El Taco Buchon

I have a thing for ordering big dishes without realizing it's big and I got these carne asada fries that were so good. Guacamole was a good acidic, and the carne asada was tender. Very big plate for 11 dollars, couldn't finish! Would recommend :)

First time here and it was great. The gobernador tacos are delicious. My boys had the pollo quesadilla and the shrimp fries. My opinion, the fries were missing some lettuce or pico de gallo to make them taste better. The birria taco was delicious and the lemonade was refreshing. Will definitely recommend it and will go back again.

I wish I would of took pictures of the Marlin fish Tacos 🌮🌮 but I was hungry and surprised that anyone around this area sold Marlin tacos. They were a 9 of 10 but a 9 is still delicious. I'm going back for Tacos Governador

Do you like salsas?

I mean, do you REALLY like salsas? If so, then you've found your spot. Salsa verde. Salsa roja. Salsa negra. Salsa cruda. Chipotle salsa. Guacasalsa. All of these and more are available at El Taco Buchon, the most salsa-obsessed taqueria I've ever stepped foot in. All of the tacos here come pre-sauced by the kitchen with AT LEAST one salsa. Some also include a small cup of salsa on the side. Also, there are six distinct salsa available at their salsa bar in addition to every other condiment or garnish you can think of for your tacos.

The tacos themselves are pretty good too. You should start, as I did, with the "Taco Dorado Gobernador," which features shrimp and mozzarella cheese stuffed into a tortilla that is then deep-fried, the cheese melting to become stretchy and gooey, all cooled by shredded cabbage and a creamy salsa they call "ranchero dressing" that is heavy in smoky chipotle flavor. That this taco is buried under cabbage and tomatoes gives it a similar feel to the famous shrimp tacos at "Mariscos Jalisco" in Boyle Heights, but... saucier. If you didn't have enough stuff on this taco, you can add some of the fiery salsa de aciete (oil and chile salsa) that comes alongside it. This was my favorite of the tacos I tried here.

El Taco Buchon's "Carnitas Vampiro" is pretty good too. Here, the shredded fried pork is paired with a mild white cheese that is melted onto a griddled corn tortilla before being smothered in avocado sauce. The carnitas resembles cat food in appearance but tastes alright. Pico de gallo is sprinkled on top. Unlike what I typically think of vampiros, this one is not so crispy that it can't be folded over and enjoyed almost like you would a slice of New York-style pizza. I like that a grilled chile guera is provided on the side.

Lastly, I tried the eponymous "Buchon Taco," which comes with well-browned carne asada, spicy marinated red onions, a tangy "guacasalsa," and shredded cabbage in a flour tortilla. By itself, it was about an average taco as L.A. goes, but when I added the thick salsa roja from the salsa bar, it get much better. The salsa roja reminded me of the tomato-y, bouillon-y Salvadorian-style salsa that one would use with a pupusa. It's very good and does wonders for what is otherwise a very straightforward carne asada taco.

Overall, I liked this place more than I thought I would. It's a modern taco shop run by young people who are excited about the food they're serving. While there are some minor flaws with execution of some of the tacos I tried, the enthusiasm, cleanliness, and courtesy that pervades this operation overcome all of them and make this taqueria worth a visit.

Surpassed my expectations. First time trying out this place. The tacos are pretty good size and filling. So good. Will come back when I'm in the area. Burrito was pretty good too.

Food looks exactly like the picture. I was a little worry about the taste but I got surprised... Very good quality. Keep up the good quality of food. Definitely getting my business again.

Great customer service. I had fish and shrimp Tacos... Which they were delicious but the fish isn't big enough and they only put one shrimp, which was disappointment but besides that it was delicious

Great place to go! The food was delicious! I like how their menus represent exactly what the food looks like. This is a hidden gem as I've driven by it so many times and didn't know it was there. The staff is very friendly. I got my order to go and everything was packed with care. The wait wasn't long at all. I will be going back! Delicious and flavorval! Try their specially beverages on a hot summer's day! Cucumber is best!
