Sonoma Overlook Trail

We did the hike to the upper overlook loop. It was about 40 minutes to get there with a pretty gentle incline. Great views on top! We went on a Sunday and it was not busy.

Awesome trail, which can be steep in some places, good workout and amazing view when you reach the top. Also bench on top have a memoir for visitors so leave a note for your future self or kids when they visit.

Amazing trail! While it is mostly shaded you’ll be exposed to the sun once you reach the top but it will be worth it. You’ll see vineyards, mountains and the city. There is a tad of elevation but nothing crazy. Nice fragrant flowers along the way and there’s parking.

Great hike very close to City of Sonoma plaza

A great hike! Has a small lot at the base of the trail and a bunch of connecting trails. A decent incline, we’ll maintained trail and stunning views! If you have about an hour to spend and want to hike, this is the place!

Great little trail that branches into a few different options. The views were beautiful, trails well maintained, and they weren't crowded at all! If you're staying in town and need a dose of nature, this is a nice option that's very close.

Amazing view from the top! For those that didn’t make it to the top (and agree it can be hot in summer or slippery in rain), you missed the jewel at the end! Pro-tip, you can extend the hike as it connects with Monitini Preserve across Norrbom Road and makes a nice circuit with the bike path.

A nice hike, pretty easy but there's an incline. View is nice and you can see SF from the top in nice weather. As of March 2019 a pert of the trail is closed and there's a path that overpasses the closed bit. Look for the sign with the map for more info.

Gentle trail to a pretty meadow near the top of the hill. Lovely views of Sonoma. A variety of habitats will bring lots of spring wildflowers.

Great hike. Fantastic view from the top. Bring water as it gets pretty warm during the afternoon.

Walk this trail 2-3 times per week. Wonderful hike. About 4-5,000 steps for me. Love seeing wildlife in the mornings.

Beautiful short trail that is up hill most of the way. The trail from the parking area/kiosk is closed, so you have to walk through the cemetery to get to the other trailhead. Park in the same spot and follow the signs!

It was a great hike! Wear sturdy shoes and stay on the trail. The view from the top is absolutely beautiful.

The Sonoma Overlook Trail is a great trail to hike and get a great view of the town of Sonoma. The surrounding landscape view is great and the entire loop trail up and back to the parking area is about two miles total. There are also a few other trails that connect to the loop trail for those that wish to hike longer.

Great hiking spot with lots of small trails. This one is beginner level because there aren't any spots that are too steep or too long. There's always a turn, rest spot or some shade nearby. The scenery is very pretty with lots of trees and tall views. The trail itself is pretty easy to walk without many obstacles but a few rocks here and there. There's always a clear path and lots of signs to point you in the right direction. You can't get lost here.

A nice easy hiking trail with views of Sonoma.

The actual trail starts from the dunes and by the end, you will reach the state park. The trail is lengthy, but if we could complete it with flying colours, that means anybody can do it. The overlook is awesome, and the view is enhanced with a lot of beautiful submerged rocks in the ocean. There are arch shaped ones, and some are like South American pyramids. Dogs are allowed, and so do the horses.

Fairly easy hike with a small loop at the top. Some of the trail is shaded but the majority of the trail is not so wear a hat and sunscreen. There are a couple of benches in the trail and you're rewarded with a nice view of Sonoma and San Francisco on the far end on your left. I spotted a gray squirrel, wild turkey and a turkey vulture along my hike. Be careful with the poison oak.

Reasonably short but rocky hike. Lots of wildlife. Deer were pretty close to the trail in midmorning and very many lizards sunning on the trail. Overlook loop at the top is nice. Parking is limited on site but other options farther outside of the cemetery.
