Downtown LA Proper Hotel

Beautiful hotel. Amazing service. We went to a concert in downtown and this was a great location to stay. There was an issue beyond the hotels control, but they went above and beyond what was expected to remedy. Emily, the manager, provided us with wonderful service. She's a great asset to the company. The rooms were so much nicer than your typical generic hotel rooms. Breakfast at the downstairs restaurant was delicious. I'll be back soon.

Amazing designer hotel in the heart of downtown Los Angeles! Walking into this hotel and the rooms feels like you’ve been transported to an Architectural Digest magazine, so it’s no surprise this hotel was designed in partnership with a famous interior designer. No detail was missed and you really forget you are in the center of downtown LA.

The rooms were spacious and the amenities are incredible. The bath products are Aesop which is to die for. They provide you with water bottles daily which is a requirement in my opinion these days. And of course the rooftop, restaurant, and bars are all top notch with beautiful aesthetics and amazing views of the skyline.

Parking is valet only and since it’s LA, you’ll definitely need a car. Likewise this hotel has a hefty resort destination fee. So while the actual place and service are great, the only downside is all the fees that stack up. You’ll quickly pay for valet, taxes on valet, resort fees, taxes on resort fees, a wellness surcharge they apply for employees, and more which makes the bill grow. That being said if money is no object, a great option to consider for your next trip!

It took me a while to write a review, and I rarely (if ever) write reviews. I just simply wanted to take the time to express my gratitude for the hospitality and the services during my stay.

I was there from May 4th to May 8th for a work conference in downtown LA. What drew me to this hotel was the consistent reviews I read online about the friendliness and hospitality at your hotel. I was also drawn by the southwestern aesthetics, since many hotels tend to have standard and more common interior designs, like minimalist and more modern designs. I was a bit skeptical if these reviews were too good to be true, but I'm glad I was proven wrong.

I just want to give a special thanks to Jenny, Tia, Tiana, Dez, Daniel, Gilma, Pierre, David, and Jesus for their acts of kindness. They should have a raise! ;) I apologize for people I forgot to include. I appreciate feeling welcomed by your team. I enjoyed chatting with your team at the front desk or at the Caldo Verde lounge to know them a bit more. I truly enjoyed the humanness and the atmosphere there.

Whether it was bringing additional towels, mats, or water (since I take medications), opening the passenger door of my Uber/taxi rides back to the hotel, fixing something in the bathroom, or watching over my luggage at the front desk to have a quick breakfast (special thanks for that!) before checking out to catch my flight back home, your acts of service and kindness do not go unnoticed. I didn't get to take as much advantage of the daily meal offer as much as I wished, but I did enjoy having your coffee lattes, cinnamon buns, huevos divorciados, and Little West Juice - Quench.

If there is just one thing I would recommend, I hope that there could be a clock in the room just to track my time. It wasn't major, and (thankfully) I did have my cellphone to check the time as well as the room thermostat.

It was truly a pleasure being a guest, and being there also made my experience in LA (first time traveling there) worthwhile. If I ever find a reason to return and visit LA, I'll be sure to book another stay at Downtown LA Proper Hotel to see some familiar faces next time. Thank you all so much! :)

We stayed at this hotel just a few days ago and it was awesome! Every single staff member was so kind and welcoming. Our room was so cute, clean and had a nice view.

We did not have any issues with noise either! We found it to be very quiet. Sure, there was normal city noise, but it was never a problem.

I also felt very safe with the valet / door guys around! I traveled alone one day via Uber, and they asked for the type of car and color to make sure I was getting into the right car.

Another night when we were leaving, my friend and I were already in the Uber, and we were waiting for my husband to come downstairs to meet us. He ended up not seeing where we were, so I opened the window and waved him over. The Proper valet / door guys double checked with us that this guy walking over to get in our Uber was supposed to be there with us. I appreciated them showing concern!

I highly recommend this hotel :)

1 of the best hotels I've ever stayed in Los Angeles. The entire sub was extremely warm and very friendly. I would absolutely come and say here again even if I wasn't downtown LA. I have eaten at the proper hotel in Santa Monica and absolutely loved the view and the restaurant there as well. I was very impressed for the entire time that I was there and I'm already dreaming about going back.

The best thing about this Hotel is the staff. They work very hard to make the guests feel at home. I also like the yoga classes every morning in the ballroom.

The DTLA Proper is a visually stunning hotel. The curated design and complimenting art work are beautiful. The overall aesthetic is quite pleasing. The staff was very friendly and helpful at check-in and throughout the stay. At check-in the amenities were well explained and in our room we found a personalized note, chocolate and plenty of bottle water. The room was on the cozier side but it was large enough for our stay and the bathroom was beautiful. The white tile and fixtures makes it very easy to see how clean it is. Overall a wonderful stay.

Hotel was excellent. I slept fantastically and enjoyed the spacious bathroom and pool upstairs. The view up there is next level. Service was also top notch. I found the food underwhelming / lacked flavor, so was slightly disappointed with it considering the price. However, lots of options right in the hotel .

One of the very best Marriott brand hotels I’ve ever stayed at. Nice room and I slept well each night. The staff was extremely friendly. There are 2 restaurants and both are excellent. I particularly enjoyed the rooftop, outdoor restaurant. The hotel was about a 20 minute walk from my work meetings each day, which were near the Intercontinental hotel. The walk seemed safe and was east to do. All in all, a perfect hotel for this work trip and a truly exceptional hotel in the Marriott brand.

Awesome hotel. Staff was amazing, very helpful and courteous. Reasonable priced and located in a area central to numerous events and hot spots.

Last min booking. The concierge staffs are very nice! First impression of walking in, it’s very clean! Their soaps are all Aesop and they include robes. We did have to call to ask for dental kits though!

They have a rooftop to grab drinks and food if you’d like. View is still pretty nice up there!

Valet: expensive, so book an Uber to get there!

Our time at the Proper LA was phenomenal. Great staff, great activities, great premises, great service, great views!

Our deluxe queen view room was TINY, which we knew coming in plus our intention was purely to sleep in the room/not hangout in it so it worked. The decor from the moment you step into the hotel, to the elevators, to the hallways, to your room was all thoughtfully and tastefully put together, cohesive, interesting, and beautiful. It all felt really NICE and interesting.

We dined on the rooftop for dinner, and also spent time in what we called the "hot tub pool" (for how small and warm it was) in the evening and then later these next day we lounged in the shade on the rooftop to take in the view.

Saturday morning they open up their ballroom to guests for a movement and meditation class, which was phenomenal. My boyfriend and I both loved it and had a very powerful experience in the group. I hear on sundays they also have rooftop yoga.

The staff I think are what made the already great stay truly phenomenal. They were so warm and enthusiastic, and you can tell there's a lot of buy-in within their team to the mission of making stays wonderful for guests.

Overall, we will be staying with Proper again!

BTW - We had been deciding between Ace Hotel and Proper and, after finding ourselves accidentally inside the hotel part of Ace Hotel (when we were trying to get to their upstairs bar), we were SO GLAD we chose Proper. There's a definite difference in quality and cleanliness between the two, with Proper coming out on top. This is even apparent in their rooftops, again with Proper coming out on top!

Wonderful oasis in downtown Los Angeles. Super cool eclectic trendy hotel. Superb food. Amazingly helpful, kind staff. Luxurious room with top shelf amenities. Five star stay.

This hotel wasn't just good it was FANTASTIC!

I have traveled the globe extensively. I have stayed in every type of accommodation available and just about every price range imaginable....and I can say w/ certainty that this is some of the BEST and most genuine SERVICE I've received ANYWHERE.

I don't want to give too many spoilers here LOL--but the staff will go above & beyond every day... and they add so many nice, little random touches (like fixing my collar for me as I leave the building LOL)-- that you just feel so incredibly at home there.
The team all seem so sincere-- and like they really enjoy what they're doing and care about each guest.

Location is great if you need downtown access. Rooms are decent to very nice... Can be noisy in the morning--but that's city life.

We'll be back--and it's because of the INCREDIBLE and CONSISTENT service we recv'd day after day!

Excellent downtown location with less than a mile's pleasant walk to the convention center. Very helpful and welcoming employees. About the best food I have had at any hotel restaurant, with healthy selections, delicious, nice presentations.

We had an amazing stay at the LA Proper when in town for business. Immediately the valet team was incredibly friendly and attentive, as were the front desk staff. We never had to open a door for ourselves, and they all had great suggestions about the area. We were also very grateful for the upgrade to a 14th floor room thanks to our Bonvoy status. The room was large, airy, and incredibly clean. The rooftop space can't be beat. They have one of the best views - if we were able, we would have stayed there all day. The restaurants were great. We can't wait to return!

Our stay was a whole experience and it truly went beyond what we were expecting from a hotel. We love to go and explore restaurants and bars away from our stay but at the Proper, we didn't have to go far at all. The rooftop bar has such a great vibe, excellent drinks and the best panoramic view of the city. My husband and I arrived a day before our group and we went up to check it out and grab a drink before bed. Upon arrival, I just knew I had to make a reservation for our entire group for the following night. Everyone loved it, as expected. The whole place is a work of art and the wonderful staff was the cherry on top.
We will be returning for sure!

I loved the aesthetic of the Proper Hotel in DTLA. The front desk staff and staff at Caldo Verde were all very lovely people. The room and bathroom were both very clean.

Gorgeous hotel, amazing staff, delicious food and drinks. The gym, rooftop and brunch in particular stood out.

This was one of the most spectacular hotels I have literally ever stayed at in my life. I was greeted at the door with my hotel key after having left bags at the checkout counter so I could go about touring the city while I waited for our room to be ready. When I returned from touring, the door was opened for me and the doorman handed me my room key telling me that our bags were already in our room and ready to go. It was also my partners birthday, and when we entered the room, we walked in to a complimentary bottle of wine and a beautifully presented dessert with an extremely delightful personalized note just for him. I have never been so blown away and grateful for such incredible service. Personal and alert at ALL times. I can’t wait to stay at this hotel again. The upstairs rooftop bar, and the downstairs restaurant we’re both immaculately clean and the food was top-notch, flavor and presentation. The dinner was phenomenal, and I have never had such a gorgeous avocado toast breakfast in my life. Amber and three other gentleman at the front desk helped us throughout our stay, and she was so helpful and attentive to our tourist-y needs, with all kinds of amazing recommendations for fun things to do in the city, and exactly how to get there. I wish I was better with names because our server at the restaurant was just the sweetest, and the entire restaurant and hotel was full of this-fabulous service focused on giving an amazing experience. I am beyond grateful for everything this hotel did for us, and I can’t wait to be back again.
