On February 15, 2017, I contacted Weber Insurance Agency, an affiliate of Erie Indemnity Co., Erie, Pa, concerning an insurance quote on a new home. After looking at houses for about a year, my wife and I had finally put an offer in on a house and the offer was accepted. We were beyond thrilled, and worked diligently with our agent for a march 16th closing.
I received a quote on the new house and submitted all materials to our loan and closing companies.

On the afternoon of Monday, March 13, I received notification from my loan and closing companies to review all documentation for my closing. By law, these materials need to be reviewed three days prior to the actual closing. Around this same time, I received a devastating call from Weber Insurance. They informed me that the employee who handled my insurance and the quote on the new house was no longer working for the agency and that they had just gotten around to reviewing the information that this employee provided me with. They informed me that they would not insure the new house, due to the fact that part of the roof in the back of the house is flat. Weber Insurance dropped this news on us nearly one month after we contacted them for a quote, and less than ten hours before review of the final paperwork was due to the closing company. Thus, they left me in a dire predicament—I had less than ten hours to find a new insurance company, or I would risk losing the new house.

I am absolutely livid that Weber Insurance would do this to me and my wife. I have been with Erie Insurance since I was 16, and with the Weber agency since 2011. Since signing with Weber in 2011, I have never filed a claim. Fortunately, I was able to find a new insurance agent prior to the document review deadline, and will be able to move forward with the closing on the new house. However, the Weber agency put us in a very difficult and stressful position. I would be perfectly fine with them dropping us, had they done so a few weeks ago. Or even better, if they had been upfront when I requested the quote on February 15, 2017. By waiting until Monday, March 13, however, they treated a long-time client horribly, and showed a lack of management within their own office.

Weber agency apologized to us for what they call an “unfortunate situation.” They claim the following: “We truly do pride ourselves for our customer service and do value you as a customer. We addressed the situation as soon as it was brought to our attention and are very sorry that we were not able to find a solution. We do not believe this is representative of the service we provide and again we apologize.”

They addressed the situation nearly a month afterwards, and did nothing to help us find a solution. And after all of this, they still believe that we will continue using their company for our car and jewelry insurance policies.
