Happa Restaurant of Japanese Izakaya

Let's get the negative stuff out of the way : this place looks like a high school cafeteria, decor is spartan at best; service is okay, one kid was a bit clueless but helpful nevertheless. The highlight then is: the quality of the food. Ordered their signature Monjayaki which was interesting (so is the grilled stingray), their popcorn shrimp is a surprise , the eggplant with minced pork is delish, lotus root salad and jelly fish appetizer is nice too. I gave it five star purely due to the food , and the lack of patron on a Thursday night. Hope this place survives. Parking is gated within/under the Gardena Hotel

I really enjoyed my meal here. Staff was really friendly and the food was excellent. Located in/part of the Hotel it's a little hard to see from the street but its worth finding! Dishes are all really authentic and executed perfectly. A lot a variety and pricing is perfect.

A great little restaurant. We ate here because we were staying at the New Gardena Hotel and were pleasantly surprised! We ordered 1 Curry, 1 Happa Chicken bento box, pan fried gyoza, and Karamen. Everything was hot and delicious. The Curry and chicken was awesome!!

The system was to cook the monja-yaki by yourself.

I love this restaurant and have been a fan since it offered free bento boxes with a stay at the New Gardena Hotel which is adjacent. The food is flavorful: the bacon fried rice DOES NOT MISS! Neither does the Beef Spareribs, nor grilled sliced pork with ginger. Love the Macaroni/Potato Salad. Flavorful food. Quaint hidden gem in Gardena.

visited Happa Restaurant for the first time w/ friends and my must order items are:
-Mochiko Chicken
-Mentai Potato Macaroni

the Mochiko Chicken was perfectly crunchy and chewy, seasoned perfectly with the accompanying sauce.

everything on the menu at Happa Restaurant is a la carte. when one of the gf's ordered the Mentai Potato Mac (she offered to share it with the group), i knew i needed to order my own - so glad i did.
in fact, our entire party of 5 ordered our own individual Mentai Potato Macs because nobody wanted to share the yumminess.

our group also ordered the Shishito Peppers and Agedashi Tofu for sharing and we all ordered an entree.

the food is on point at Happa Restaurant, if i lived closer, i would be a regular.

parking is located down the driveway of the New Gardena Hotel. you will see a gated entrance upon driving down the driveway, simply drive up to the gate and the gate should slide open.

Very reasonable pricing on all the dishes. This is Japanese Izakaya or tappas restaurant. Plenty of parking spaces right next to the restaurant and the hotel.

The most authentic Japanese restaurant I've been too since leaving Japan. Staff is top tier! Very amazing and friendly. They were even still nice to us after asking for split itemized receipts lol (needed to expense through work). This place is honestly amazing and I recommend everyone try it! The food was so delicious and was very fairly priced! We had enough food and alcohol for 4 people to be full and happy and was under $150!

Local bar and restaurant. Food is amazing too! I usually come by for a drink with a buddy. They also have live music Thursday nights. Welcoming staff, local joint, can’t beat the prices.

Went there after my cousin's Memorial service. The staff was really good and we had plenty of food. Thank you Happa for being able to accommodate us!

Amazing restaurant! Great food, great service! Our waiter Kuni was the man! He was very attentive, had great recommendations and was fun to talk to. I love forward to coming back soon and showing friends this great place. The pork cutlet curry plate is a must!

This little hidden gem is nothing short of fantastic! The staff are all so friendly and accommodating, the venue itself is very welcoming and comfortable - and while it’s not over-the-top fancy, it’s not really supposed to be. It’s very much like home, complete with home style cooking!

The menu isn't a novel, which is good. There’s more time and attention paid to the few but delectable selections. Very straight and to the point, which is rare for restaurants nowadays, what with everyone constantly trying to outdo each other with unnecessary gimmicks.

The prices are very fair - the portions are extremely generous, and the food itself is absolutely delicious. Every dish is just dancing with flavor and memories of home. (I’m a happa, too!) My husband and I like to come here for our occasional date night, and we’re never disappointed.

6/5 stars, Happa is always the go-to for us in every category! (Try the burdock chips - I just might go in today for some, they are AMAZING!!!)

I love this place to death!! The food is unbelievable, the staff's very professional and knowledgeable about their craft. If you're on a budget and still want to eat and drink out, you have come to the right spot. Great happy hour!! Although the drinks are very cheap anyways. I mean... Where else would you get a Budlight for 3 bucks??!?? I know, right

Excellent service and excellent food. It’s a family run place and they made us feel like family. Even special made us musubi as they had sold out for the day.

Right away most of the first impressions are usually more unsure due to the fact that this restaurant is attached to a hotel. More often then not the food is mediocre at best and very little to excite the tastebuds. Not with Hapa. I still find that Hapa has a very distinct flavor to their plates, even if they do closely resemble some other restaurants eats. I'm a big fan of the Tara miso a.k.a Miso black cod dinner plate. I was never a big fan of cooked fish until I had this plate. Now it's something I look forward to getting Everytime I go there......tonight they were sold out! That was not a problem though the mochiko chicken is super good. They have a good menu, lots of specials, friendly staff, karaoke, full bar and clean restrooms. Check them out!

Awesome. Service was great. Food was good. Price was fair. They were open until 11pm. All other restaurants in this area closed at 9pm.

Very good, authentic Japanese food. Very extensive menu at reasonable prices. Located in a small hotel catering to Japanese businessmen. The chicken (Mochiko and Happa) are especially good.

Aloha! Me and mah Ohana dined here and glad we did! Loved the food and the speedy service. Had some locals here singing and giving entertainment. Perfect for the family brunch.
