i know a few individuals that were there with me who have died. My sweetheart at Kirby still calls me up for some SuGar😜😜😜 at times.. But i appreciate the Cooks there and all the people whom names i forgot but shoutout to all who were there with me specially Ms.Mc Coy i even graduated there at Kirby .. Garnet Cottage baby

I had the opportunity and pleasure to volunteer at the Dorothy Kirby Center years ago through Partners for Success, volunteer attorneys. I was helping the Emerald Team. The staff was supportive of the residents and I’m glad there is this supportive system for young adults.

back then in 1990s when I was there it was the bomb I love it there they taught me so much things I grew from it and I live right by there I never knew it but overall they taught me a lot they were kind they were good I listening to other people when they were down and out but overall Kirby I’ll never forget that I love that place that was one of my favorites

I WAS IN AQUA COTTAGE A LONG TIME AGO IN 1996.I GOT MY EDUCATION THERE,WENT TO A NICE SCHOOL AND GOT GOOD ONE ON ONE THERAPY AND GROUP THERAPY EVERY TUESDAY.ITS A GOOD PLACE FOR YOUTHS SO THEY DONT GO TO Y.A.

Wow I was there in 1994 -1995 emerald cottage never going to forget mr michael cooper that place really help me do good in there i work in the school office the principal was ms baker good times but when I got out i did not get the family support and got busted again and went to camp Scott kirby is one of the places where the staff really care and gave you alot of support my respect goes out to that facility ..

i was in sapphire cottage from 2014-2015. Got my high school diploma there thanks to the apex program and the awesome teachers, like Mr. Spivrey, Mr. page, and a substitute teacher who's name slips the mind. Over all the school was helpful and a good experience, but the actual cottage programs were severely lacking in useful real world skills. One on one therapy helped me, with my P.O. Mr. Ochoa i was able to discover and effectively use helpful life skills that i use regularly even today.

I was in Garnet Cottage in 1967-1969. Went to a Group home after that in East LA and took a bus down Atlantic in my uniform to go to school there. Got my High School diploma when I was 16! Yay!

I did two years here in the early 2000`s and it wasn't that bad I mean at the time all I wanted to do was awol but the things I learned in DKC helped me in life. Big thanks to Ms.Calahan, Mr.Byma, and especially Mr.Holmes and all the other staff who was there for more then a check.
