One of the best and most diverse hiking areas in Ventura and L.A. counties, this vast open space contains a large network of trails, from beginner to advanced, lots of rocks to climb and caves to explore, and many spectacular views.

The main fire road trail is steep but manageable, and takes you to several benches offering views of both Simi and San Fernando Valley, and the further you go, the better the views get.

If you're adventurous enough, you can go all the way up to the real Rocky Peak, which sits right on the Ventura and L.A. County line, and has the best views- on a clear day, you can see the ocean. The trails also tend to dry quickly after rain.

Dog and mountain bike friendly. Make sure to bring lots of water, as shade isn't abundant. Also be aware that snakes are common and mountain lions have been spotted here regularly.

Beautiful hiking trail.very easy, well maintained, a lot trails, and gorgeous rocks formations. To reach the peak is just 2.60miles so 5 miles around trip maybe a little more, I stop a lot getting out of the trail try to explore , the cave, and the tutle rock also a big rock with the heart shape. Very nice views..I really enjoyed this hiking , definitely I come back. There is not graffiti except in the caves, please🙏 people don't write your %$#@ name on the rocks, keep it clean. There is not that much parking there is another parking lot big but you ve to walk a lot...

Lots of different trails you can take, the path to the slight right when you get there is moderately difficult. If you hike regularly it's not too hard at all. Dog friendly. Keep in mind that many hikers have their dogs off leash (you're not supposed to). You get views of both the San Fernando Valley as well as Simi Valley. Not much shade although there are boulders large enough to shade you. It's just not a foresty place. More desert like. Anyways. I love it to bits.

Try to go on a clear day! You can see every city in the valley as well as the other side of simi valley. Hike starts off with some incline but doable. After its flat with some decline. Honestly try and scale the mountain you see from a distance! The view is insane. Bring alot of water. I believe thats the highest peak after making it to the top. I recommend checking out the 2 caves they have. One of them is a tight squeeze btw. Also check out my other hiking reviews around the valley! I

Beautiful hiking trail. The hike up to the peak is 2.5 miles. That might not seem like a lot, but considering the steepness of the path, it is a lot. If you don't know how long that is, I would recommend installing the Under Armour App for walking to track your walk progress. Round trip is 5 miles, and it might take you 3 hours or less depending on your fitness.
I went with my 50 year old dad and he kept stopping, hence the three hours. I probably could have done it in 2 hours or 2.5.
There is phone connection for maybe like the first half of the hike. Then it comes back at the peak. If you like listening to music, maybe download some songs before you go.

Other tips?
1)Wear sunscreen. Maybe throw on a hat.

2)Watch out for bicyclist. Always move for them. It's not a rule, but just be considerate.

3) If you're on the older side, maybe consider buying a hiking stick. Sometimes the steepness can be difficult to climb or even go down. Even I lose my balance sometimes. Or sometimes, as you're going down, your feet my skid down the gravel and you could lose balance. Consider the stick.

4) Wear shoes with a good grip. I rolled my eyes at this at first, but I realized quickly to not underestimate it.

5) After it rains, some parts of the trail are muddy. Wear shoes that you can afford to get dirty.

6) Dress appropriately.

I took Chumash Trail. Great hike. Beautiful views of Simi Valley. Amazing sunset. Moderate level, 5.6 mile round trip. Free parking however, they close the park gates about half an hour after the sunset.

This is a great trail that overlooks Simi Valley. It's a steep one, so come prepared to lose your breath. Very beautiful with lots of people, so I always feel safe.

Excellent place to go hiking, has great elevations to get a really good workout, and has very good views. Feels amazing and productive everytime after I hike there. It has trails of all levels, from not too hard ones to a decent ones. Never gets too crowded like it usually does in other Los Angeles hiking destinations.

Pleasant (if steep) hiking trails leading to some amazing views, and it's a surprisingly painless drive up the freeways on weekends. Make sure to check the weather; it can swing from hot and bone dry to humid and windy very quick.

Went for an easy day hike with some friends, it's not very difficult to find the trail head but there's only a handful of parking spots there. Overflow parking is across the freeway which makes backing in or out a whole new kind of adventure. Gravel and dust will get kicked up on your car just FYI

It's the high desert so the plant life withers over the summer and then pops up whenever there's some rain. The trail was flattened and smoothed fairly recently so the only difficult part is the elevation changes. There's a few forks that lead off to their own overlooks, but it'd be hard to get lost unless you walked off the trail.

Late September everything was blooming and there was a light fog as clouds blew over the hills to rain on the Valley. Brought a jacket and was happy to have it once we reached the top and stopped moving around so much.

I went in July, when it was hot and dry, but this park is beautiful, with some great hikes. Do be prepared for steep climbs though.

Amazing hike to the top! Just difficult enough to get a good workout. The terrain is very uneven in some areas so probably not great for hiking with small children or even little dogs. You can see for miles at various points on the way to the top. It usually takes me about 1.5-2 hour round trip (about 5 miles). Park right off the freeway on either side and the trail is right there!
