Book Alley

I initially found a rare book on AbeBooks, and Book Alley was the seller. I decided to call and ask for photos of the book before I spent a few hundred on one book. The gentleman took my email, and I received an email back within the hour with photos attached. I bought it online, and I received the book only a few days later perfectly wrapped. Very satisfied with my purchase.

This is the type of rustic book store with piles of old books strewn about. Tons of amazing books in every nook and cranny, especially in terms of vintage tomes. It’s easy to lose track of time in a place like this

A true gem of a store. They have so many books, but also DVD/Blu Ray, Vinyl, CD’s, etc. The people who run the shop are also very accommodating and friendly enough. I’ll never stop shopping here until they close or I die.

Great place to browse, but you can also search through their stock online if you are looking for something specific and are not the adventurous type. Helpful staff too!

Great selection of used books - lots of inventory and constant stream of stuff coming in.

The stand-out for me was not the range of books on offer (which is impressive!) but the customer service, friendliness and sheer joy of books exhibited by the staff. I thoroughly enjoyed the discussions, and the recommendations suggested were right on the mark. Reading is a solitary exercise for me, but the joy one gets through reading is universal, and you share it! What a pleasure it was to visit.

Lovely used&new bookstore just around the corner from a cute cream shop (Afters ice cream). Stumbled upon this little gem of a bookstore with an excellent selection of books and even vinyl! Definitely coming back.

"Ok" on prices, of course books are cheaper at Goodwill, and other thrift stores. But, this store has every genre, and a friendly staff as well!

Great bookstore to while away the time. Art and local history sections are the highlight of this bookstore.

I really enjoy visiting Book Alley. It has been part of Pasadena in one way or another for over 30 years now. Pasadena has a long history of used book stores with a diverse stock of titles. While I have watched many of them go away in the last decade I am happy to see Book Alley hang on.

A good used book store helps you see what a community has been reading and treasureing for years as it moves from the residents' shelves back into the Great Material Continuum through the store. I can see a reflection of Caltech in the shelves of the Science and Math sectional. To find a copy of any of the books by Landau & Lifshitz (beloved physics tomes of a certain age) in a used bookstore is a bit usual, But I found several the other day when I was in Book Alley.

When running a used book store you have to do a lot of culling and curating of the collection on offer. I went in looking for some fairly common titles by Douglas Adams and Neal Stephenson to give to a friend who has become house bound. I came away with only one of those titles but several more interesting titles for my collection. So if you are looking for common titles, try any of the online stores. But if you want something interesting you probably didn't expect, actually venture across the threshold of the door into an actual bookstore filled with actual books with actual written thoughts and images printed on actual paper. You might find it quite refreshing in an age of PDFs on screens.

I also like that the humor and religion sections are next to each other. What a wise decision that was. If it was an accident, please don't tell me!

This place was amazing! It was much larger than most of the used book stores that I've been to recently and there was a lot to choose from and look through. Like any good used book shop there was a slight "old book" smell and a little bit of chaos, with some clutter and books on the floor. It was an organized chaos though and the shelves were labeled clearly and it was easy to find a specific section. This place was filled with charm and I can't wait to go back when I have more time to browse the shelves.

This is an AMAZING used book store and I wish I bought more books when I went there! They have a huge collection of poetry books with hard-to-find gems. The employees are incredibly warm and welcoming. Book Alley makes me glad to live in the area.

Hidden gem of a used bookstore! I can spend hours in this place! They have a HUGE collection of books, as well as a great selection of CD's/DVD's and vinyls. The staff are great and very helpful. Definitely worth a visit if you are an avid reader!

Amazing nook, lots of great sci-fi classics and used books, including some hard-to-find gems. Includes a record collection, CD collection, and several rare book collections. Great for a quiet afternoon of browsing.
