Always a go to place for my sweet cravings. Amazing frozen food section. Best cheap bakery options. Lot of gluten free things available. Has a pharmacy counter too.

I live on the Westside of Santa Cruz and been going to this Safeway regularly for 17 years. I needed to use western Union (first time ever) yesterday for my son who just moved out of the nest last year out of the area, far away. He is responsible, never gets in trouble, a good kid. My bank had to be shut down for all online access for 4 days, this weekend, including the holiday to transition to the new _______ banking. I usually use online apps to send money and the receiver would get it instantly. One of his roommates moved out and new renter last minute flaked. They were all stuck with an extra pmt due by 9/1. 2 days notice on a holiday weekend!
I went to Safeway on mission and had to bring cash (other WU’s let you use debit or credit, another inconvenience) and Teresa helped me at customer service. She was very efficient and nice. She said my son could get the money from minutes to an hour in his bank. I said ok. Went home called my son. We waited and waited. Nothing for two hours. Now it was 7:15, they close western Union service at 8pm. I called them and they said it’s in route to the bank. It would take 2 days and there was nothing they can do. I was livid, he needed this money TODAY!! I drove down there again. Thank goodness Teresa was still there. I spoke to another worker and Teresa overheard the story and came right over. Two workers were working together on this now. Both were surprised and never heard of this. They called western Union and said “this is unacceptable, let me speak to a supervisor, this is an emergency, this is what you’re going to do,” telling the agent. I thought I was the Mama Bear from hell when something happens to my kid but she was the mama bear! Right before my eyes I was witnessing a super hero in action. She was professional but fierce. She managed to cancel the transaction and re-send it so he can receive it in cash.
I was in retail for over 7 years and I know what it’s like. Never in my life had I experienced that level of amazing customer service! I am forever grateful for her speedy resolution. I am full of awe. That would make a great movie scene. All throughout this she was handling customer’s problems and quick transactions. It was like she had 12 hands. Don’t ever let her go unless you promote her to corporate management. She deserves a promotion.
Even though this Safeway is busy with lots of students and not always have enough checkers, I will never forget this. Thank you thank you thank you Teresa.

Wow what a supermarket the choice of foods is amazing and twice the size than in the uk

Spacious, clean and usually well stocked. Cashiers are friendly and efficient. Perks- look for the “Oops we baked too much” display shelf hidden towards the corner at the end of the bread section. They offer various baked goods- cookies, muffins,pies, strudels and bundt cakes for half price. And no, they aren’t stale,actually fresh. Downsides- I wish they were still open24 hours and it sucks to be there around 9-10 pm on nights when a bus load of college kids are stocking up and they only have one cashier!! But fortunately that’s the only time you’ll see long lines. Between the cashiers and the self serve kiosks you can get in and out pretty fast. Good job Safeway!

Except for the unfriendly cashier and the cat food aisle not having our favorite brand, everything seemed great today

i really love signing up for delivery service. The manager at Mission St store is so helpful she fixes any issues. It saves me money in discounts and in Uber rides, well worth the cost to join.

The Manager, Brenda, was super helpful, friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I will come here every time just to experience her absolute perfect customer service! Best Safeway manager I have ever encountered!

Folks love to criticize Safeway, but this is an excellent store, and a huge asset to the neighborhood. It's clean, well-stocked, has reasonable prices, and includes pharmacy, deli, and Starbucks, not to mention the butcher, bakery, and florist departments. Good produce too. Feel free to spend twice as much down the street, I like that store too and it's great that we have the choice.

Safeway is my local shopping center. I love Safeway. I always have all across the country than the many others. This safe way in Santa Cruz is awesome. Scott valley and been woman or felon to California is actually the one of the best to go

The staff here is really kind and caring. Tammy is amazing, as well as other staff members that have gone above and beyond to help me. Great customer service!

We ducked in here for some healthy eats early in the morning on a road trip. The fruit was fresh and tasty and service was quick!

In my opinion, this Safeway is the best one in the county. It is very clean and well supplied. The produce is always fresh. The lines are never as long here and the self check out is rarely crowded. The people shopping here a much more mellow than the other Safeways. I think because there is not a parking problem and checkout runs much more smoothly.

This Safeway is BIG they have a great deli and a bakery seafood butchers are really helpful and funny a large selection of fruit and veggies.organic or regular you choose beautiful flowers and 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈 balloons and a Starbucks a large selection of wine and 🍺 beer liquor .and the cashiers aren't to bad lol. I've been shopping at this store for 48 yrs.

Love it. Wish it were in Soquel/Capitola. Fantastic selection and service. Great parking and lot. Cool weird eclectic stuff too in the aisles (Probably because UCSC).

5 stars cus of mary the checker, she is so sweet every time i go in, i literally get excited to go to safeway just to see her, i love her skirt! rod/rob? the bagger is also so funny and nice, and i forgot the security guard’s name but he wears this sick spyder sweater and is also so so cool, truly the coolest greatest people, i love coming to this safeway i always have a wonderful time

I went in today to get myself a sandwich and other goodies. The young guy who made my sandwich and got me the chicken drumsticks and macaroni was so nice. That's the type of people I like seeing working he had a smile and ready to help me. He definitely deserves a shout out even a raise. I would definitely go back.

Friendly checker, light lines, all I wanted was in stock, speedy was shopping tonight!

What can I say. It's Safeway. Bathrooms are a guess, service is consistently fast. Self checkout is the way to go. If you have a lot of items, wait for the huge self checkout machine it's so much easier.

It's now my place of employment. I'm in the Beer,Wine, and liquor dept. So far it's a good company to work for. They're hiring if your looking.
