Garey Building

My review after a little more than a year here now.
When I talk to people about what its like to live here I like to say this. "I can compare the quality of the cleanliness, maintenance, presentation, and staff to that of 4-5 star hotels." We toured a lot of apartments in DTLA but this building is among the most convenient, safe, clean, and quiet communities. I've really loved it here. Not to mention its within a 10 minute walk of the Little Tokyo Village plaza and dozens of shops & restaurants. Once you see the amenities, daily cleanliness, and the events that happen here, you'll understand why I can easily compare them to highly rated hotels. It feels luxurious here. I'll go into detail about some hot topics below but that sums it up so far.

Cleanliness & maintenance: Porters are here everyday to clean and sanitize the entire building. Its kinda crazy how well they keep this place clean. I love how clean it is here, as I've had really bad experiences in most other areas. The amenities around here are always beautiful and the landscaping is has always been exceptional too. The maintenance crew is great and put care into your maintenance requests. Manny has been the main person to tend to a lot of the buildings needs. Maintenance is always doing something, but can likely fulfill a request same day.

Leasing Staff has been phenomenal with communication and accommodation. I definitely understand the reputation building management can have, but the leasing office at the Garey have been exceptionally wonderful to me and my family here. They're very honest yet very polite, and they won't sugar coat things like how many buildings do, and will hear you out when you have a concern. All of the leasing office staff are great whether you're working with Irwin, Marco, Kimberly, or Mana(Not sure if that's how you spell it😭)

The location has been great for the most part. We have two cats that like to be outside and our patio is great space for that. There are a lot of food options within minutes of walking, and there's a small bar connected to the building. There is a metro station also a few minutes away that can connect you to most, if not all of LA County considering it can get you to Union Station as well.
We've had two units here, a studio/512 ft² and a 1br/ 715 ft². Studio is fine for a couple. We fit a setup of an L shape couch and two TVs in the studio, and our now family of 3 fits just fine in a 1 bedroom. Everything in these units are very modern and unique.

Alas, nothing is perfect. The only complaints I have are things the building doesn't really have control of, but are worth noting anyway. A lot of the tenants are rather careless with their pets, allowing them to do their "business" in the streets. There are dedicated spots where you can take your pet here, but at least the porters power wash the main walkway every week along with rinsing it down everyday. On top of that, being in LA, you're going to hear helicopters fly over you often, regardless of the time. I wouldn't say let that factor in your choice, as its going to be the same regardless where you are in LA. We have a baby and now I really despise loud sudden noises but LA is always noisy.

I've really loved it here, and I wish I could stay. I'm leaving due to personal reasons, and it has nothing to do with the Garey Building. I've felt very welcomed here, and I definitely would recommend anyone to live here. Best of luck on your apartment hunting, but I think your search should end here!

This review is for the maintenance staff at the Garey Building. My fiancé and I have lived here for about 3 years and just renewed for a 4th. Pedro has always been very accommodating and professional when resolving our maintenance requests. He answers all of our questions and is very helpful. We have a busy schedule and they always try to find ways to work around it. He wastes no time and ensures our unit remains in the best shape over the years. They are all very friendly and do a great job at keeping the Garey Building clean and safe.

Manny has also been very helpful during our time here. As our unit takes on normal wear and tear, he’s been able to fix any issue in a timely manner. He’s easy to talk to and is efficient in his work.

Overall we would recommend the Garey Building to anyone looking to move to DTLA. The Arts District is the best neighborhood in the area and we’re enjoying our stay.

Quick, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. Both the leasing and maintenance team (shout-out to Manny) have made the Garey Building feel like home since day 1. As a first- mover, I didn’t know what to expect but I’ve had all my questions answered and all potential issues accommodated to my needs in a swift manner. Highly recommend!!!

I want to thank Irwin for making the process extremely easy! He helped us with any questions we had and made our move a piece of cake. He made us fall in love with The Garey and it's amenities. Maintenance is great! They are on it immediately! Definitely see myself living here for a good while.

Manny is always there to take care of any issues. He was quick to find solutions for our nest that didn’t work properly.

Manny from maintenance did an amazing job fixing our oven. He was fast, professional and friendly!

The maintenance team is great, specifically Manny is the best! He fixed an issue with our shower within an hour of putting in a request online! So friendly and helpful.

Best building I have lived at. The leasing team is always around and helpful, security keeps us safe, and the maintenance crew is top notch. Manny is the man!!

We truly enjoy living here! Manny and the maintenance team are quick and effective. The building is well maintained and all communications are answered quickly.

Manny was quick and helpful with various maintenance requests, including changing of light bulbs that went out.

My maintenance requests have been taken care of promptly. I noticed that the refrigerator light and bathroom fan were not working. Manny came within a few hrs to come fix them. He also helped wipe the floors, making it look like he was never there.

Also, the leasing process here is pretty painless if you follow the directions. The agents are knowledgeable, helpful, and readily available - v friendly bunch of folks. Thanks Irwin!

Straight up, the maintenance staff is a major reason why I love being a tenant at The Garey Building. Outside of being quick to respond and resolve any issues you have they are just genuinely kind and caring humans. Pedro and Manny will always greet you in the halls and ask how you’re doing. Manny worked on my maintenance requests today after JUST submitting the request yesterday and he was in and out in less than 30 mins. Amazing humans and a HUGE perk to living here!

I called in to tour yesterday, and Kimberly was more than happy to arrange a same-day tour. Upon arriving, I was immediately greeted by the team, and met Kimberly promptly - even though I showed up 15 minutes late. Before we started, Kim sat down with me & we went over what my needs were, in-depth, so she could better assist in finding the perfect home for me. She gave her personal recommendation based upon my preferences, and I was stunned - it truly was the perfect apartment for me! The Garey is a beautiful building, in a great location, with great staff!

Maintenance is excellent. Quick response and issue was resolved — Manny did a great job.

Living at the Garey is great! Management is quick to respond to messages and the maintenance team is stellar! Shoutout to Jesus, Manny, and Pedro for always being quick with maintenance requests. The community is lucky to have them & the awesome cleaning crew that helps keep the Garey well maintained.

One thing I do want to note is the floors are thin here, so you will hear your upstairs neighbors walking around. This might be something to consider if you're sensitive to noise, but I do feel the pros of living here outweigh the con of the occasional foot steps.

The entire team here is fantastic!

The cleaning / maintenance crew is always friendly and go over and beyond to keep the space clean (even though some tenants are inconsiderate and overall messy)

The same is clean, the teams work hard!

Whenever you have maintenance needs they service them as soon as they can and always extremely friendly, responsive and respectful.

The rent is rather high for what we have but- the amenities and services make it well worth it!

Shout to Manny for always being so friendly and shout out to my two old school cleaning / maintenance ladies, they’re so awesome!

The maintenance team here is amazing! Had a minor issue with our air conditioning system and Manny was fixing the issue within hours. He not only fixed the issue but also took the time to explain what was wrong and how to prevent any further issues. Manny was very thorough with his work and very professional. Gracias Manny!

I was a tenant at The Garey for a few years and our experience living was great. Overall, from the staff at the leasing office to the maintenance staff all were amazing. This review however is primarily in regards to the stellar service we received from the maintenance staff members, specifically Pedro. Pedro was always professional, respectful and very skilled at his job. We had issues with our a/c for almost a year and previous maintenance staff just kept telling us it was working. For a day or two after they came out it would work but would then stop producing cold air again. When Pedro started he came in and helped us right away and told us immediately what the problem was and called in the specialist needed to fix our a/c. This was a godsend in the middle of summer in Los Angeles where temps reach well over 90’s. Thank you Pedro, the maintenance staff and The Garey for so many pleasant experiences and interactions during our stay. You will have no problems receiving great help while living here.

Marco went above and beyond through the application process and throughout our move-in. Manny took care of the minor fixes fixes required on our move in inspection, and took the time one one repair that turned out to be more challenging to make sure our new apartment is perfect.
